...Ever though what is paradise? Well let me tell you about the Cayman Islands. They are 3 beautiful little islands (or splashes of colour as we call them) situated in the middle of the Caribbean in between Jamaica and Cuba. Originally discovered by Christopher Columbus after seeing Turtles nearby. The island is a British Overseas Territory so many things operate similar to Britain including driving on the left. The Main Island and home to the Capital George Town is Grand Cayman. This is where most people visiting the Cayman Islands will come to weather it be by plane or cruise ship. The smaller sister island have very few residents and even less tourism. However are very beautiful and great for that unspoilt feel. Review of Cayman Islands

Grand Cayman - pure paradise

Advantages: Beautiful clean beaches, clear water and nice weather.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive and over run from people from cruise liners.

...I went to Grand Cayman last October and found it to be everything I'd imagined it to be. The beaches have lovely light coloured soft sand, beautiful clear waters and the snorkelling is fantastic. So many brightly coloured fish to see and reefs to explore. In October it is very hot there but there is the occasional downpour which tends to be very heavy. However, the rain does not last long and within half an hour everything is dry again. We stayed at a hotel called the Spanish Bay Reef which was excellent and is situatied at the north end of the island. The food was really good and they also laid on barbecues in the evenings on the beach. I would recommend avoiding staying at any of the hotels along seven mile beach. These hotels also cater for passengers visiting from the huge cruise liners that moor just off the island about 3 times...

Deep Dive 800 feet

Advantages: The memory will stay with you for ever

...Grand Cayman is the only place in the world where members of the general public can descend to 800 feet in a research submersible. They have two submersibles in operation, each carries two passengers and the pilot, and operates five times per day, seven days a week. Its been about five years or so since I was there, and it was 269 US dollars per person then (about £180 at that time). Expensive, yes, but the one hour journey was worth every penny - an absolute trip of a lifetime. The Cayman Trench is one of the deepest stretches of water on the globe, and the Cayman Wall, just a few hundred metres from shore, is reputed to drop almost vertically for 25000 feet. ...I did not care for this hotel. It was very rustic, lumpy beds, few amenities and the help was not always helpful or even pleasant.There appeared to be a lot of tension between the owner and the help. The worst was the owner that runs the place more like an boot camp. Its her way or nothing .in other words not at all accomadating. You must show up when the "gong" rings and march in and eat if you want to or not and god help you if you don't praise her "cooking". She gets angry if you want to eat anywhere else . I felt like my grandmother was forcing me to clean my plate. And it wasn't always good. I found other spots on the island that were much more appealing ,friendly, and had a lot more to offer. Nim Can Keep Her Island!

Advantages: fun for children, animals were good
Disadvantages: no chemistry between actors, bad effects

...Nim and her father Jack have sailed around the world twice and made a discovery which saw them setting up home on an undiscovered island. Nim has no mother as she was taken by a great white whale when Nim was a baby and so father Jack is always searching for the whale to be close to her Mom. Jack works as a scientist and is always on the lookout for new marine animals. As a result of his work he goes off for 2 nights leaving Nim on the Island with her nest friends, Silkie the seal and iguana Fred. Nim is not bother by being left on her own as she has her books for company, her favourite being the stories about adventurer Alex Rover. As Nim?s father leaves Nim gets an email from the Alex Rover who needs help with details of the volcano which is on their island. ...Well, continuing with my reviews of my time in Florida I thought I would right about the next theme park I visited, "The Island of Adventures" part of the Universal Studios branch, located in Orlando Florida. Having never even heard about this park, and already purchasing a multipass I figured I might as well check this place out. I can honestly say I would compare this place to being just as goods as Universal Studios. ...A pleasant little film this one, not the greatest children's adventure film ever made, but a reasonable effort. Synopsis Nim is an 11 year old girl who lost her mother when she was a toddler. He father who's a writer and marine biologist told her she was swallowed by a blue whale which was on the run from a ship called the Buccaneer. Nim and her father Jack live on an island they discovered after sailing around the world for several years. They are the only inhabitants, unless you count a collection of animals which Nim has befriended, included a sealion, a bearded dragon and a pelican. Disadvantages: Some tragedy but it all might end in something good, is that naive?

The bookseller tried to put me off it, he said it was by that Hislop woman who he thought was the wife of some obnoxious T.V. critic. In fact it's by Victoria Hislop who writes travel features for the Sunday Telegraph, parenting and education for the Daily Telegraph and general features for Woman and Home. I don't know any more about her. It's published by Headline Book Publishing, cost £6.99, ISBN 0-7553-0951-0. I found a round sticker on it saying Richard and Judy's Summer Read and thought I might have got the wrong thing; the Observer calls it a "beach book" with a heart.
