Milk as Milk Should Be (Tesco Finest Channel Island Milk)
Advantages: delicious
Disadvantages: more expensive, slightly more calories
...£1.50 for 4l (2x 2l) bottles of Tesco Pure (own-brand Cravendale equivalent) filtered milk which I normally buy.
The biggest advantage is the taste. I find that gold top milk is too creamy to put in in my tea or coffee but great on cereals, and for pudding making purposes.
What about the health though? One of the dooyoo reviews is titled "die happy". Is Channel Island Milk as bad for you as it sometimes is declared?
Gold top milk has more fat than a standard full milk - 5.2g per 100ml instead of 3.6g (semi-skimmed has 1.6g, and I won't even mention skimmed, because it's such a dishwater than it's not even worth talking about). It's still only about 5% fat, though which is pretty low fat as far as food in general is concerned.
Due to the higher fat content, it has more clories: 161kcal in 200ml in comparison to 126kcal in...

Guernsey, Channel Islands
Advantages: Beautiful beaches, walks and lots of good food
Disadvantages: Difficult and often expensive to get to. Prone to fog at the airport.
...Although Guernsey is only 3 miles by 7, one end of the island differs greatly to the other. In the south, there are imposing cliffs that are easy to ramble on using the well maintained cliff path (often includes steep climbs) and towards the north are the flat plain lands where you can play golf or watch banger racing on one of the many beaches there. The beaches in the north and west are where you can surf, fly kites or just generally lie there and do nothing among many other activities, but if you want a sheltered little cove, the south west corner is the best.
The Postman Pat-like roads are sometimes a bit scary to drive on, but they all tend to end up somewhere that makes it worthwhile. The islands are full of neolithic burial mounds, some of which have been well maintained, with one having an original wall drawing.

Sark the Quiet Friendly Island
Advantages: Quiet,
Disadvantages: expensive, Don't get ill.
...While on holiday in Jersey last year, I went on a day trip to Sark; I was led to believe that this island is a quiet backwater in the vast hubbub of life, with the only transport by horse drawn carriages or by bicycle. On arrival at Sark harbour from Jersey using a fast catamaran boat service I found that this was nearly but not quite true. There was a tractor pulled train waiting to transport the passengers up a long steep hill to the main village in Sark, and while there is no motorcars or buses, there seemed to be a lot of tractors. (So much for no cars!).
The Island.
Sark itself is only about 1 ½ miles long and 1 mile wide with a small island (Little Sark) joined on at one end by a causeway, with a population of about 500. The direction signs do not give distances in miles or metres but in minutes, the length of time it...

Bargain shopping on a beautiful island
Advantages: Tax free shopping, better weather than England, You can use English money
Disadvantages: There own currency that you cant spend in England
...Jersey is a small island off the French coastline but dispite it's location is still part of the United Kingdom. It's perfect for a getaway from England without having to speak a different language.
*Getting There
As with all overseas places there are two ways to get there, by plane and boat. If you want to take your car to the island the only way to travel is by the condor ferries from either Weymouth, Poole or Portsmouth. You can also fly into the island from several of the UK's airports into the bright and clean Jersey airport. If you are taking your car beware that they have filter in junctions that we dont have in England. They do seem to keep the traffic moving freely though.
*Shopping
By far and away the best reason for going to Jersey is the shopping. As it is not in the EU all the things there are at duty and tax...

More to this island than potatoes
Advantages: easy to get to, no passports, tax free, pretty, friendly locals, nice hotels
Disadvantages: pricey to visit, pricey to shop
...I first went to this Island about 8 years ago. It was the last holiday I went on with my parents before getting married.
We flew to Jersey, it is a really nice flight and Jersey airport is so welcoming, small and friendly.
There is so much to do on this island for the whole family. Not much in the way of wild night clubs, but I believe there is a club of sorts somewhere near St Ouens.
We visited Gerald Durrell's Jersey Conservation Trust which was outstanding. Only the Cotswold Wildlife Park compares to this brilliant place. We saw the famous Gorilla - Jambo is it? Sadly he has since died.
There are pearl factories, brilliant herb garden to visit, parks and of course the shops. Jewellery, camera's, video's are particularly good value as Jersey is tax free.
It is odd when you hire a car and travel around, as some...

Guernsey-my roots- your holiday!
Advantages: Lots of history, great food.
Disadvantages: Too many cars. Quite expensive to travel to.
...My Channel Island roots are in my blood, and Guernsey will always be close to my heart and as an Islander, feel absolutely qualified to give a review on the little island I was brought up in.
I was brought up with Guernsey tomatoes, freesias, German Occupation history, the sandy beaches and the quiet cliff walks, (that still exist to this day).
The growing of tomatoes has gone now and the peacefulness is not quite as tranquil as I remember it. Having visited twice recently this year (2009) not for a holiday but due to a death in the family, I was still able to view the island and spot the changes! However, my opinion is based on what I remember in the past, and I need to whet your appetite to what it's like now!
Guernsey is the second largest of what is known as the Channel Islands situated about 12 miles off the coast of France...

Real Classy Place, shame about the airport staff
Advantages: Real Beautiful Place
Disadvantages: Airport Security Staff - not all of course
...Jersey is one of the Channel Islands, situated in the English Channel, in very close proximity to France. Even though the island is only 9x5 miles, it is the largest of the all the channel islands and its coast is an amazing 48 miles long.
The Culture
Jersey is a very 'cute' little place, despite it being the largest of the Channel Islands. There is a hint of french culture, this will have alot to do with its close proximity to France. Jersey is very much upper class and those wanting to take a break there, beware it is not cheap. I think this is due to the island wanting to attract the wealthy and not wanting 'just anyone' to help with the economy. There are alot of fish restaurants about, as of course alot of fishing is done in Jersey (dont forget the 48 miles of coastline). People are very polite in Jersey especially when it comes to...

Jersey, a spot in map
Advantages: very cool and exciting same time, beaches, people
Disadvantages: expensive, not recommended for non european
...Well to start with Jersey island, we heard about it while in India but never thought we would landed here for 3 months in summer 2008. But we are and very pleased to be here.
Location:
As many knows it is southmost part of UK, around 100 miles from UK and 7 miles from France. Largest of 4 channel island.
Connectivity:
You can either reach Jersey by air or sea. Though fares are not much different advance booking in flight might be cheaper sometimes for family. Flybe, Flybmi, British airways is most common airlines coming to Jersey with recently started of Easyjet. Average time of flying is 30 min to 1 hr.
Condor ferries is popular ferry service from UK to Jersey which take around 4 hours when there is good weather. HD ferries has recently shut down their business for Jersey.
History:
It is historical...

JERSEY, A LOVELY SUNNY HOLIDAY AND PEACEFUL
Advantages: quiet, 40 miles per hour speed limit, glorious beaches
Disadvantages: could be too quiet if you stayed too many nights?
...Jersey is an island that I have always wanted to visit. I went there for 1 day over 10 years ago, when I holidayed in France, and have always vowed to go back again. This year I finally made it and stayed at a hotel in St Helier (Merton Hotel, reviewed separately).
Jersey can be reached by ferry or plane. We took the fast catamaran from Condor Ferries at Weymouth, sailing at 7am on Sunday morning, arriving at 10.30am, and sailed back at 2.30pm on the Friday.
GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY
+++++++++++++++++++++++
Jersey is the largest of the four Channel Islands, the other largest ones being Guernsey, Herm, Sark and Alderney. Jersey is situated 100 miles from the south of mainland Britan and 14 miles from the coast of France. Its size is 9 miles by 5 and the island doubles in size when the tide goes out. Jersey is divided into 12...

Meeting Helen Mirren and adventurous times galore!
Advantages: Alot of things happening so you won't get bored reading this
Disadvantages: Quite a long read as so much happened
...Isn't it annoying when you go on holiday to a place you have never been before for 1 week and by the time you are approaching the end of that week you feel you are just starting to really get into the spirit of things, you've found out so much more that you feel you could do with another week. Well this was what it felt like when I went to Guernsey in August 2005.
I have written the majority of this review from my own experiences, rather than giving you lots of facts about Guernsey that you could read about in any travel guide.
INTRODUCTION
The Channel Islands consists of a group of 5 small islands: Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, Herm and Alderney. Guernsey is the second largest of these islands and is 24sq miles in size. St Peters Port is the main part of Guernsey and has a harbour there. It is at St Peters Port where me and my husband...
