...Charlotte's Web is an American family film released in the United Kingom on February 9th 2007. It is based on the book Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. The film was directed by Gary Winwick and stars Dakota Fanning. Running time of the movie is ninety seven minutes. The story is based on the life of a young pig named Wilbut. When little girl , Fern's dad plans on killing the piglet because he is the smallest piglet in the litter , Fern steps in , in order to try and save the life of the little pig ; promising to care for him herself. Fern then keeps little Wilbut as a pet ; allowing him in the house. When the piglet is too pig to keep as a pet , Fern's parents insist that he has to go ; they then come up with the idea of Wilbut going to live in Fern's uncles barn on the farm next door. A web of friendship and love

Advantages: An endearing, wonderful film with a great message
Disadvantages: It made me cry :-(

...I love animals; I carried out my year 10 work experience in a veterinary surgery, but decided it wasn't for me when the staff tried to comfort me after a puppy died...I cried for over an hour. I am one of those weird people who would much rather give my money to an animal charity than a human charity. I trust animals more than I trust more humans. I know that they will not tell my secrets to others, tell me I am getting fat or that I can't do this or that properly. In a way I could be compared a lot to Fern in the film. When I saw this film advertised in the cinema I knew it was going to be a sad one. As a child at school we did a project on E.B White's book, Charlotte's Web. Weaves a Web of Joy amd Sadness

Advantages: excellent prose, well developed characters, life affirming themes
Disadvantages: sensitive children may cry when a main character passes

...While many people may be familiar with E.B. White's stories, Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little, thanks to recent blockbuster films, they may not be aware that these stories were indeed books first. They are well worth the read, for no matter how good a film is, the books themselves have subtle messages that cannot be translated into cinematic experiences. E.B. White's prose alone is something that would be a tragedy for any person to miss, and the books speak well to the hearts of children, teens, and adults, earning themselves a place in literature rather than mere popular fiction. Charlotte's labour Of Love

Advantages: Some seriously goods lessons to be learn't.
Disadvantages: None that I can see, except the need for a hanky!

...What a deprived childhood I must have had, for I cannot remember reading any book back then, that was ever as enthralling and enchanting as 'Charlottes Web'. Of course I had heard of it, just never read it. So when I came across it in the book store, I decided to read it. O.K, at nearly 32 years old, you may be thinking I'm a little too old for children books, but not so. To read a book like this was like a breath of fresh air, and even had a profound effect on me, as I shall explain later. So what's it all about? Fern Arable is a little girl who lives with her parents and her brother Avery on a farm somewhere in America. The book opens with Mr Arable going off to the 'hoghouse' with an axe, to 'do away' with the runt of a litter of pigs born during the previous night. Oh what a tangled web we weave....

Advantages: Talking animals, underlying themes of great substance (!)
Disadvantages: None, it's a masterpeice.

...It saddens me that 256 people have reviewed Chicken Run, but before this no-one has commented on Charlotte's Web. It might be a bit long in the tooth (trotter? Fang?) , but it's a classic story, and the animated version is available on video, (or if you wait , probably on TV over a school holiday) and it's a good one. For anyone who doesn't know the story, it's about a pig who befriends a spider (Charlotte). The spider in its wisdom helps the Pig come to terms with its life and through listening to and watching the spider, the pig (and the viewer) gain an insight into the cycle of life, the value of individuality and how important and wise talking spiders really are. Okay , it won't change your life unless you are under ten, but I would recommend it highly to anyone with younger children, but be warned, the ending, though...

...Charlotte?s Web Charlotte?s Web was firstly a book written by E. B. White and this is one book I can remember reading and re-reading over and over again when I was younger. I enjoyed it so much as the characters were brought to life by the author and I was ecstatic when the cartoon film came out for me to enjoy as well. Now many years later they have made it in to a motion picture and it has been recently released out on to DVD this week. Seeing as the weather has been so bad I sent out my boyfriend to pick this DVD up while he spent the day at a friends so I could watch it uninterrupted on my own. Watching the DVD certainly did bring back lots of good memories for me, as this film is an exact remake of the cartoon version and so much like the book that I read repeatedly. Disadvantages: It's somewhat predictable.

SPIDERY WRITING

Advantages: Fantastic real life and animated animals, success of small things
Disadvantages: Over sweet story, too identifiable voice talents, realistic rat, flat characters

...of animals and would love to have such a pet to look after. This is more likely to end up as a dog rather than a pig but the basic premise is the same. As he grows and Fern starts to get into trouble concerning the ways she looks after him, he is moved to her uncle?s barn across the field. There, Wilbur makes new friends with the animals in the barn such as the sheep, geese, rat and most importantly the spider, called Charlotte. He is so nice with everyone and shows how easy it can be to make friends by being complementary to someone else. In this case, he keeps on saying ?Great name!? when he meets someone new. He is such a kind, innocent animal that it is easy to see why he is so likeable. Unbeknownst to him, his friendly treatment of the supposedly horrible, ugly spider is the key to his very existence.
