Charlotte Bingham

Advantages: Interesting Person
Disadvantages: none

...Charlotte Bingham. Charlotte was born in Haywards Heath , her actual memories was not particularly there in West Sussex but at her grandparents home in Ireland where she was taken to by her Nanny when she was about three it was Bangor Castle in North Ireland. So this was where she had remembered mostly and also the influence of several of her novels where there settings were in large country houses. Her schooling was first of all in London then to a small school where she was born from the age of 6-16 years of age which was in the Sussex Downs which became an important part of her life particularly as she found she loved the sea and several of her books included the sea as well as the countryside. When she was sixteen she went to Paris and stayed on the Left Bank with a French family who were French aristocrats to learn...

Bingham on Bexham

Advantages: Pleasant, good characters, well written, satisfactory ending
Disadvantages: Some incongruencies, too many characters

...'The Moon at Midnight' is set in the 1960s, and starts by introducing the various families involved in the book, at the time of the Cuban crisis. The families all live in a British fishing port called Bexham. I was two at the time of the crisis, so don't have any memory of this, but the tension in everyone's minds becomes vividly clear at the beginning of the book, as we see the different ways that people are dealing with the possibility of another world war. Charlotte Bingham has quite a gift with characters - she creates mostly realistic individuals, and clearly knows them well. She writes about them as if she's personally acquainted with them; at one point I wondered if some of them were even based on real people. However the problem with having such a good background in an author's mind is that it can be overwhelming...

A grand affair.....but not in the romantic sense!

Advantages: A heartwrenching and fantastic read.
Disadvantages: Didn't flow as well until after she was adopted.

...After reading what seems to me, every vampire book available at present I was grateful for my work colleague Lyn?s ?lend?, a book that she stated as being an ?easy read?, and not a blood sucker insight! The book I will now review is - ?Grand affair by Charlotte Bingham? The story starts with a tragic scene, in a dilapidated little bedsit a young woman has just died in childbirth. Attending the scene is a midwife who is devastated at the idea that a woman would die in her area and on her shift and also a doctor who has been called to assist with the death certificate. After much deliberation it is decided that the baby, a little girl who appears to be fading fast, should be left with the local areas ?Mrs Mac?, an Irish lady who has designated herself the mother of the slums, and who has always got a crust of bread or a cup...

Binghams Beef Spread - Still as tasty after 20 years!

Advantages: Thick and Smooth
Disadvantages: May only be found 'Up North'

...Looking back on my childhood, I remember my mum giving me 'potted meat' sandwiches, which were my favorite for as long as I can recall. I grew up just around the corner from the Bingham's factory in Sheffield. and passed it almost every day on my way to school. I am only 22 now, but i'm sure 'potted meat' is a fond memory of many generations, as Binghams have been making Beef spread from the same Sheffield factory since 1914. I always thought of 'potted meat' as some sort of local delicacy - perhaps in the same way as Henderson's Relish, made from the same factory in Sheffield for over 100 years. I'm still not sure if this delicious meat paste has made it out of Yorkshire - If you've never seen it, and ever travel to Sheffield, I'd strongly reccomend you buy some. I'm not a big fan of the kind of sandwich paste that comes in a little...

Still singing

Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: There aren't ant I don't think

...Well, here we are again then? Another book op from yours truly. I’ve just completed this book and thought it best to write this while its still fresh in my mind, here goes……….. The Author ~ A well known novelist, Charlotte Bingham wrote her first book at the age of nineteen. It was her autobiography!! Since then, with help from her husband, actor and playwright Terence Brady, she has penned comedy and drama series, plays and films for both England and the States. It is her most recent novels that has brought her the most acclaim though ~ ‘Love Song’, ‘To Hear a Nightingale’, ‘In Sunshine or in Shadow’, ‘The Business’,’ Nanny’, ‘Stardust’, ‘Debutantes’, ‘Grand Affair’, ‘Blue Note’ - her latest offering...

Coming Out in the 1890s

Advantages: Charming characters
Disadvantages: Daisy Langford (see review)

...'Debutantes' is a fine example of Charlotte Bingham at her best. It forms the first of two novels following Emily Persse and Portia Tradescant, and their experience in London society in the 19th century. During this period in England, there was The Season, a time when all eligible young ladies were sent on a round of balls and parties for the sole purpose of getting a husband and making a respectable name for themselves, which was known as Coming Out. Emily, Portia and May Danby are of age to Come Out, though not particularly by their own want but that of their family. 'Debutantes' follows them as they are forced to change their ways from those of the quiet English countryside, relaxed Irish lifestyle and Yorkshire convent, to that of the competitiveness of the London Season, encouraged by their equally different chaperones...

Review of Good Morning Revival - Good Charlotte

It would take a great deal to crush me, said Charlotte

Advantages: Thought-provoking and original in its portrayal of the subject
Disadvantages: A little over-analytical in the later stages

...It is hardly surprising that the lives of the Brontë sisters (and brother) have attracted so many biographers, and the story of their short existences and premature deaths has been told many a time. Where this new account by Lyndall Gordon differs from what has already been published is in exploring Charlotte's life from a more feminist viewpoint than that of the apparently downtrodden novelist, who in the words of her contemporary and first biographer Mrs Gaskell was ?a valiant woman made perfect by sufferings.? Naturally the life takes up a good proportion of the book. Gordon paints the familiar, unhappy picture well ? the family growing up in unhealthy Haworth on the Yorkshire moors, where there was polluted water and no sewers, and where the average life expectancy was around 25. She leads the reader through the early deaths of Mrs...

Bad Charlotte

Advantages: Take The CD out of its case and it will make a good frisbee
Disadvantages: You could take somones eye out with the frisbee

...Having known of Good Charlotte for quite a while and finding some of there previous material quite good I don?t know what I expected from this album. But I didn?t expect an album full of the same beat, standard guitaring and lyrics which are just lacking inspiration(Even if thy do have meaning). GC are one of the bands which have largely promoted pop punk(along with the likes of busted) and not the good kind of pop punk either(Like Not By Choice and New Found Glory) but the kind of pop punk which has a fan base of 12 year old girls who scream for the front man and think they are right rebels for listening to this kind of music. The singing is this album is very exaggerated, the singers voice has become a lot more annoying then it was in the previous album. The lyrics seem to have meaning and in a couple of songs the lyrics are...
