Green day move into the 21st century

...GREEN DAY 21st CENTURY BREAKDOWN Years ago when I was a lot younger than I now find myself, I discovered a band that made me excited made me feel music could be fun, id never really enjoyed music till this point. That band was obviously Green Day, with their punky take on pop music I was hooked like musical heroin. Well over the years this band grew up, as did I. First album on the turn to the 90?s,?1039 smoothed out slappy hours? was simple yet very effective punk pop which made me jump around like a loon. They followed this with a punky master class taking hints from all the greats but blending in their own soft sloppy pop, and guess what, it really worked, following the success of this album Green Day were signed to a major label a big no-no to many fans but to me it meant more money to make great music. 21st Century and Exceeding all of my expecations!

Advantages: A good mixture of rock and ballad songs. They have treated us with 18 masterpieces!

21st Century Breakdown is no let down

Advantages: Good value for money. Quality music throughout. Like idea of three acts.
Disadvantages: Could do with a little more variety. Some tracks maybe a little too long.

...After the raging success of "American Idiot" there was always going to be a lot of expectation in terms of the next Green Day album. With 18 tracks and a running time of just over 69 minutes you certainly get value for money. I also like the idea of splitting the album into three "acts". The album opens with the very short but punchy "Song Of The Century" before we move into Act I - "Heroes And Cons" and the title track itself. At just over 5 minutes it is pretty much what we've come to expect from GD. Next up is "Know Your Enemy". The first single from the album. Although it failed to make the UK Top 20 it is another good quality thunderous track. "Viva La Gloria" has a mellow opening which lasts about a minute before we return to the usual pop/punk style we are familiar with. "Before The Lobotomy" follows a similar...

21st Century Breakdown - Green Day. Exceeded expectations.

...Having preordered this item on iTunes, I anxiously awaited May 15th, having been a diehard Green Day fan for 5 years now. The introductory track, 'Song Of The Century', I had heard clips of previously on Green Day's website. Despite being only 58 seconds long, it intrigued me with the way it sounded as though it was being played on a low quality radio from a distance. '21st Century Breakdown', sharing the title of the album, is reminiscent of American Idiot's 'Jesus Of Suburbia', and brings an upbeat and cheerful start to the album, despite the deeper message of the song. Having been previously released as a single, 'Know Your Enemy' is a simple, catchy song using only 2 chords for the main riff. It is of a similar sound to 'American Idiot', which strikes me more as punk rock than the alternative that iTunes has branded it as...

Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown Album Is Simply Brilliant

Advantages: Catchy, long lasting, quality songs that will provide musical entertainment long after purchase.
Disadvantages: It has an ending

...Green Day's most recent album had many skeptics when the band first announced the track listing and some samples of the tracks were heard. The critics were worried that Green Day had already peaked with there previous effort 'American Idiot', however they were wrong to be. 21st Century Breakdown is a masterpiece of highs and lows, taking the listener on a journey through each track. Track one, 'Song of the Century' is a short introduction, that sets the scene well for the main body of the album. The striking chords of the title track then build powerfully into the mini Jesus of Suburbia that track two is. Track three, 'Know Your Enemy, the bands first single from the album is a real fist pumping, drum beat driven anthem, that is sure to be a hit on there upcoming tour. 21st CENTURY GIRL

Advantages: Effortlessly cool, great tunes, danceable
Disadvantages: Too many cooks spoil the broth? A couple of weak links

...call 'real life', with Stefani being followed around by four 'Harajuku Girls' wherever she goes, four omnipresent hand-maidens, backing singers, dancers, whatever you want to call them. Eve pops up on the Dre-produced 'Rich Girl', a re-write of 'If I Were A Rich Man' from 'Fiddler On The Roof'. The song has great bounce and propulsion, a manifesto to urban bling-bling and material gain. A 'Material Girl' for the 21st century, perhaps. The Neptunes-produced 'Hollaback Girl' has the potential to be irritating and repetitive, but Stefani just about pulls it from the brink. It also contains some of the most absurd lyrics on the album: "Let me hear you say, this shit is bananas/B-A-N-A-N-A-S/This shit is bananas/B-A-N-A-N-A-S". 21 - Counting cards pays off.

Advantages: An interesting story, more so because it is based upon fact.
Disadvantages: A bit predictable towards the end.

Even more so because the film is based upon fact. 21 is based on the book 'Bringing Down The House' by Ben Mezrich. What's it all about? The film is centres on the character of Ben Campbell played by Jim Sturgess. He is a student at MIT in Boston, who desperately wants to get into Harvard Medical School to become a doctor. The film opens with him being interviewed for a scholarship there, as paying is out of the question. The interview doesn't appear to be going so well, but then the story turns to Ben in maths class and here his natural ability shines. Advantages: excellent lyrics and a solid mix of sounds and ideas.
