Dehumidifier challenge 10l from Argos
Review of Challenge 10L Dehumidifier by Mamashango184

Advantages: Turns damp pongy condensation into fresh clean air
Disadvantages: none

...I sprung a leak in my bathroom, and was advised by a relative that a dehumidifier would help get rid of excess moisture from my bathroom. (my combi boiler had sprung a leak in nov 2006 and my gas man has now started to listen to me, now that I have damp on my walls!) Anyway, I reviewed many machines online and came across this one, it was one of the cheapest, and easiest to use. It cost £80 from Argos and although it was heavy at 12kgs, I managed to get it home on the bus! I plugged it in straight away and posistioned it in my bathroom. Within 90 mins I had half bucket of water, thats about a litre from my bathroom. The unit itself is very modern looking and does not take up much room, its whisper quiet and I would not have any problems with using this in a bedroom over night. It is very portable as it has a handle at the top... Read review

a dehumidifier dehumidifies
Review of Ebac 2600e Dehumidifier by iv3_b33n_r0bb3d

Advantages: dehumidifies
Disadvantages: it is hard to spell 'dehumidifies'

...I am refering to the 2650e model in the 2600 series What is a dehumidifier? A dehumidifier does what it is called, it dehumidifies. It is opposite from a humidifier (a more type friendly word), a humidifier puts moisture back into the atmosphere whereas a dehumidifier takes moisture away from the air. I would not think using a humidifier and dehumidifier together would be a good idea (you won’t make a difference apart from raising electricity costs). What are the benefits of a dehumidifier? It can take care of damp and mould matters. Removes moisture from the air that can cause health problems such as arthritis and rheumatism. Where does moisture in the air come from? Washing dishes The washing being hung up Showering Outdoor moisture What benefits does the ebac dehumidifier offer? Reduce pollen in atmosphere, helps with asthma... Read review

Good value dehumidifier
Review of Amcor - TC100 Dehumidifier by andy01

Advantages: Price, performance and convenience.
Disadvantages: Lack of humidistat, bulky/heavy to carry home.

...I recently bought an Amcor TC100 dehumidifier from b&Q. I was attracted to the product because of the price (only £108). Having purchased it I found it very easy to set up and use. It's performance was very good - clearing most ofthe damp mustiness from my flat within 24 hours (extracting over 3 litres of water). Naturally, in a larger home this would take longer (it is rated for houses with up to 3 bedrooms). The only drawback is that it does not have a humidistat (adjustable humidity control), but considering the price this is acceptable. I found the unit quiet and discreet in opperation, and think it would be ideal for anyone in a smaller home with ventilation problems. One finial thing - as the unit is quite heavy 16.5kg - it is ot a good idea to take it home on the bus (although it is possible!)... Read review

MY SHEETS ARE DAMP. MY HOUSE ISN'T
Review of Ebac 2400E Dehumidifier by thingywhatsit

Advantages: Helps keep humidity to a minimum
Disadvantages: None that I have found yet.

...Ebac have had a good reputation for years for dehumidifiers. I used to have one of their older models a long time ago, and when I researched their products against other brands, I found that the Ebac dehumidifiers won hands down. WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT A DEHUMIDIFIER ? Did you know that too much dampness in the air of your home can aggravate those illnesses that affect the joints and movement of the human body such as arthritis ? Did you know that if the air is moist in your home, this can increase heating bills because moisture absorbs heat and therefore makes your central heating work harder ? In this day and age where opening windows is not always an option because of the risk of burglary, dampness can actually occur and cause smells to your clothing and upholstery and damage to decoration of the house, such as peeling wallpaper... No more mouldy boots
Review of DeLonghi DEM10 Compact Dehumidifier by denella

Advantages: Avoids mould; helps dry washing
Disadvantages: Needs space both in front and behind

...One morning, pulling a pair of boots from under a chair in the corner of my bedroom, I was horrified to find them covered in mould. A few days before, I thought I had noticed a smell of mould as I came through the front door of my flat, but I had had no idea where it was coming from. From the time I moved into my flat, I had been aware that the plants didn't need watering as often as they used to, and washing did seem to take a long time to dry, even in summer. There was obviously a lot of moisture in the air; the boots could just be tied up in a bag and disposed of, but I didn't want to end up with mould growing on the walls and creating a health hazard. I decided to have a look at dehumidifiers and came across the Delonghi DEM10 Compact, available online at both John Lewis and Amazon at the price of £99.95. I didn't want to order... Read review

No more damp
Review of B&Q 10L Compact Dehumidifier by funkyjo

Advantages: It drys my clothes too!!!!!!!
Disadvantages: None

...What is a dehumidifier? --------------------------------- A dehumidifier is an appliance that removes moisture from the air. The usual technique used to remove the moisture from the air is to condense the moisture onto a cold surface. A dehumidifier is an air conditioner that has both its hot and cold coils in the same box. A fan in the appliance draws air from the room over the cold coil of the air conditioner to condense the moisture, which then drips into a bucket. The dry air then passes through the hot coil to heat it back up to its original temperature. ************************** Any one with a damp problem, or excess moisture, (you know when your windows are covered in condensation) should consider purchasing a dehumidifier. I purchased a dehumidifier as my bathroom was so damp... Read review

A good dehumidifier to use in a wet area
Review of Secco SuperThermo Wall Mount Dehumidifier by shricthism

Advantages: Easy to use, well made, has heating option, can be used it wet environment
Disadvantages: Maybe a little expensive

...If you have a problem with damp, or an area you need to ensure is kept dry then you will need a dehumidifier. They work by first chilling the air, like air conditioning. Cool air holds less moisture so the air is dried. Then the air is warmed up ( with recycled heat) back to the original temperature and so is emmitted a much the same as the original temperature , but lower humidity. The water is deposited in a tank, or can be drained outside if you wish. I bought this dehumidifier from Dry-it-out Ltd via their web site. It arrived quickly and was soon in use. It was supplied with a European plug so needed a UK three pin plug fitting - not sure this meets current UK regulations. Once plugged in operation is very straightforward. There are 5 modes each selected from one button on the front panel. These are; 1) Dehumidify ( to a selected... Read review

Amcor HD4E de-humidifier- its great
Review of Amcor - TC100 Dehumidifier by bobd

Advantages: easy to set up,very efficient
Disadvantages: bulky

...Living in an older house can have many problems, not least condensation and damp. Our heating bills were going through the roof, downstairs was warm enough during the winter months but upstairs was always cold with condensaton running down the windows every morning. Last winter we decided to buy a de-humidifier. After shopping around we found the amcor HD4E at argos at around £160.00 and free delivery. Setting it up was easy, just place it where you intend to use it and leave to settle for 24 hours. Next day plug it in and switch on. This model has two fan speeds and a variable humidistat. We ran it on the highest settings for a couple of days to start with and it was extracting an unbelievable 12 litres of water. After the first few days we lowered the settings, within a week the whole house was warmer, we even turned the heating... Read review

Drip, drip, drop
Review of Widetech 920 Dehumidifier by debrini

Advantages: no more drips, runs quietly, effective
Disadvantages: at £129 may be a little pricey for some

...running down the window and dripping off the window ledge!!! AH! so now you see the point of the whaffle. Yes we needed a dehumidifier to get rid of the water which was turning into Niagara falls and keeping me awake at night. So it was a trip off to B&Q. My parents had recently bought a dehumidifier for their cottage in Wales. As there was a problem with damp it was thought that a dehumidifier would help. Help it did taking nearly 6 pints of water out of the air each day!! So we decided to buy the same model as they had done, knowing how effective it could be. This was the WIDETECH WDH 920. The unit itself is fairly compact its about 2 foot high, a foot wide and a foot deep…sorry talking old money aren`t I!!! The air is taken into the unit by a fan, cooled inside and the water condensed and then stored in a 6litre removable tank... Read review
