What to write on a cd-r?

Advantages: Cheap, Comes wrapped and with cases, and er... nice colour discs
Disadvantages: None really

...So about 2 years ago I popped into the local Asda, and saw these reduced to £1, so I thought I would get them as you can't go wrong for £1. And I didn't go wrong, they are really good. Now I buy them quite regularly. I mainly use CD-R's for music, and these give really good sound quality on my cd player. Reliability... I have had lots of CD-R discs that have come up with errors such as 'Disk Error' and others during the burning process, but the times that I have used these (which is a lot), what I can remember I haven't had that happen once. With a 48x speed the process is really quick, even burning a CD with the full 80 minutes taken up. Use? I use CD-R's mainly for music CDs and VCDs but you can use it for all sorts, e.g. Data, Photos, Copying Games (although that's illegal). These can only be used once, which means you can...

Another Day, Another CD-R

Advantages: Flawless, huge capacity
Disadvantages: None thus far

...I'm a bit confused. The picture on Ciao shows the CDR74, 650MB of this product but the description is that of the 700MB, CDR80 version. For the purpose of this review I'll go with Ciao's description - which is lucky because that's the one I own! I've recently completed a TDK CD-R review but when I saw that this alternative TDK product was listed on Ciao, I felt compelled to review this too. I know, I need to get out more, but my wife and daughter are at Ikea and my son is in his room playing with his Thomas The Tank Engine tracks and trucks, so what the hell? CD-R Review

Advantages: Good brand,nice packaging
Disadvantages: nothing really

...I purchased a pack of these as i had many files on my PC to back-up. Seeing as they were reasonably priced,had cases and a well known brand, i thought i'd purchase them to test out. These are recordable CD's which mean that you can only write to them once and then that it is. If you are after Cd's that you can write to more than once then you are after CD-RW's however over time the quality degradeds quite quickly and also the price is a lot more for them. These particular Cd's are have a capacity of 700MB or 80 minutes. This means you can store files up to 700MB of space for data, or 80 minutes of audio. These can also write data at up to 52x which means that it can really burn some stuff fast however i would not recommend anyone to write data at this speed as it will not be as good quality and it will burn out the disks quicker...

The Best Brand CD-R So Far

CD-OK

Advantages: Store yor data, free your hard drive
Disadvantages: come on a spindle and have no cases

...I recently managed to fill up my 80GB Hard drive with all sorts of rubbish and needed some CD's to store my information on. Usually I would buy them from Tesco's, but as I was In a hurry I popped into my local computer retailer (Northbridge Computers in Lowestoft) to see what he had available. All he had on this occassion was TDK CD-R80 discs. There was single CD's in cases, boxs of ten in cases and spindles of twenty-five and one hundred. I plummeted for the spindle of twenty-five as I wasn't rich enough at the time to buy the big fat one hundred spindle. ***Product*** The disc's themselves are light blue with a silver swirl on it. TDK CD-R80 is clearly stamped on it. There is plenty of room to write on them and they can store up to 700MB of data or 80 minutes recording time. TDK CD-R Marker Pen

Advantages: Last a long time
Disadvantages: Only 4 Colours

...the front of the packet or case to hold the pens securely in place ***The Pens*** As I have already mentioned there are four pens in a packet, Red, Green, Blue and Black. Each one has written in silver TDK CD-R PEN with the TDK logo clearly visible. On the end of each pen is a different coloured screw in cap to help identify the pen that you require. CD'S Great things....

Advantages: box, speed

...We all love to go on our computer and most of us like to have a lot of stuff on the PC so one of your solutions is to back everything up on CD-R to back up things or make an audio CD you need to have a thing called a CD writer or a DVD writer which now are very cheap you can get one for 20 - 30 pound. But once you have biught the CD'S then you need CD's to write to the CD's are called removable media because you can revove the media. I am writing a review on imation CD-R's. CD's are very cheap by them selves and if you get them in a bundle they are no different. I bought these CD'S a pack of 50 for 15pound this works out at about 30p a CD which isnt bad. Get a huge stack of 100 CD-Rs cheaply!

Advantages: Cheap and no problems so far.
Disadvantages: Like any cd, you have to check they are ageing ok.

...I've been using BenQ CD-R's for getting on for a year I think and haven't had any trouble with them yet. PRICE Check out Amazon.co.uk for this 100 shrink-wrapped pack for just £10.99! The prices seem to have been slashed by about 50% in the last month or so. (Note that they're just shrink-wrapped though - no spindle I think). THE SPECS = The technical info over on Amazon says that they have an estimated life of 100 years and some jargon about "BLER is less than 50 and Jitters less than 35" (which basically equates to fairly standard to good error levels). They're 700 MB (80 mins) CD's and rated at 52x for writing speed. MY COMMENTS = So, for the time I've had these, none of them have failed to write ok (that's getting on for 100 CD's now) and I haven't had problems with them going bad...

...When purchasing my new laptop, which was years ago now, there was one important feature to me and that was that it had to be able to write to CD's because if there's one hobby I have, and one thing I love, it's music. Whilst we are in an age of MP3's where CD's don't really matter when CD's do come into play is at parties (can't have everyone crowded around one iPod) and also in cars.
