Another Day, Another CD-R

Advantages: Flawless, huge capacity
Disadvantages: None thus far

...I'm a bit confused. The picture on Ciao shows the CDR74, 650MB of this product but the description is that of the 700MB, CDR80 version. For the purpose of this review I'll go with Ciao's description - which is lucky because that's the one I own! I've recently completed a TDK CD-R review but when I saw that this alternative TDK product was listed on Ciao, I felt compelled to review this too. I know, I need to get out more, but my wife and daughter are at Ikea and my son is in his room playing with his Thomas The Tank Engine tracks and trucks, so what the hell? What to write on a cd-r?

Advantages: Cheap, Comes wrapped and with cases, and er... nice colour discs
Disadvantages: None really

...'t 'go over' the information to use again. If you want to use discs multiple times then you need CD-RW discs which allow this. However, with CD-RW's, lots of older CD players, and lots of new ones don't support the playback of them, so that's why I find CD-R's better for audio CD's. Packaging? As you can see from the picture, the box that they come in is a red swirl on the left with a blue section on the right. It has Maxell written in large at the top and CD-R 80 XL-S 700mb in the middle of the box. At the bottom right is the top left corner of one of the discs, with a little box next to it saying 48x. Also on the box is a white/silver and blue water effect ripple thingy ma bobby. Cases? The cases of the CD's have lots of small writing on the front, it doesn't look very attractive but I guess they thing people will print their own...

...sunlight. The discs can be cleaned, as with other disccs, using a clean, dry soft cloth. Do not attach anything to the data side of the discs as this will cause damage. If labelling is necessary, it is advised that water resistat felt pens are used to write on the label side only!! Biros and other sharp nibbed pend will cause irrepairable damage to your discs and therefore will stop the data being retrieved! TDK Plus CD-R discs are compatible with all types and speeds of CD-R writing systems and are playback compatible with all CD-ROM drives and audio CD players. CD-R Review

Advantages: Good brand,nice packaging
Disadvantages: nothing really

...I purchased a pack of these as i had many files on my PC to back-up. Seeing as they were reasonably priced,had cases and a well known brand, i thought i'd purchase them to test out. These are recordable CD's which mean that you can only write to them once and then that it is. If you are after Cd's that you can write to more than once then you are after CD-RW's however over time the quality degradeds quite quickly and also the price is a lot more for them. These particular Cd's are have a capacity of 700MB or 80 minutes. This means you can store files up to 700MB of space for data, or 80 minutes of audio. These can also write data at up to 52x which means that it can really burn some stuff fast however i would not recommend anyone to write data at this speed as it will not be as good quality and it will burn out the disks quicker...

...I recently managed to fill up my 80GB Hard drive with all sorts of rubbish and needed some CD's to store my information on. Usually I would buy them from Tesco's, but as I was In a hurry I popped into my local computer retailer (Northbridge Computers in Lowestoft) to see what he had available. All he had on this occassion was TDK CD-R80 discs. There was single CD's in cases, boxs of ten in cases and spindles of twenty-five and one hundred. I plummeted for the spindle of twenty-five as I wasn't rich enough at the time to buy the big fat one hundred spindle. ***Product*** The disc's themselves are light blue with a silver swirl on it. TDK CD-R80 is clearly stamped on it. There is plenty of room to write on them and they can store up to 700MB of data or 80 minutes recording time. Review of TDK CD-R 80 min

Get a huge stack of 100 CD-Rs cheaply!

Advantages: Cheap and no problems so far.
Disadvantages: Like any cd, you have to check they are ageing ok.

...I've been using BenQ CD-R's for getting on for a year I think and haven't had any trouble with them yet. PRICE Check out Amazon.co.uk for this 100 shrink-wrapped pack for just £10.99! The prices seem to have been slashed by about 50% in the last month or so. (Note that they're just shrink-wrapped though - no spindle I think). THE SPECS = The technical info over on Amazon says that they have an estimated life of 100 years and some jargon about "BLER is less than 50 and Jitters less than 35" (which basically equates to fairly standard to good error levels). They're 700 MB (80 mins) CD's and rated at 52x for writing speed. MY COMMENTS = So, for the time I've had these, none of them have failed to write ok (that's getting on for 100 CD's now) and I haven't had problems with them going bad...

Word for word

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: slightly more expensive than other brands

...It would appear from the shelves that CD's are going the way of the good old Vinyl, into obscurity and beyond. With the DVD probably now the main media for saving files to with the exception of those knacky little USB drives CD's seem to be harder to come by these days. It's shame really they have served us so well over the years, and none more so than Verbatim. I recently had cause to make a few audio CD's and therefore needed some media to put the music onto. I chose the 10 pack Verbatim CD-R 700Mb, which came in at around £5 on Amazon, not bad that's only 50p a disc. I know you can get cheaper versions, but in the past I've ended up throwing more of those type away than I have actually been able to get anything onto. As many of you will know the word Verbatim means word for word or exact, so the name itself...

TDK CD-R Marker Pen

Each one has written in silver TDK CD-R PEN with the TDK logo clearly visible. On the end of each pen is a different coloured screw in cap to help identify the pen that you require. As well as this each pen has a different coloured lid and have a clip on them so that you can clip them to the inside of your jacket or shirt pocket.
