Cateye Strada 5
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Lacks features, durability
...Cateye have managed to produce a very functional cycle computer at a very good price point.
The controls take a bit of getting use to as there are very few buttons on the computer itself but are very simple once mastered and can easily be accessed when riding.
The unit doesn't have very many advanced features or tricks and lacks capabilities found in more expensive models such as average pace and heart rate but handles the basics adequately such as speed, odometer, time etc.
The display is dominated by a speed reading and is very easy to see at a glance and the other less vital info is set below it in smaller writing but which is still viewable.
However I am concerned about the durability, as the unit feels quite plasticky and not terribly water resistant.
Overall though a great buy for the money....

A Cateye That Really Can Pick Out The Cats' Eyes
Advantages: White hi-power LED for resonable economy
Disadvantages: Pricey - still need another light to aalert pedestrians
...either not present or inadequate. Yes, you can pay out £200 for rechargeable halogen 'off road' packs, but in the real world of trying to commute at all times of the year, 'proper' headlights are thin on the ground.
The Cateye HL-EL530 bridges this gap. You couldn't actually call it a headlamp, in the same way that a car has them, but it does indeed throw enough light out and down to light the road ahead, if only a few yards ahead. No-one said you could plough on at the same speed!
Thanks to the technology that now allows for The Holy Grail of economy lighting, brilliant white LEDs, this light is positively arc-like in power, throwing out some 1500 or more candlepower. Not bad for something with one LED running off 4 AA batteries. If you catch the beam full face, prepare for a white spot in your vision like in the bad old days...

Many Bulbs Make Light Work
Advantages: Bright, Clear, Battery LIfe
Disadvantages: Cost, Scratches easily
...Apparently, women need men like a fish needs a bicycle. Well, assuming that the fish will be cycling in twilight conditions, it will also be in need of adequate safety equipment, of which a decent front light is an essential part.
All of which probably means that women need cycle lights too.
On a more serious note, and despite the fact that the days are getting longer, there is probably nothing more important when you are cycling than being seen. I won't rant on endlessly about it - it's just common sense. What I will tell you about is one way in which you can improve your visibility and it comes in the form of the HL-EL 300 from Cateye.
Cateye have been making peripherals for bikes for quite some time now and have built up something of a reputation for solid, functional and innovative solutions. They aren't the cheapest, but...

Excellent commuting light, but a bit expensive and poor mounting
Advantages: Excellent battery, bright
Disadvantages: Price, poor fixing bracket
...The mounting bracket for this light is the sort that uses a strap which threads through an tightening screw. This allows the bracket to fit any size of handle bar or tube. However after a very muddy ride the bracket would not tighten or loosen, the only way to remove the fitting was to remove the handlebar grips, gear and brake leavers and slide the bracket of the handlebars. Turned out that a bit of mud had jammed the tightening screw, some wd40 soon solved the issue. I have also noticed that the bracket does loosen after a few rides, not a major issue but annoying just the same.
The light can be easily removed from the fixing bracket, which is handy for leaving the bike in the town centre. Similarly, the bracket is also designed to be easily removed to fit between bikes, but as explained above it could be better.
The EL320 does...

Thomas lights the way at bedtime
Advantages: Helps give your child confidence at bedtime.
Disadvantages: The character theme of the nightlight will make not suitable for some.
...~Drifting off to sleep~
My son has always been an active baby, since birth he was lifting his head to see what was going on around him when he was only a few days old. He has always been alert, active, inquisitive, and lively so when he needed to sleep during the day it always took him a bit of effort to switch off. Luckily once he was asleep he would sleep for a good amount of time, and at bedtime he became quite fussy as he couldn?t soothe himself to sleep easily, once he was asleep he would sleep through the night only waking for a feed. We tried different methods to sleep train him from birth, and even though he was in a routine and we would wined down the day with the light dimmed and take a calm, soft, gentle approach to the bedtime routine it still took him quite a bit of effort to get into the land of nod. Once he had...

Nice idea but....
Advantages: Great little size, very bright, easy to use, good quality lights
Disadvantages: horrible product fault - straps often get jammed and won't budge
...These are 2 small CatEye light, i say very small they are jolly conveinient for popping into your pocket when you have left your bike somewhere.
Both have 2 batteries, AA in the front and AAA in the back, and despite the size work fantasticly for the price you pay.
These aren't the sort of lights that light up the whole road in front of you. I would suggest you only use these are roads with street lights. I have ridden late at night on back road, it is not a good idea, they don't light anything up. But then you aren't paying for something that lights up the whole road. These are for main road use, and for this - they work fine. Very bright and you will be very visable despite the size.
There are 3 different settings on the rear light and 2 on the front. These are solid light and flashing light and the rear light also does...

Its No Dance For This Flexloose Lightset
Advantages: Compact, Versatile, Bright for size
Disadvantages: Appallingly fragile bracket, poor waterproofing
...The Brand
Cateye are a Japanese company and have been around since 1946. They have 3 factories 2 in Japan and one in China. They have always produced good looking (in my opinion) and well built lights (certainly in the past). Pricier but better made than their competitors.
The Cateye Experience
The lights are small and have 3 fairly bright LED's. They are intended to make you visible to other road users in well lit towns. If you are venturing out onto unlit roads then these are not the lights for you. The lights have 2 modes steady and flash. A small button on the underside of the unit turns the light on/off and selects flash/steady. The button is fairly easy to use, and can be found with little trouble with a gloved hand.
So in summary these lights are small, look good, and are bright enough for commuting...

Light Blue
Advantages: long lasting, light frangrance
Disadvantages: can't live without it
...This perfume is a must have item in my opinion for any female. I got my last bottle for around £15 from semichem - bargain! It's quite big too, I've had mine for about 5 months and I wear it most days, theres still over a third left in the bottle. Its light and refreshing eau de toilette. It was launched in 2001. It is a light floral fragrance with a blend of flowers and fruit: apple, bluebells, jasmine, bamboo and white rose. There are so many layers with this frangrance and it has subtle hints of cedarwood, amber and musk. Because it is such a fresh and light scent - it works best in the summer. I long for the sunshine so that I can cover myself in this delightful perfume.
When I wear it I always get comments like "what is that gorgeous smell you are wearing?" Its suitable of every occassion, day to day wear and evenings. I prefer...

LIGHTLY SCENTED, LIGHTLY BLUE
Advantages: beautiful smell, wearable anytime
Disadvantages: none
...I first got into this perfume about 4 years ago, and it has stayed a favourite of mine ever since.
I was looking for a new smell, and being a perfume label-addict I went to Boots to find out any recommendations. The woman at the counter pointed me in the direction of this. I liked the smell as soon as it was sprayed. It is a sort of clean, fresh, slightly light musky smell, but I think smelly a bit fresh air and cottony as well! The assistant suggested letting the smell settle on my skin and seeing how it smelt after it had faded a bit.
Even a few hours later the smell still lingered and many people have commented on the nice smell hours after spraying.
You can buy this in 25ml, 50ml and 100ml. It's obviously cheaper the bigger you buy. A rought guide for prices are £15 for 25ml, £23 for 50ml and £30-£33 for 100ml. This always...

Illuminating the Night with Light in Style
Advantages: Powerful, lightweight, highly practical, stylish and excellent value for money.
Disadvantages: A bit too strong. Struggles with thicker books.
...INTRODUCTION
On Thursday, 12th November one of my most epic searches finally came to and end in the most unlikely of locations. In the Christmas stocking filler section of our local garden centre, nestled amongst other little gadgets and gizmos, I found ?The Really Tiny Book Light?. Let me get something straight from the get go ? it wasn?t as if I was searching for something perfect ? I just wanted a serviceable book light to allow me to read at night when my wife preferred to go to sleep. However, my quest for a reliable book light stretches back three Christmases and two birthdays and I have a pile of rejects and failures that would justify a car boot sale table all by themselves. So it was with a mixture of excitement and trepidation that I took this little gadget to the cash desk, hoping it would finally turn out to be ?the...
