FastCAT5e Networking Cable
Review of Belkin FastCAT network cable - 10 m by
kelr101
Advantages: Quick Installation, Colour co-oridinated, Fast Speeds
Disadvantages: Price Varied
...to a modem, one via a USB (Universal Serial Bus cable that supports data transfers) and one via an Ethernet Cable (Bus cable supporting data transfers). However with the introduction of a new PC, my machine was moved to a different room, hence the requirement of a longer, Networking cable that could support the data transfer requirements and provide flawless data transmission.
Computers that are linked up to a LAN are connected using Cat-5 Cables. Cat-5 is short for Category 5; the definition for network cabling that consists of four twisted pairs of copper wire terminated by RJ45 Connectors (Registered Jack 45 – an 8 wire computer connector). RJ45 Connectors look very similar to the RJ11 connectors used to connect telephone equipment but they are slightly wider/ Standard Category 5 cabling supports frequencies of 100Mhz and speeds up to 1000...

3C905B-COMBO
Review of 3Com 905B Combo 10/100MBit PCI by
space_cadet
Advantages: Reduce TCO
Disadvantages: not really for home use
...3Com's excellent network interface card (NIC)certainly cuts the mustart especially for the desktop. It gives 10Mbps over CAT 3, 4 or 5, and 100Mbps for CAT 5. It has the usual RJ45 and BNC connections for ethernet networks. Installation is a dream especially on plug and play operating systems. For the network management freaks among you it has :-
1) Performance Management
2) Network Management (over switched networks)
3) Remote Wake Up (RWU)
4) Desktop Management capabilities.
Overall the card is extremely reliable and robust.
Advantages: Reduce TCO, Easy installation
Disadvantages: could be too costly for the home user...

Never failed me yet
Review of Intel EtherExpress Pro / 100+ by
QuinnTheEskimo
Advantages: reliable and well supported.
Disadvantages: Runs very warm, only has RJ45 socket
...I run several servers, and this is my network card of choice. Never had a problem with this card under FreeBSD, Linux and Windows, and the card has never had any problems with cheap hubs, like so many 100Mbit network cards seem to have. The card is obviously built to last, and has the three usual status lights, Link, Activity and 100Mbit. Card only has RJ45 Cat5 twisted pair socket, like most other 10/100 cards. Anyone who wants a reliable network, a fast card, a card which is supported well under BSD and other operating systems should buy this....

fast LAN
Review of Belkin patch cable - 2 m by
grimworld
Advantages: fast, allows shared broadband, different lengths, cheap
Disadvantages: none
...I needed to set up a quick and easy LAN network at home so that both my home computer and my laptop could use my broadband internet connection.
You see this cable is a CAT 5E which means that it allows broadband to be shared where as normal CAT 5 cable does not surport broadband only regular internet.
This cable also is a RJ45 (male) cable well actaully its male to male which means that it will fit into most LAN cards and routers. Some LAN cards only use female ends though i havent found one of these yet.
The cable also has a 300 MHZ (some have got 500 MHZ)bandwith which allows quick file sharing among the computers, i havent even noticed any lag one the internet either.
The cable does come in a range of sizes from little 3 ft one to the massive 24 ft one i use at mt home, the cable is rather thick and hard to hide espically since...

Wireless when wire would work
Review of Linksys Wireless-G PCI Card WMP54GS with SpeedBooster by
skuzzle
Advantages: Easy to install, and very reliable
Disadvantages: Large aerial can look unsightly and get in the way.
...I bought one of these cards only a few months ago. I was debating running a cat5 cable from one floor of my house up to the next and through a couple of walls.
Logic suggested to me that using a cable'd method for connection would work out to be the cheaper option, seeing as the technology has been around for quite some time now and wireless technology is still fairly new.
I visited my local reseller of computer and electrical products to be faced with a moral dilemna.
A cat5 cable at the length I required and 1 PCI network adapter worked out to be £5 more than buying the linksys wireless PCI adapter. My router was I knew was already wireless, as they all seem to be these days.
Suddenly it was a decision based on whether I believed wireless could compete with a cable solution.
Well to cut a short story even shorter I opted...

Your secret code should stay a secret code
Review of yoursecertcode.co.uk by
JuzzaNg
Advantages: You can earn points to get free stuff
Disadvantages: A lot of the stuff is not very good
...= 1 recruits
Cat 1 = 2 recruits
Cat 2 = 6 recruits
Cat 3 = 12 recruits
Cat 4 = 16 recruits
Cat 5 = 25 recruits
Cat 6 = 36 recruits
Cat 7 = 60 recruits
This is all very well, but you have to collect a whole lot of recruits to get a high 'Cat':
5 recruits = Cat 1 reward
12 recruits = Cat 2 reward
20 recruits = Cat 3 reward
30 recruits = Cat 4 reward
35 recruits = Cat 5 reward
45 recruits = Cat 6 reward
60 recruits = Cat 7 reward
120 recruits = Super reward
It's really easy to do 'Cat's 0-3, as all you have to do is register with certain websites, subscribe to news letters and spend money with online shops that you already shop with, but to earn recruits from higher 'Cat's, you have to spend a LOT of money, for example, take out a loan, taking out an insurance policy or join a gambling site and deposit £50. Realistically, if you like...

Small network please...
Review of NETGEAR DS104 - hub - 4 ports by
PhillWorboys
Advantages: Small and excelent value for money
Disadvantages: very few if any!
...The Netgear DS104 is a small 4 port hub. Measuring no more than 25cm x 10cm x 3cm is is small enough to fit on any desk.
The hub has 4 auto sensing 10/100 mbit ports, one of which is equiped with an uplink button if you are expanding your network. LED's display power on, collision status on both 10 and 100 networks. Each seperate port has LED's which denote the spedd connection and blink when receiving data. It is powered from an external power supply.
I purchased the hub from action.com and paid £31.99 +VAT. This is a slightly lower price than the normal consumer would pay as we have a business account manager.
I use the hub as an extension to my desktop network connection as I frequently need multiple connections when configuring laptops etc.
The hub does not come with any CAT5 leads so don't forget to order them...

frontline spray
Review of Front Line Spray by
springymuffin
Advantages: kills all fleas
Disadvantages: the fumes are quite strong
...Frontline spray!! What can I say! As we don't have a lot of money coming in to the household I was a bit dubeous of trying it because of the price. We've tried absolutely everything. If you think about the price of them all and add them all together they cost a lot more than frontline so I thought as a final resort I would try it! WOW. It is brilliant. We have 2 cats and 5 kittens who were all infested. We applied it to all of them and within a few hours saw the effects.
They like to sleep on the white cushions of our sons sofa and there were dead and dying fleas galore! Then on closer inspection we noticed the little blighters everywhere!
I will never try a different product again. overall the product is brilliant and in the long run it saves you money! It lasts for two months. All you do is brush the fur backwards and spray it on...

Look no further to share your broadband
Review of Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch (BEFSR41) by
davechm
Advantages: Simple, effective, great value
Disadvantages: none
...Background
=
Myself and my fellow student housemates picked up this router from amazon.co.uk (cheapest price we could find after considerable research) for £41 one week ago. We wanted to share my 150kbps ntl broadband access amongst our 3 PCs and 1 Apple iMac.
Setup
Setuping up shared internet access really couldnt be easier than with this Linksys unit. Simply reset your cable modem, connect it to the router, power up the router, reset the router and connect your separate computers. The router comes with a short length of ethernet cable to connect it to your cable modem.
N.B. It is important to use the correct RJ45 Cat5 ethernet cable. We tried to use a ethernet 'crossover' cable for one PC and it doesnt work. Purchasing another correct cable solved this.
Even though we all use different operating systems (Windows XP...
