...Fawlty Towers is my favourite comedy and one of favourites in our home and also with most of my friends and family. It originally aired on BBC 1 in the 1970s It is a comedy made at the height of comedy in the 70s and is about a hotel - "Fawlty Towers" in Torquay. It is probably one of the best known and most loved British comedy and although there were only ever two series they are forever being shown on channels such as UKTV gold - and with there being this boxset available you will never forget this great programme. ...Alton Towers with a Toddler I visited Alton towers yesterday and while this attraction has plenty for both grown ups and children I visited with my toddler son. I first visited Alton towers when I was a child myself and have experienced the big rollercoaster's such as Air and Nemesis but this visit was completely different so thought it would be useful to do a review of a family visit. Famous Five Silver Tower interactive CD

Advantages: Stimulating to early readers
Disadvantages: Difficult to read the programmers mind sometimes

...This starts with the children arriving at a house on the coast near a lighthouse with a mysterious silver tower across the bay on an island. This is owned by one of the children (George the tomboy female). By clicking a pointer (which has an "active eye" that blinks on and off when an active part of the picture is touched) on objects or people, a result of some sort is achieved. Either a solution to a puzzle is acted out, or some information is given to help progress the game. It must be admitted that sometimes the sensitivity or accuracy leaves a little to be desired. All to easy to miss some clues as the pointer just misses the "hot spot". I must admit that I found it difficult as the instructions on the CD case were brief, for example no hint about SAVE, but this was found by trial to be accessed from the F1 function key...

Advantages: Definitely action-packed! (+) a good, shorter read (+) enjoyable (+) not typical characters
Disadvantages: takes a little while to get going (-) slightly dated (-) limited space/science knowledge in parts

...This past weekend we had an American colleague of ours come to London for the first time so my husband and I (we work at the same company) decided to take her around sightseeing and show her some of London. As we work quite near the Tower of London and both hadn't been here since we were kids we decided to make it our first port of call. The Tower of London is situated right on the River Thames in the borough district of Tower Hamlets with the closest tube station being Tower Hill on the Circle and District Line. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 originally intended as a Royal Palace. It was then used as a prison with a great number of very famous prisoners, mostly kings and queens of England and the various wives of Henry the 8th. This is where the phrase "sent to the tower" comes from in terms of being sent to prison...

Faulty Tower

Advantages: Lots of stars in their hey-days, easy to follow plot
Disadvantages: Drags in some places and these days, seems really scary!

...This classic disaster film from 1974 is based on 2 novels - "The Tower" and "The Glass Inferno". The film works I think because we don't know who will survive except for that fact that Steve McQueen and Paul Newman will obviously get out! This film has been on TV numerous times and even in these days of real disaster, it's still an exciting film. It must have looked superb on the big screen. It's made by the same person who made "The Poseidon Adventure" - Irwin Allen. The basic plot of what I think is the ultimate disaster movie, centres around a fire in a multi-storey building. It's part offices, part hotel suites. Guests in the world's biggest skyscraper get trapped at the top of the building when a fire breaks out near the lower floors.
