CASINO is the Best Gangster film ever made

Advantages: Makes you glad YOU didn't live there then!

...Bought this on video (but now have it on DVD) when it first came out (in the early 90's) because I have always thought Scorcese is a great director and de Niro a marvellous actor and ever since I periodically watch it. In my opinion this is the BEST gangster film ever made and it's based on the truth. There again, Scorcese is the BEST Director of this film genre. 'GOODFELLAS' is another great film directed by him, based also on a true story - actually when I lived in the USA part of what is in the last part of this film was taking place, so it is true! Robert de Niro & Joe Pesci are ideally paired and the film comes alive with their dialogue, particularly when they remember 'back home, years ago'. Scorcese's use of contemporary music is outstanding particularly when the action is suspended as a 'still' and appropriate...

Advantages: Tense, fast paced, engaging action
Disadvantages: Poker scenes may bore some

Plays Your Bets - Casino

Advantages: Entertaining
Disadvantages: Very violent

...I watched this film the other evening, it's hard to believe that this film is 13 years old! As with the majority of Martin Scorsese films its got a gripping storyline with lots of twists and turns. The main characters in this film are Robert DeNero who plays Sam 'Ace' Rothstein a gambling guru, Joe Pesci who plays Nicky Santoro a very nasty mobster who gets great pleasure in killing people (the cheese certainly fell off his cracker!) and a very young looking Sharon Stone who plays Ginger McKenna the love interest of 'Ace'. It's not quite as gripping as some of the Scorsese films (although gripping nonetheless), but very watchable (however stay clear of this if you have a delicate constitution - its very violent with a capital V). ...The main figure James Bond; Daniel Craig (already known for action films Tomb Raider' (2001, Simon West) and Layer Cake' (2004, Matthew Vaughn) and the future creations His Dark Materials' (2007, Chris Weitz) which I am really looking forward to, is represented throughout the film as an inimitable agent. MANILA PAVILION - A Place for Casino Lovers

Advantages: It has a Casino and also near Manila attractions
Disadvantages: The location is not very nice

...A lot of people, mostly foreign tourists, flock to the Manila Pavilion because of the Casino (there are only two casinos in Metro Manila) but other than that, I do not find the hotel to be outstanding. There are always a lot of people in the lobby, thus, making it feel a bit crowded. It could use more elegance in its design and decorations especially for the lobby. However, it has such a homey atmosphere and won?t make one feel intimidated. My family and I stayed at Manila Pavilion one weekend but we may not be back in the near future. It?s not that we don?t like the hotel but I think I?d rather try other accommodations in the area. The rooms are of standard size with the usual amenities - coffee/tea making facilities, bathrobes and slippers, and various toiletries. The staff is okay although they offer nothing out of the ordinary...

Casino Royale - Take a gamble it's worth it!

...When the ?new? Bond was announced back in 2005 I wasn?t overly impressed. It wasn?t that I didn?t rate Daniel Craig as an actor, I thought he was great in Layer Cake and thoroughly enjoyed that film and yeah he was a sexy man, but James Bond can?t be blond! It just didn?t sit right with me, but that?s personal preference I guess and the fact that all the other Bonds I had seen had been brunette/black, so I didn?t know anything else. I therefore couldn?t get very enthusiastic when Casino Royale hit the big screen and I wasn?t one of the first in the queue to go and see it (not even the Orange Wednesdays offer could get me there). Instead I waited for the DVD and eventually watched it one evening when I had nothing much else to do. Casino Royale ? Casino - great Vegas of the 70's insight

Advantages: Cracking cast and well acted
Disadvantages: It is violent, and at nearly 3 hours long some will find it too much

...Casino is a long and bloody look at what the gambling epicentre of the world, Las Vegas, was like before the big corporations took over all of the casinos, back in the day where any self-respecting organized crime family could have their fingers well and truly in the many pies offered in Nevada. De Niro is never disappointing, and Sharon Stone plays her part as a cokehead whore worryingly well. Pesci is also great and the voiceovers by the two male lead characters really make the film. Even though it is 171 minutes long, it is so good that it prevents even the most ardent of clockwatchers from wishing away the hours....
