Centro Hotel, very central

Advantages: Pleasant staff, good size room, cheap, quiet
Disadvantages: breakfast

...I stayed in the Hotel centro when i went to Florence towards the end of 2006. It is located in a superb spot within walking distance from the station which was a first advantage. The hotel itself is based upstairs over a supermarket which closes at around 10 at night and is down a quieter back street therefore it is a reasonably quiet street, meaning you get a good nights sleep. On arrival you have to buzz in, so a receptionist, who are on 24 hours, can let you into the building. You go upstairs to the small reception desk. The 3 different receptionists that were on were all very pleasant and spoke both Italien and English which made checking in a very easy process. Review of Centro Hotel, Florence

A good phone, if a little confusing.

Advantages: Good looks and robust feel make this a definite improvement. Useful and reliable smartphone.
Disadvantages: Irritating on/off switch. Can be confusing at first.

...Palm have always been known for their business phones and the centro does not disappoint. It is much less bulky and easier to hold than previous models and may therefore appeal to the more style conscious business person. The Centro retains the same operating system as previous Palm's and this can be a little confusing at times, it is not especially flash and often looks rather retro however it is a solid system which works well. The camera is not great quality but this is a phone designed for business and on that you cannot fault it; the calender and other applications make it easy to organise yourself and the contact list is extensive with the opportunity to associate many details with each contact. One small issue is that the on/off button can be pressed unintentionally but again it is simply a case of getting used to it...

Review of Centro de las Orquideas, Puerto de la Cruz

Good place to go

Advantages: Has everything under the one roof.
Disadvantages: Some of the clothes shops are quiet expensive

...Centro Colombo for any visitors is a good place to go. I spent some time working in Lisbon last summer and found it quite useful. The cinema shows all the latest releases in english and it's quiet cheap. Can't say I enjoyed McD's which you'll find everywhere but there is a great selection of restaurants on the top floor, inclduing one cerverjaria Lusitania I think it's called which does really good food. The supermarket downstairs has an excellent selection especially in wine and other beverages. Some nice clothes shops as well but a bit more expensive than I'd thought. Well served by the metro and it's just across the road from Estadio da Luz, home of Benfica....

São Salvador da Baía de Todos os Santos

Advantages: Nicely restored tourist friendly old town
Disadvantages: The ladies hunt in packs

...and the surroundings. We flew from Brasilia to Salvador Airport, taking less than two hours and checked into our hotel, Pousada do Boqoeirao, which we had booked before departure. This is an attractive Pousada or guesthouse, which was originally two colonial houses, just ten minutes walk from historical quarter of Pelourinho. Our room had a fantastic large balcony/roof-terrace with stunning views of Salvador, perfect for an aperitif while watching the sunset. Pelourinho ("Centro Historico") We foolishly booked a half day historical tour, which we could easily have done ourselves with the guidebook, on foot, or with an occasional taxi, but perhaps it was more relaxing having history force-fed to us. First we had a driving tour of the city then a walking tour, with a guide, of the historical centre, Pelourinho. This area was restored to its former glory...

.... Shelley lived here in 1822 until leaving for the tragic trip which the shipwreck on Viareggio's coast. Villa Marigola is on the top of the hill. Today is the seat of "Centro Studi della Cassa di Risparmio della Spezia". In this villa Sem Benelli wrote "La cena delle beffe" and the famous painter Arnoldo Bocklin lived here during his frequents visits to San Terenzo and drew ispiration walking in the beautiful garden of the Villa. Recently San terenzo has added modern ammeneties: a wonderful beach in front of the multicoloured houses a promenade leading west in direction of the rocks and the castle....

Milan in the spring

...Flights for a pound, how could I turn it down? Flying from Birmingham with Flybe to Milan Bergamo Airport was a new experience for me but the journey to Birmingham Airport is just over an hour from home and the parking is so close to the airport that you don't really need to get the courtesy bus. On arrival at Bergamo there is a Bus to main Centro train station just o/s arrivals for just a few euros with a journey time of around 40 mins. The hotel we chose - the Concorde was out of the City Centre but on one of the 3 tube lines and you could in fact walk in approx 20 mins. The hotel was, however, very luxurious and there was a fantastic Gelateria (ice cream shop) a couple of doors down and lots of other shops on the way to the Duomo which made up for the walk. Why Do I Always get the dud room?

Advantages: Some lovely rooms, great location and verty reasonable price.
Disadvantages: Not all rooms as nice, noisy air-con.

Yummy in the Yucatan

Advantages: Delicious local and international cuisine, good vegetarian selections.
Disadvantages: Some dishes off the menu.

...with questions. Don?t expect service to be as prompt as in the UK, this is also typical of the region as a whole. We ate there on a Sunday night; I believe they have live music on some other nights of the week. I would heartily recommend this restaurant on many counts ? not just do you have a varied and exclusive menu offering local dishes freshly prepared but it is in a beautiful and romantic setting.
