Ludlow Castle
Advantages: Delightful castle in a delightful town
Disadvantages: None
...Ludlow Castle has a history stretching back to the 11th Century when work first began on it. It was considerably enlarged in the 14 Century and was the site of a skirmish in the Wars of the Roses a hundred years later. It was also a home for Edward IV’s sons who later became ‘The Princes In The Tower’ as well as Prince Arthur (Henry VIII’s brother) and Queen Mary Tudor spent some years here. This then is a Castle with a lot of history. So what is it like?
It remains not as a complete ruin and many of the features built over the ages remain almost in tact and certainly recognisable. There is the basic but classic Norman structure enhanced by additions of Medieval and Tudor origin. There is a moat with a bridge to cross to get into the inner area and the Keep. It would be particularly useful for any school...

How Deer Is Your Castle?
Advantages: Beautiful house and grounds
Disadvantages: Very limited access to those with disabilities.
...Wherever I go in the country I always have to pop out and take a trip to the nearest castle, Pierrefonds in France (Quite the most beautiful place I have ever seen, if you've never seen it, do web search for it), Corfe Castle and Dawlish just wasn't an exception!
The closest place to our camp is Powderham Castle, a mere 10 minutes drive away.
The Castle was first built in 1391 by Sir Philip Courtenay and its been the ancestral home ever since, indeed the Earl of Devon and his family still live in the Castle.
Of course nothings free these days so its the admission hut first! It going to set you back £7.20 as an adult, £4.10 if you're under 17 and nowt if you're under 5. Rather helpfully you can get a family ticket which costs £19.90. This is for 2 adults and 2 children or what a lot of places should take up, 1 adult and 3 children...

The Outer Bailey, not the Old Bailey
Advantages: A good family day out
Disadvantages: You need a dry day
...Ludlow Castle.
Gosh it is nearly May and I am still doing my best to keep up with the new me and my new years resolutions; which in brief was to have more family time and get myself better. Well it?s the last Saturday in April and I am still keeping up the good work, we are having a family outing to Ludlow Castle which is only approx 45mins from our home; my youngest daughter has decided to joins us and with the walk around the lovely town of Ludlow and the Castle we headed for some fun and exercise.
After a lovely week of sunshine we woke up on the Saturday morning to heavy rain, but undeterred we still set off for our day out, someone must have been smiling down on us as half way to Ludlow the sun came back out and stayed with us for the duration of our visit. I have to also note this wonderful day as the first day...

The King of Castles
Advantages: One of the most impressive historical buildings I have ever seen
Disadvantages: The fact that its not more widely known
...and whole books could easily be wrote about it. The castle was founded in 1177 by the Norman knight John De Courcy. De Courcy was later ousted by Hugh de Lacy also a Norman knight who completed the initial building of the castle. Over the 800 hundred years it has been besieged by the Scots, English and the French. Throughout the 800 years the castle has remained an important military structure and was last commissioned by the British Army who used it as an armoury during the Second World War.
During its impressive history it was only once occupied by a reigning monarch. King John of England (Robin Hood's enemy) who captured the castle in 1210 and I believe he stayed in the Castle for a week or so before moving on. There is a live size statue of King John in the castle using the toilet. Presumably that's were the phrase going to the John may...

A CASTLE OF DREAMS
Advantages: Outstandingly Beautiful and Romantic Setting. Interesting History. A Great day Out.
Disadvantages: Difficult to Find - Otherwise None!
...matters, plus many toys and souvenirs. As has previously been the case with the National Trust, when compared to English Heritage shops, I find this one to be rather expensive. We only actually left with a Bodiam Castle guide book, not cheap itself at £4.50.
This really is an enchanting, enchanted even, place to come and see at any time of the year. When my, then, Polish fiancée came to England for the very first time, on holiday, this was the very first historical venue that she visited here. That was on a baking hot Sunday in May, even the large number of visitors on that occasion were not enough to dampen our enthusiasm for Bodiam Castle. We have been back on busy summer days since, but at this time of the year, late winter / early spring - well off-season, the place has even more attraction I think.
BODIAM CASTLE is located in...

King Of The Castles
Advantages: Beautiful grounds, lots to see outside, a very popular 'must go to' tourist attraction
Disadvantages: Can get extremely busy, expensive tickets (dungeon is additional)
...Warwick Castle was on my list of touristy things to do when I stayed overnight in a hotel in Stratford this year. Located in Warwick, the castle is probably Warwickshire's biggest, most popular, and most expensive, attraction. At around £20 per adult ticket it's not cheap, but as a one-off visit it's definitely somewhere noteworthy to say you've been and depending on the weather the day you go, could prove to be a day-long visit.
There are several ways and places to pay for your ticket, though buying in advance online if possible is probably the cheapest method unless you have an alternative discount voucher. On the day, ticket prices are as follows:
Adult £19.95
Senior £11.95
Student £14.95
Child (4-16) £10
Disabled or carer £8.95
Family £48.00
Entry can also be redeemed via a Merlin pass, Tesco clubcard vouchers...

Who's castle?
Advantages: Funny and entertaining
Disadvantages: They never win which is very frustrating
...Takeshi's castle is a Japanese game show which is very similar to Total Wipeout although it's very dated. The show starts out with 100 contestants who battle it out by running assault courses and participating in different challenges before faces the final challenge and being in with a chance of winning one million yen.
The show is ridiculously hard and it does make the watcher wonder if they don't actually have the prize funds at the end.
My favourite challenge throughout the show is where the contestant has to run through doors but some of the doors are glued shut so if they choose the wrong one then they end up crashing into it.
Craig Charles narrates the UK version of the show and I have to say that he is very funny with some of the things he comes out with. He adds a whole new level to it and makes it all the more fun to...

Prague Castle
Advantages: Great view
Disadvantages: Waste of money
...As some of you will know from my other review I visited Prague recently. I didn't include Prague Castle in that review because it seemed like the review was already really long but as it is one of the main attractions.
This review is going to be really mixed because there is so much to Prague castle. It's really like going to a little village because there is so much to the castle and the area around it and if you want to see it all then you'll need to spend the entire day there.
-Tickets-
I bought a Prague Card and got the short tour free on that but if you don't have a prague card the prices are:
Short Tour- 250 crowns (£9.22)
Long Tour-350 Crowns (£12.90)
You can also pay to get into individual attractions and discounts are available, as well as family tickets.
(Please not that the currency in Prague is changing so...

The most haunted castle in Britain
Advantages: Beautiful castle and grounds
Disadvantages: None
...Living in the North East, I am fortunate enough to be able to visit some of the beautiful castles of Northumberland without having a long journey to reach them.
One of the places I visited again a couple of months ago was Chillingham Castle.
This remarkable castle with its alarming dungeons and torture chambers has, since the twelve-hundreds, been continuously owned by the same family line. It is the home of Sir Humphry Wakefield Bt., his wife The Hon. Lady Wakefield and their family.
It was a 12th century stronghold, and became a fully fortified castle in 1344.
It occupied a strategic position as a fortress during Northumberland's border feuds. It was often besieged and also had many royal visitors. In the Tudor times there were additions, but the underlying Mediaeval character has always been retained.
The 18th and 19th centuries have...

~ Caldicot Castle - Feast fit for a King ~
Advantages: Excellent food, Great sites, Good history, Nice staff
Disadvantages: none - apart from the one guy see review
...~ Feast fit for a King ~
Following my last review, last weekend was as you know my Nan?s birthday. As 70 is a special number she planned her birthday for the family to have a medieval weekend in Caldicot. She has been planning this for over a year so I know it was going to be a brilliant evening. The main part of her birthday was to go to Caldicot Castle for a banquet. We all had medieval outfits where some were not as pleased to wear as others, but I think we all looked great. After we arrived at Brooklands Motel we got ready into our outfits and all met on the balcony for a toast.
We then only had a five minute walk down the road to the castle, which the locals driving past thought was interesting. Twenty two people walking down the main road in Medieval gear. The men?s outfits were brilliant and we had a large mixture...
