Cell from Hell
Advantages: Good Story, entertaining, quick read
Disadvantages: Disappointing ending, not as descriptive as other King novels
... CELL
STEPHEN KING
I have come to the decision that Stephen King doesn't care much for modern technology-or the people who've created much of what we now rely on for everything in life day to day.
In some of his other books, King has created worlds where Man-made viruses wipe out more than 99% of the world's population leaving the survivors facing a battle of biblical proportions.
Cars inhabited by evil spirits kill people, or all the cars come alive and take over the world.
Machinery devours not only the souls of the workers, but their bodies (or parts of them anyhow) as well.
I think maybe he has the soul of a Luddite-albeit a twisted and crazy one.
I can just imagine Mr. King in a previous life, gleefully, chopping to bits the machines forced upon mankind during the Industrial Revolution - take that you...

Cell.
Advantages: a new stephen king book!
Disadvantages: seems slightly rushed
...This is my first book review so please bear with me and let me know how to improve it!
Cell, Stephen King's latest venture - out now in hard back copy, immediately tells us the central theme of the book by its title and the images on the front cover - cellphones. This is slightly unusual for King to choose such a short, descriptive title, but this is about the only break from King's normal style that we see.
The plot of this story is (as outlined on the intro page and the first page proper, so no plot spoilers here!) an apocalyptic one. In less than a month, civilisation as we know it (or more accurately, the americans know it, as there are no global references in this book) is over.
This apocalypse has been caused by what has been termed the Pulse - a signal transmitted that is picked up by every mobile phone in usage...

The Cell - Movie Only
Advantages: Original, daring, visually stunning...
Disadvantages: Bare-bones plot, definite reek of misgony...
...Tarsem Singh (or just Tarsem as he prefers to be known) is not, I suspect, a very likable chap. In interviews, he comes across as obnoxious, chauvinistic and pretentious, and there is little in his work that contradicts these impressions. Be that as it may, said work never fails to enchant me.
The Cell, Singh's debut feature-film following a widely-lauded career in music videos and advertising, is astonishing on several levels. Granted, none of those levels are anywhere near the level upon which the Plot is situated, but so intoxicating is most everything else that one scarcely has the wits to notice.
That plot - a flimsily-strung mesh of cliché and genre conventions - concerns the efforts of psychotherapist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) to - quite literally - get inside the mind of captured serial killer Carl Stargher (Vincent...

The King warning on cell phones!
Advantages: For King fans, it's another book by the master of horror and suspense
Disadvantages: If you are not a King fan, then its another book by King!
...surprised and start to run for their lives. The one similarity of those who are homicidal for no reason, is that they have all answered a call on their mobile phones (or cell phones). Hence the title - Cell. The event that turned the majority of humans into prehistoric becomes known as the Pulse.
Clay's first thought is one of survival - after all no-one wants to be killed. He saves the life of another man and they in turn save the life of a young girl. And these three embark on a journey together, a journey to discover what has happened to their fellow men and women and also Clay's own journey to find out what has happened to his young son, who had a cell phone of his own.
My Opinion
************
As a fan of King's, I have to say that I find that all of his books are exceptionally well written. Some have a rather slow start but...

Cell... my first and last?
Advantages: Original idea, moral tale, vivid descriptions, likeable characters
Disadvantages: inconsistent, unbelievable at times, poor ending
...Cell: Stephen King
I'd never read a Stephen King novel until "Cell". In all the years, through all the cases of books, there isn't a complete King novel in my memory. I encountered his short stories once, somewhere along the way ("The Langoliers" has etched itself in my mind as one of the most disturbing stories ever). I started "It", "Rose Madder" and "Insomnia" but none of these readings went past the first thirty pages. Therefore, my preconceptions of "Cell" were that it was going to be a short read? about thirty pages.
The opening scene crushed my negative preconceptions. The surrealistic nature of the situation in which lead character Clay finds himself, combined with the grotesque images that King pours on to the page, caught my attention immediately. This was short-lived, however. By page 60, my interest had begun to wane...

The Cell
Advantages: Jennifer Lopez
Disadvantages: some of the violence and sexual scenes are almost too much
...thinks is art.
However, the cell is different because it keeps its feet firmly on the ground and in the real world. An interesting film - probably not for everyone due to the violent and sexual nature of some of the mind shots.
If you're into horror or thrillers - go for it, but if you're looking for a casual film to watch - leave well alone - it deserves its 18 certificate....

The Amazing Stealth Action Game - Splinter Cell
Advantages: Awesome graphic and realistic sound
Disadvantages: None so far
...Here's my another game review of the most amazing stealth action game I have
ever played. Splinter Cell. I played it on my N-Gage first, then I played on my PC
for more realistic experience.
In this game, you'll play a character, an NSA agent named Sam Fisher. Sam Fisher
is a member of special division on NSA called Third Echelon.
Unlike other members, Sam Fisher has to do every mission by himself without
failing. Failure means national security will be endangered.
That's why Sam Fisher is a well trained agent. Ha can do certain tricks that
ordinary man can't do. He can sneak in to enemy's place without any enemy
realize his existence, although he's just few yards away. Also, he can do acrobatic
action such as jumping to higher places using a wall, hiding above an enemy by
stretching his legs between walls, wall climbing using...

Dissapointing read from an up and down author (Cell - King)
Advantages: You'll still be able to use your phone
Disadvantages: Strangely Kingless feel
...not doing very much, the (so aptly named...) 'phone crazies' bumble around displaying as much inactivity as their sane counterparts (Oh, apart from the odd mutilation of their comrades).
Clasiccally, Riddell builds up a group of normies, each one an amateur psychologism of American Man, and they head off across America for more deeds of derring do.
It seems as though King has sampled themes which he masterfully explored in his earlier books (the end of the world scenario in The Stand and the powerful father-son relationship in Pet Semetary to name a couple) and half-heartedly rolled them together into one abysmal story which ends as abruptly and subtly as a train crash.
It must be said that King has his ups and downs, and unfortunately this book is definitely one of his low points. Cell was in fact the first Stephen King book I attempted...

Splinter Cell
Advantages: Atmospheric gameplay, cool gadgets
Disadvantages: Some ideas taken from MGS2, some
...Naturally, before playing on Splinter Cell, due to all the rumours about it being an exact copy of Metal Gear, I was sceptical. However, after just a few minutes of playing as Sam Fisher; the third echelon special forces operative, I soon realised how brilliant this game is.
Now, admittedly the name Sam Fisher doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as Solid Snake but he is certainly a far better stealth operative with more gadgets, moves and grey hair than Snake could ever muster.
The game starts with two agents lying in the cold spying on an enemy force. They creep into a vent and make their way down to a bunker of sorts. They discover a huge army ready to mobilise and immediately transmit to HQ. Unfortunately before they manage to communicate what they’re seeing in more detail they’re seen by a guard and fired...

Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Wii)
Advantages: Good gameplay
Disadvantages: Average graphics, awful controls.
...Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Wii)
I received this game as a Christmas present in 2008, though I believe the price to be in the region of £15 from Game.
I have to say however, I wasn't impressed. Graphically the game is okay, not amazing, but tolerable. The gameplay isn't even that bad and actually allows you to become quite engaged with the game.
The major downfall however, is the controls. They are quite simply awful, and I think with them being so bad, it takes an awful lot away from the game. You move around using the Nunchuck analogue stick and use the z button to use weapons such as grenades. The real problem is with the Wii remote controls. Rather than pointing at the screen where you want to shoot, you have to use the remote to look around until the crosshair (which is always in the centre of the screen) is...
