As you can imagine the property prices were extortionate, so I had to sacrafice the luxuries such as CENTRAL HEATING and DOUBLE GLAZING, in order to get a roof over my head. After the move and I had settled down a little and more importantly saved some cash, the time was upon me to get central heating (after double glazing). As there is no mains gas supply in the village where I live the options I had were either OIL, LPG (bottled gas), or SOLAR. As tempting as the solar option was, I simply couldn't afford it or I would have. The other options OIL or LPG would mean a huge gas tank or an oil tank somwhere in my garden. ...On 9th October 2009 a Salesman came from Northern Gas and quoted us a price for a new boiler, and as we had been without heat and water for two weeks waiting for quotes, and as we are both in our seventies, he said he would try to arrange installation the following week. On 12th October their Surveyor came to assess the work involved and said installation could not start until three weeks. He said the boiler quoted could not be installed as quoted for and the flue would have to go up through the roof, adding another approx. three hundred pounds to the quote. The salesman had quoted one thousand seven hundred and eighty-five pounds and took a deposit of three hundred and fifty-seven pounds. ...Sales After getting a quote from British Gas for a new boiler, and being generally unimpressed with the pushy salesman and price (~£4000), we tried Nothern Gas Heating, who quoted ~£2500. The salesman was polite and not pushy. When we said we only wanted a quote to see how much we would need to save, he asked when they could contact us again, we said next summer, and we heard nothing from them until then. When they did phone, they were obviously keen for our business, so we were offered an option of 12 months interest free, after which we could pay off the balance in full, or pay back the money over a set period (with interest). Advantages: Quick quote on the day. Finance packages. 5yr guarantee to boilers....
Disadvantages: May take about a week for Sales Consultant to visit.

...immediately..My advice is that contact Northern Gas for a quote only after acquiring several. That way you will be able to haggle with the consultant when they visit. It seems to me that the best deal they offer is on the day...so haggle your head off. After all it's still a FREE quote like everyone else. I opted for their interest free finance on 24 months. This was good as no other company offered me a finance package. I do however regret not buying their 5 year boiler service plan for £320. It appeared expensive at the time, but thinking about the fact that the average annual gas safety check is about £80, I could have saved a cool £80. **A shame last reviewer had a bad experience. Advantages: Good heating system, Good salesman, Mixer shower now power shower
Disadvantages: Lack of communication and also very poor communication, installers didn't care, without heating and hot water and damage to property

He came to see if we could have a new boiler for our central heating system as our old back boiler was 20 years old and was on its last legs (if it was an animal it would have been put to sleep years ago). ...BEWARE OF NORTHERN GAS HEATING -------------------------------------------------------- Absolu tely terrible organisation - please learn from my mistakes and do not use them. I live near London and it took ten man days to install a boiler which leaks, is not powerful enough to run a hot bath and trips the electric fuse about once a week. I have attempted to get them to make good on their botch job but all they do is quote their "terms and conditions", which in effect appear to say that if they install something and it screws everything else up, it is not their fault. I feel I was misled into buying a combination boiler which is not pwoerful enough - friends of mine live in bigger houses which run fine with combi boilers but ours being 28KW is apparently not up to the job, They did give me one laugh though.
