Review of Belkin Cassette Adapter

Advantages: Allows you to listen to your mp3 player in your car
Disadvantages: Very Poor Quality Of Sound!

...I wanted to be able to listen to my iPod during car journeys and this adapter seemed the perfect job. Its slick white style compliments the iPod very well, and looks perfect. My friend had bought the very same product to use in her car, and the sound quality was very good! She bought it for £20 in an airport, so when I saw it on Amazon for just £5.00 I just had to buy it... however... The sound quality is unbearable in my car! The continual electrical buzz over the music, and the rattling of the cogs inside the cassette is dreadful. And any slight movement to my iPod produces a terrible loud crackle over the music. When i decided it was too bad to listen to, the darn thing wouldn't eject from my cassette player. Argh! For me though, I have so many cassettes that converting them to a digital format is impractical, and buying CD copies or paying to download them, too expensive. MP3's through a cassette player in your car

Advantages: Cheap and it easy to use
Disadvantages: A little tempremental

...After my girl friend got the back of her car smashed in to by some stupid guy she had to change cars. Luckily she got a car for free from a friend of her family, unluckily this car is about 15 years old lol. We both have MP3 players and love to listen to music when we drive but this new car only had a cassette player so we were both a bit disappointed. Sony TCM-200DV Dictaphone

Advantages: Takes regular sized audio cassettes, double-time recording, inexpensive model
Disadvantages: Needs to be used close to sound-source, a bit bulky for some tastes

...I always wanted a dictaphone as a child. Largely, I admit, for slightly dubious reasons (i.e. I wanted to plant it in my big sister's bedroom and find out if she was talking about me.) Many years on, as a student, I finally received one as a birthday gift so that I could record important lectures. This certainly did come in handy during those classes that, however hard I tried to stay alert, had me head down and drooling on the desk within minutes. The Sony TCM-200DV Cassette-Corder (or 'dictaphone' to you and me) is a fairly basic model compared to some products on the market - but it does what it says on the tin and it does it to a perfectly acceptable standard. The machine is silver (with a charcoal grey back panel and battery compartment) and weighs in at 171g - it's roughly the same size as a cassette-playing personal stereo...

Who Remembers Good Old Cassettes???

Advantages: Very Strong
Disadvantages: Battery Life

...I have just been deciding what toy's are for the local charity shop and come across the Fisher Price Cassette player and showed it to my 3 year old he is busy playing with it now as I write. It originally belonged to my eldest who is now 13 and I bought it a good 7 years ago now but still as good as the day I bought it. I remember when my eldest was asking for this when we were out one day and I said lets see what Father Christmas brought him and of course it was the Cassette player. He used to love it recording and changing his voice and singing along to his favorite tapes. I know CD's are the way forward but for children they are not ideal tapes are much more sturdy. His favorite and now my 3 year olds favorite is the Robot voice changer really get's them in fits of giggles I have a giggling 3 year old in the corner at the moment...

Laptop the size of a VHS cassette

The Libretto is about the size of a VHS video cassette, this very small size makes working on a plane actually possible even in 'economy' class! A cheap and cheerful solution lacking in quality

Advantages: An easy and very cheap solution
Disadvantages: Poor quality, poor sound quality, dated technology

...Since all of my music is now in MP3 format and contained on my I-Pod I wanted to be able to listen to my I-Pod in my car through the car speakers and not through headphones. There are fully integrated package solutions available, such as the Denison Ice, but these are very expensive to buy and require specialist installation adding to the expense. I also noted that this solution is permanent and does not allow it to be changed between cars, this in my opinion, is a major disadvantage. I remembered the in-car solutions for personal CD players that consisted of a cradle to hold the CD player, often made out of a bit of flexi steel with a platform on top of it and Velcro stuck to that. The Very DAB

Advantages: Inexpensive, decent output for a bedroom or smaller room, mp3 capability
Disadvantages: No good for a larger room due to the 5 watt output per speaker

Disadvantages: the 'interactive' dialogues are useless, and waste precious minutes

I think the phrase book and cassette complement each other well, as you can learn the basics at home and then take the book with you for a top-up while away, or to learn extra vocab you may need (if you need the phrase 'where can I find an English speaking Rabbi with a temple in a fortress' for example). The transcripts of the cassette dialogues are a definite bonus, and I like the sensible way the tape teaches you things you actually need to be able to say when holidaying abroad, unlike Mr Michael Thomas.
