Chester Zoo
Advantages: Great day out
Disadvantages: None
...This past weekend I also had the opportunity to go to Chester Zoo and what a great day out we had. I haven't been to the zoo in years but my best friend moved up here a few years a ago and has a season ticket so she suggested going and I though it was a great idea.
Funnily enough Chester zoo is located in Chester in the north west of England. Chester is not a very big place and the zoo is located fairly near the centre of town so it is very easy to find and very well sign posted.
The zoo was opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and is the biggest zoo in the UK. According to their brochure hand out that you receive with your tickets, the park covers 110 acres of gardens, has 7,000 animals and over 400 different species.
When we arrived at the zoo it was nice to find that they had free parking. We went on a Sunday and it was quite...

Visiting Chester zoo
Advantages: Fantastic day out with lots to do
Disadvantages: Cannot do everything in one visit
...Firstly let me tell you a bit about Chester Zoo.
Chester Zoo is run by the North of England Zoological Society which was founded in 1934. The North of England Zoological Society is a registered charity that operates Chester Zoo and also receives Government funding. Chester Zoo is now one of the largest zoos in the UK and employs about 250 permanent staff with about another 150 seasonal workers. Today Chester is more than a Zoo as they are heavily into conservation rather the just having the animals for us to stare at.
Chester Zoo covers an area of about 100 acres and was founded in 1930 by George Mottershead. George kept the zoo going during the 2nd World War which was followed by a rapid expansion and the foundations of what Chester zoo is today where laid. Initially the Zoo was well know for the designs of their...

Adopt an animal at Chester Zoo
Advantages: cheap, plenty to do, entertainment for everyone.
Disadvantages: a very long day.
...Chester Zoo is an exciting experience that you will always remember, the zoo is the UKs number one Zoo and is situated close to the historic city of Chester.
This zoo set in 110 acres of gardens, in this stunning setting of over 7000 animals, more than 400 of these species of rare, exotic and endangered wildlife.
Chester Zoo's gardens are famous with different garden areas representing different regions and plants. They provide a glorious surrounding to the animals and reflect the natural habitats of some of our most exotic species.
That averaged that every year at Chester Zoo's animals eat their way through over £200,000 worth of food, so the zoo run special programs to help raise this money to feed the animals.
LOCATION
The zoo itself is very easy to get to, as it is in easy reach of the major motorway networks in...

An amazing day out at Chester zoo
Advantages: So much to see and do
Disadvantages: None
...I am very much an animal lover and I've visited many zoo's over the years but Chester zoo was one zoo which I hadn't been to so when we went on holiday to Wales I knew we had to visit. It was about an hours drive away from where we were staying in Wales, there was plenty of sign posts to it so was quite easy to find.
We arrived at the zoo at 11am, I would suggest you arrive at the opening time (10am I think) as there is so much to see, the day simply isn't long enough even though it closed at 6pm. It was £16.50 for an adult ticket and about £12 for a child I think during the summer.
On arrival there were toilets at the entrance which is fantastic as usually you have to stand and queue for a ticket before searching all over for the toilet. Once paid they give you a map of the zoo and a sheet which has all the times...

The Grosvenor Museum, Chester
Advantages: Free admission, plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: Not fully accessible to disabled visitors
...Chester is a city steeped in history that dates back to the Roman times and beyond so it is not surprising to learn that it has a large museum to serve the purpose of showing off its rich heritage. In fact Chester has several different specialised museums like DEWA the Roman museum and the Military Museum but the Grosvenor Museum is by far its largest museum.
I suppose that it would be fair to describe the Grosvenor Museum as Chester's general museum. It is housed within an impressive Grade 2 listed building right in the heart of the city centre and since admission is free it's a great starting point for any visitor to the city to learn about its past. It opened in 1886 with its full title that it still holds today, which is rather a mouthful; The Grosvenor Museum of Natural History and Archaeology, with Schools of Science and Art...

Chester best...
Advantages: Location; giant breakfasts
Disadvantages: Smaller rooms than I was expecting
...We stayed here with the Tesco clubcard scheme last December and thoroughly enjoyed it.
HOTEL LOCATION/DESCRIPTION
The hotel is located immediately next to the Park & Ride for Chester Centre. This meant that we could leave our car in the hotel car park and walk the 50 metres to the park & ride. What an excellent location - it couldn't be more better placed for visitors to the city - no trying to park in the centre and getting lost!
The hotel itself has had a fairly recent renovation and comprises a medium sized car park (I would imagine that it fills up before the hotel does given how busy it was when we arrived) and a stunning front elevation to the hotel. Very modern looking and gives a great first impression. Upon entering the hotel you immediately walk into a large open plan space which comprises a bar; seating area...

Chester
Advantages: Great Torist Attraction
Disadvantages: Isnt One
...Chester was founded By the romans many years ago (I can't find exactly when, in either books or on the net). From what started off a small market place, gathered over the years to become a hugely visited city. Located in the north West of england, just on the welsh Border.
Shopping
~~~~~~~~
The main shops are located in or around the city Centre. It has a vast range of stores as well as well known high street brands, such as HMV, boots etc. One shop i would reccomend, is the old sweetshop, located opposite Chester Cathedral. One thing, you'll notice about chester is, most companies have atleast two shops in the city, so your never far away from the shop you need.
While on your shopping spree, visit the little shops, such as corner shops etc, as you'll find some of the cheaper products in them.
A Cestrian's View of Chester
Advantages: Rich in history, lots to do rain or shine
Disadvantages: Expensive parking, busy in high season
...I lived in Chester for 26 years before I got married and moved to North Wales, and would like to give my view on this ancient town. My review is aimed at tourists from all walks of life, of all ages and with various tastes in what they look for when visiting a town for the first time.
**A Little Background Information**
As soon as the name 'Chester' is mentioned, the first thing that springs to peoples' minds is the Romans. The Romans built the town in AD71 and named it 'Deva'. They built the famous Roman wall which surrounds the town, and which is still more or less in tact today. The town overlooks the River Dee.
I won't bore readers with the full history of Chester because this review is intended on giving information of what the town has to offer to tourists today. The town is chock full of museums and historical...
The History of Chester
Advantages: Massive culture and historical importance, Beautiful sights, Growing all the time
Disadvantages: Rising cost of living, The odd vagrant bothering people
...Rather than write about how Chester is now, I decided to take a different approach and give you a history of the city from day one to present day. admittedly, the history is quite sketchy, but I found it quite difficult to find more detail than is already included. Naturally, any further information on the topic would be gratefully received, and if I manage to find anything else out for myself, I will also add that. Due to difficulties in finding information, I found it easier to write the review in a chronological order of date (sorry if it seems to jump about a bit!!). anyway, back to the subject of my review.
In AD 43, Roman emperor Claudius visited the site that was later to become Chester, during the third invasion of Britain. At this time London was founded. In the year of AD 74 , Chester was originally founded as the Roman...
