Channel 5 Madness

Advantages: good fun, great presenter, some good songs and guests you get into the spirit of it
Disadvantages: the monkey, Danielle Nichols, mostly B-rated celebs

...Night Fever is on Channel 5 from 6:50pm til 7:45pm on Saturdays. It is great fun to watch, as it looks as if the people involved are loving every minute too. It is masterfully presented by Madness frontman and long-time stalwart of pop music, Suggs. He is assisted by the rather annoying Danielle Nichols of CITV fame. The show is basically a boys versus girls karaoke competition, where teams of often B-rated celebs compete against each other. Occasionally, you get someone interesting, but let's face it, you're more likely to get Kirsten O' Brien from CBBC or someone you vaguely recognise from an Australian soap opera. But this is Channel 5 after all and I doubt the budget for this programme is very high. ...Greed is Channel 5’s entry into the ‘big money’ quiz shows. Channel 5 does host some of its own quiz shows, but so far they have been pretty poor, Greed seems to make up for this. Channel 5 - At Least There's an Alternative

Advantages: Unique, alternative programs and viewpoint
Disadvantages: Doesn't fit everyone's tastes

...It would seem that everyone and their dog think that Channel 5 air nothing but filth and is completely useless. I have to disagree, as C5 air programs that the other networks wouldn't consider. They fund alternative material with topics and opinions that fall through the cracks at BBC et al. I can remember when the network was conceived as a copy of hugely popular Canadian Network City TV. City was and still is one of the most powerful media operations in Canada, all from a channel that was built on three pillars: News, Movies, Music. The C5 people added sport to that mix, but stayed quite faithful, even copying the newsroom and presentation style exactly. Is channel 5 this good

Advantages: Regular 9pm movies and a formal approach
Disadvantages: Advertisements in the middle of films

...Well where shall i start. When channel 5 first started, I had serious trouble getting a clean picture without the little white spots. But even still now i still get the spots. The only way i get a clear picture is if I watch it threw my sky. Well i think 5 is booming and should have a higher rating and more respect from the fellow channels. Why well let me point out. Its formal. even during the news there relaxed and even have a laugh at the end. The pre film sponsor clips are also very amusing. Just one question though. What did happen to lovely gerbil? CHANNEL 5 NEWS

Advantages: easy to understand
Disadvantages: on channel 5 so not everyone will be able to watch it

...Channel 5 news is probably, the next step up after you've watched newsround, but your still not ready to take on the BBC1 6oclock news. Like any other news station they give the latest news updates but in a way that is easy to understand and take in without it being patronising. For many news stories, they give you a top5 facts, which gives you a background to the subject mentioned. for example the other day I remember them doing the top 5 facts on the Real IRA. They also bring in news stories about well known celebrities as well as the political stories featured in all the other news broadcasts. My favourite part of the show is the Winners and Losers of the Day, the winners people who have had a successful day the losers, being people who have had days they wish they could forget....

The Cruel Channel 5

Advantages: ONE Good Program
Disadvantages: Drop Programs without warning

...Channel 5 is the cruellest and strangest channel on TV. They show good programs and then take them off for no apparent reason and replace it with a program which is guaranteed to get lower ratings than the program that was on before. One thing this channel does not do is advertising its programs to promote them. They do have some good programs but don’t promote them, then they don’t get very good ratings and then they just ditch the program without even trying to save it by promoting it. They have done this a lot now, I know of 3 programs they have done it with- Melrose Place, Beverly hills 90210 and Days of our Lives which had only been on 1 year and had no promotion and didn’t compare to the program that it replaced so it is being dumped on Wednesday April 25, 2001. Channel Five News

Advantages: Good presenters
Disadvantages: Some people still have difficulty getting Channel 5

...The Five news is on at various times. I tend to mainly watch the Lunchtime news at noon. It lasts for half an hour. However, the news bulletins are broadcast almost every hour (eg 8:55pm) which can be annoying during a film, I have to admit. They are actually called "News Updates" and the news is very brief. Perhaps 3 stories are quickly covered and they play this irritating music in the background. The evening news is on at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Kirsty Young - infamous for leaving Channel Five for ITV and then moving back again! - presents these in-depth looks at the latest stories. Charlie Stayt sometimes presents as well. ...Possibly justifiably Channel Five had the label of being the channel to watch if you were after a bit of pornograophy. However ass the channel becomes older to the airwaves the quality of programms it puts out gets better and better.
