So often you are looking for the perfect sandwich filling, something for a change and Dairylea fits the bill perfectly. I really enjoy the taste of Primula cheese spread but at around £1.20 for a smallish tube it works out far more expensive than Dairylea., but Primula do make the tastiest cheese and chive spread. up until quite a while ago I often used to purchase Lidl`s cheese spread triangles, I am sure the circular box held 24 thick creamy triangles that used to cost £1.30, Lidl must have decided that they were worth far more and when I last looked at the price they were £1.90! A CRACKER OF A CHEESE SPREAD

...I was stuck for something to eat, and not feeling too energetic, so I had a nose round the cupboards and fridge and found this dairylea cheese spread. I remember buying it a few days ago, then forgetting all about it, so I was quite pleased it was just what I needed as a quick snack. I love this on crusty bread all soft and creamy, and not too sharp just mild enough for me. I was still chomping on this when my sister arrived with my nephew, who made a beeline for the fridge so I tried him with some dairylea on cream cracker. He loved it. my sister meanwhile was tucking into big doorsteps of it on crusty bread, good job the tub was a big one. This is also very nice on sandwiches if you are going out for the day, and I know my mom used to put it on dad's when he went to work. The tub is a 200g size,and it's bright blue...

Squeezable Primula Cheese!

Advantages: Lots of flavours, good design, attractive packaging, real pieces of ham, good source of calcium.
Disadvantages: None.

...rimula cheese spread is available in several varieties (smoked cheese, cheese, cheese and chives, cheese & ham & cheese and shrimp). I have tried most varieties and my favourites are the cheese & chives and cheese & ham variety. They are available from £1.13-£1.17 in Tesco stores and this is for a 150g squeezable tube. The tubes are thicker at the top than the bottom and they each have a picture of what is mixed with the cheese and the blue Primula logo and a blue screw top. Once the top is removed there is a foil fresh tab which keeps the product fresh until you open it and helps ensure that it has not been tampered with. I really like products with this feature as it's makes me feel confident that nobody has messed around with my product on the supermarket shelf. ...It has been a good few years since I last tried Primula Cheese Spread, in fact I guess that it is probably as long ago as when I still lived at home, I had almost forgotten about its existence but having spotted some recently in my local Asda I am afraid I couldn't resist the temptation. Primula is a cheese spread which comes in a tube rather like a tube of toothpaste or tomato puree, the idea being that you squeeze the cheese onto your bread or cracker, it is a nice idea and a little bit different from scraping a soft cheese spread out of a tub. What is even better is that the hole at the end of the nozzle which the spread is squeezed through is a multi-faceted star shape one so the spread comes out in a nice star shaped blob. Laughing Cow Is Now 'The Big Cheese'

Advantages: Fast healthy food for kids, helps to increase calcium intake.
Disadvantages: Blink and the triangle is gone!

...Laughing Cow Cheese Triangles As my children are terrible when it comes to drinking milk, I am always trying other sneaky ways to get that calcium intake up. These are individually wrapped cheese spread triangles and have challenged Dairylea, which seemed to be the big cheese (groan!) when I was growing up. I like these triangles as they are big and chunky, as opposed to some other brands. By the time you get the fiddly foil off these, there doesn't seem much spread there - not so with the Laughing Cow! ***The Taste*** They are stored in a round cardboard container and when you peel the foil off a portion, it comes away easily with little mess. You'll be grinning 'cheese' to theese!

Advantages: Creamy, soft, quality, REALLY low fat and calories
Disadvantages: I can't open the damn packaging

...soft cheese that is low fat. I always opt for the low fat versions because I don't like anything that tastes of pure cream. Full fat soft cheese, in my opinion, is very heavy and sickly. The reason for me being skeptical howeverm is due to the tendancy of these cheeses being very watery. For example, Asda's brand of low fat soft cheeses basically begin to 'leak' water after opening; NOT so with these triangles. The cheese is incredibely chunky and firm, just like the other versions if you're familar with them. I can push my knife through the cheese smoothly and it sticks nicely to the knife, enabling me to spread it across my toast nice and thick. They are very sticky; not watery at all and this isn't a criticism in my opinion, it just makes it easier to pick up and spread and what's more, it isn't sticky when you eat it. I like the cheese...

Cheese - what's to laugh about?

...I recently got given a few tubs of laughing cow cheese from a family friend. It's a random thing to receive, that's for sure! The reason being that it was on offer in sainsbury's (I'm told it is usually quite expensive!) so, they'd stocked up. Cheese being cheese, it had a sell by date, so it turned out to not be quite so econimical...! Anyway, I like a cheese spread for my ryvita or crackers. I usually go for a lower fat version (this is pretty high fat), but I'll give anything a go! This came in a round cardboard pot, with two layers of cheese triangles (very similar to dairylea). there were about six triangles per layer, so 12 per pot. The picture on the front is a cartoon cow - laughing of course! The foil on the triangles was quite hard to open. It has a tag to pull but I found it pretty messy and it invariably took...

...Another product that my mum used to buy regularly when I was small, but that I hadn't even considered buying again until I read lorrmid's opinion on it last week! Primula is a cheese spread produced by Kavli, a Norwegian company based in....urm...Tyne & Wear. It is available, I believe, in five varieties, these being Original, Chive, Garlic, Ham and Shrimp. Personally, I've only tried the original and the ham versions, but I've heard that the others are just as good. The product comes in 150g tubes, and looks rather like toothpaste, although I seriously doubt it would have the same beneficial effect on your teeth, and probably wouldn't make you smell as good either. Digression aside, a tube of Primula will set you back between 95p and about £1.30, depending on whether you buy it from a large supermarket or a smaller shop...
