...It is a long time since I was on a package holiday, having had so many historically poor experiences. It was a real pleasure to recast this mold when I travelled to Crete and stayed at the Panorama Hotel in Chania. We originally choose the resort and then the hotel. The locals drop the C and call it Hania is an amazing city. The Italian influence is every where, alongside the Greek and Turkish influences. The city is a melting pot of blending cultures, and the traveler who explores it has the pleasure of a rich experience. The Panorama hotel, is a modern hotel and is located along the coast from the city centre. It was very clean and comfortable. The airconditioning was working!!! Georgioupolis, Western Crete

Advantages: Long sandy beach, village feel, friendly locals, good base to explore
Disadvantages: Mosquitos can be a nuisance, maybe too quiet for teenagers

...Georgioupolis lies directly between Rethymnon and Chania on the North West coast of Crete. Despite several European tour operators bringing groups of tourists here throughout the summer months, the resort still manages to hold on to its fishing village atmosphere and is a good choice for a relaxing holiday. There are 9km of sandy beach, with crystal clear water, and sand dunes in places, so if all you want to do is sunbathe - no problem. If you like to explore the surrounding area, Georgioupolis is also a good base to discover the Western side of Crete. Great for girls/ lads holidays OR for couples and families

Advantages: A bit of everything, easily navigated, Beautiful, Great weather

...I've been to Crete twice now - once to the East side (Chania) and once to the West (Malia). It's amazing how such a small island can vary so much and if you hire a car, you can see a bit of everything. The weather us fantastic throughout the summer as it has never had rain before October or after February in recent history but be v=careful not to get burnt - the wind keeps temperatures down so you don't notice until its too late. Chania is very Greek and quite quiet, although the harbour area has plenty of bars and restaurants. The people are lovely and the scenery is breathtaking, particularly at sunset. The capital, Heraklion, has a great market and is close to the Palace of Knossos - the one place you have to visit. Malia, on the other hand is ideal for girls/ lads holidays - loads of bars (all the tourists are either English...

4 places not to miss when visiting Western Crete

Advantages: Hospital and Friendly people, affordable prices, excellent scenery
Disadvantages: None to my eyes

...I strongly believe that Crete and particularly its western side is one of the most beatiful places in the world. One of cousins, who spent most of his youth in the USA navy told me once that although he travelled all over the world, he couldn't find anywhere a place with such beauty and as friendly and hospitable people as in Crete. Good, but no goodie bags

Advantages: Smooth flight, nice enough staff, comfy seats

...We recently took a week out to Crete, staying in the Chania area (no doubt review will come at some point). The three and a half hour or so flight was with a company called Nordic Airlink, someone I'd never heard of (again). We took a quick look at their website before going, just to see what they were all about (www.flynordic.com, if you are interested). As you might expect, they are a scandinavian company, serving routes between Sweden, Norway and Denmark. I'd say they are definately a budget airline, judging from the prices - around £20 for a flight between Stockholm and Oslo for instance. We used their email to ask them about childrens goodie bags on the flight, and after a couple of weeks, they replied saying - none offered, but as of June they would - typical as we went last week of May. ...see. Michael is Anthony Quinn. His eldest Daughter is the Double of my (Brother/wife) Rob/Roz's dauther Emma. She was so alike that when Rob/Roz visited us for a couple of days, they were staying at Stallis the other End of Crete. The girl came round the corner of the Taverna and Ros said EMMA HOW DID YOU GET HERE. Geogioupolis is getting a busier resort than the first times we visited it. Oh how WE TOURISTS can take away what we are looking for. The Village Square is now surrounded by Comfortable Chairs in the Bars instead of the Basic Wooden Chairs of the old Kefinonian's. Remember in Bars the size of the BILL will be linked to the Size of the Cushions. BIG COMFATABLE CHAIRS equals PRICEY DRINKS. So in conclusion, I would say Book a Cheap a flight as possible to CHANIA, a small Airport 30 mins drive from TARRA. Go...

This review is mainly random ramblings of our thoughts and observations, perhaps a few tips and some fundamental useful info too, hope you don't find it too boring. Chania (also known as Hania) is an obvious destination for the tourist to visit. It's a mix of old and new, quite a busy place especially around the harbour area of the old part of town - where you'll find the famous Lighthouse. Crete overall

Advantages: Sightseeing, markets, weather, amenities, culture, friendly people, nightlife, food.
Disadvantages: Euro rate. Some places shut due to economy. Drivers.

...Welcome to Crete. Do you want to come for a relaxing holiday or to go crazy clubbing all night. You can do both on this island, but if you dont want drunken teenagers at all hours disturbing you do not go to Malia or some other areas where Club 18-30 or equivalent teenage holidays operate. Check with your tour operator first before your book. Also, if you have walking problems or small children, check that the hotels are not stuck up a hill as some in Hersonissos area are and pulling a pram up steps in heat is not much fun. Crete has a wide range of things to do and see. The beautiful scenic area of Elounda and Chania is for a quieter holiday. You can also visit Santorini on a day trip but beware that the boat can be a bit choppy sometimes and delayed. There is also the 'leper' island of Spinalonga, which is interesting...

...an active holidaymaker. I enjoy visiting places of interest, swimming and trying new things. I would like to try parascending, scuba diving, skiing and other sports but I am not very good at sports, but like my father I will try anything once (within reason). I have walked the Chania Gorge in Crete, walked the West Highland Way in Scotland, swum in a large rock pool on a private beach in Crete (after fishing for my lunch), and climbed the steps of the Eiffel Tower, in Paris. Q: Are you interested in the cuisine of a foreign country? Yes, what is the point in visiting a foreign country if you do not try their food, drink and experience their customs, culture and activities? Q: Which means of transportation do you prefer?
