THE CHICKENS THAT HATE ME!!!

Advantages: eggs, interesting pets, fertilise your garden,

...I am not a big chicken fan apart from when its part of my Sunday roast. However, upon moving to the country my mum decided to turn her garden into something that strongly resembles 'The Good Life'. With various vegetable patches and a herb garden, the next logical step was apparently chickens!! Purchasing the Chickens Chickens vary massively in cost and with so many options, we eventually settled on purchasing a kind of "package" which included the chicken house, run and three chickens for around £390. This seems like a lot of money to me but apparently not seeing as most chicken houses (the properly built ones that foxes cant get into) cost around this anyway. The house and run that we purchased was the 'eglu' which is sold by a company called Omlet and is easy to clean and a good secure design too. It took a week or so...

Chick-chick-chick-chick - Chicken!!

Advantages: Great to watch, they lay eggs for you, gives battery hens a decent life
Disadvantages: Hutch etc can be expensive, need quite alot of room

Chickens- my experience

...Oringinally i decided to get some chickens in order to use them as brooding hens to hatch someof my quail eggs. The first lot of chickens i got were from a hatchery my aunt works at, whrethe chicks are bred for their meat. These were delightful chicks who would sleep in my bathroom at night (as well as on my chest during the day) When they were very small- about up to 2 weeks old i let them run around my living room for about an hour a day, but as they got bigger, so did their poos. This was when i put tem in a large cardboard box, still in the living room for an hour a day, they have to be kept indoors untill their feathers grow, and let me tell you, it is quite funny watching them change from tiny yellow chicks to oversized yellow chicks, to chick with only wing feathers. You can buy these in a few different flavours, but it is the Roast Chicken ones i'm reviewing. These are manufactured by Mattessons, most famous for the great Smoked Sausages! I think these have roughly been out for the last couple of years and are generally found in the cold meat area of a shop. So what are they? Well the bag is 65g. The are knobbly bits of Roast Chicken roughly the size of half a middle finger - I measured especially for this review!
