Pataks Chicken COMA
Advantages: Not many
Disadvantages: Quite a few
...Well for my prequel to my 50th opinion I thought I’d return to the fray by getting paid for it.
And yes, RICE BOY (private joke with some of the Ciao ladies) is back in full swing with another curry opinion.
After my overwhelming success with my last frozen curry, the Noon Chicken Masala, I decided to try out one of the better known brands, Pataks.
Pataks original Chicken Korma with Basmati rice to be exact.
If I enjoyed the no-named Noon curry so much then surely I would love this brand name one even better, especially as the box boasts that it is made with 100% chicken breast (No laughing Mel).
Well I didn’t, in true Deano style, here are my findings.
* PACKAGING *
Pataks original is apparently as true to the ‘authentic Indian recipes’ as you can get.
The cardboard box is designed like a true...

Korma Korma Korma Korma Korma curry sauce
Advantages: Low fat, quick and easy to use
Disadvantages: Lacking in creaminess
...- which for a creamy sauce with added almonds didn't sound too bad to me.
On opening the sauce there was a distinctive korma smell and the sauce was a deep yellow colour and I could see the flakes of almonds in it.
The sauce was extremely easy to use, it simply needed to be poured over the meat, fish or vegetables used ( I served mine with chicken) and simmered gently until cooked.
INGREDIENT
If you are intolerant to nuts or milk, both are present in this item. The spices used are cumin, ginger, coriander, turmeric, garam Masala, paprika and cardamom, there is also preservatives, sesame seeds, almonds, cream, coconut milk and lemon juice.

Delicious chicken korma
Advantages: Vegetarian or prawn alternative available
Disadvantages: Time for marinating
...This is the easiest Chicken Korma recipe I have come across and its delicious!
Serves 4
Ingredients:
About 1.5kg to 2 kg of chicken breasts cut into small cubes
2 medium sized onions, chopped finely
2 fresh red chilli, finely chopped (take out the seeds if you dont want it to be too hot)
1 teaspoon of Garam Marsala
75g of coconut milk
some ground almonds (about 2 to 3 tbsp)
Olive oil for cooking
For the marinade:
large tub of Greek strained yogurt
1 tbsp tumeric
1 tsp ground corriander
1 teaspoon ground ginger
pinch salt and pepper
1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
Naan Bread
Ready made pilau rice
Firstly marinade the chicken cubes in the marinade, cover the dish and marinade in the fridge for around 4 hours or overnight.
Add oil to a pan and cook the onions with the chillies on a low heat stirring...

Blander than a Bad Chicken Korma
Advantages: A couple of nice moments
Disadvantages: It's exceptionally bland
...the story is going as soon as Lisa appears. There are too many long lingering glances that give the storyline a soap operatic predictability. What the film lacks most of all though is any real sense of tension. Nina isn't fighting against anyone to make her own way in the world. If her family were more vociferous in their opposition to her entering the competition or of her lifestyle choice, then there would be greater dramatic impetus. Consequently there isn't enough variation of emotional states for the actors. It's clear where they're going from the outset and they never deviate one iota from their planned trajectory. Everyone may have a secret, but they're revealed in such underwhelming fashion that they fail to be exciting. There's no sense of time passing; the only indicators we get are the irritating "Radio Korma" announcements that have...

A Taste of India
Advantages: Delicious!
Disadvantages: None
...One of my favourite dishes is chicken korma and pilau rice. I am not a fan of very spicy Indian dishes, but chicken korma normally fits the bill perfectly as it is not overly strong.
On a recent shopping trip to Morrisons, I saw a their own brand Chicken Korma & Rice meal sitting temptingly in the chiller section next to the Chicken Tikka Marsalas. On closer inspection, I saw that it was only £1.49 for a 400g pack! A bargain, I thought, and popped it in the trolley.
♦♦♦ PACKAGING ♦♦♦
The packaging is immediately enticing, due to the striking red, yellow and purple used. The front of the sleeve is dominated by a big picture of chicken korma in a silver dish. This is set against a blurred background of purple and violet. To the right of the picture is a vertical strip, again in purple...

Am I really going to eat this vomit?
Advantages: Life span on tin is ages
Disadvantages: Very bland flavour
...Many of you who have read my reviews are aware that I do like a variety of spicy foods and this review is no exception.
I was wandering around Sainsburys this time and as I?ve previously said this is a pastime that is not that appealing to me. I do believe there are better things to do with ones time.
I have previously bought many curries that are in cans, but had not seen Chicken Korma before and thought that this would be ideal as the expiry date would be good.
The stamp on the bottom of the tin saying that the product was ok until March 2006 proved this.
As you can see this is Sainsburys own make and like I said it is supplied in a tin can. (Made of steel)It had a ring pull so I did't need to hunt for my tin opener.
The tin had a picture on the outside and obviously writing to describe that in the container was...

THE CHICKENS THAT HATE ME!!!
Advantages: eggs, interesting pets, fertilise your garden,
Disadvantages: take a lot of care, smell, they only lay for 4 years
...I am not a big chicken fan apart from when its part of my Sunday roast. However, upon moving to the country my mum decided to turn her garden into something that strongly resembles 'The Good Life'. With various vegetable patches and a herb garden, the next logical step was apparently chickens!!
Purchasing the Chickens
Chickens vary massively in cost and with so many options, we eventually settled on purchasing a kind of "package" which included the chicken house, run and three chickens for around £390. This seems like a lot of money to me but apparently not seeing as most chicken houses (the properly built ones that foxes cant get into) cost around this anyway. The house and run that we purchased was the 'eglu' which is sold by a company called Omlet and is easy to clean and a good secure design too. It took a week or so...

Spice of life (Pataks Original Korma Curry Paste)
Advantages: Tasty, Good value, Consistent, Versatile
Disadvantages: Slightly greasy at times
...I have always enjoyed curry and for many years I have made currys using a ready made sauce. I guess as I have got older and more health conscious I have started making my own and frequently use this curry paste as a base for my recipes.
The jar holds 290 grams of paste which is of thick consistency and mildy spiced, predominatntly with korma and coriander. The jar itself is of nice design with the familiar Pataks look.
This paste has a great flavour, mild yet still undeniably curry flavoured. It works well in curry dishes but I also use it in other dishes such as Mulligatawny soup, or spread over chicken fillets prior to grilling.
The paste is slightly gritty in texture and also has an oily element which makes it wise to stir it up well before use.
I have tried other pastes but keep coming back to this one for it...

A good Curry in a hurry......
Advantages: Good Quality and Taste
Disadvantages: None
...Sainsbury's Chicken Korma with Pilau Rice (new and improved)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have to confess that I am a the great lover of Indian Cuisine ,but sometimes I see a new products in the supermarkets to replace the take away menu and relieve some of the costs of a take away, so when I came across this New and Improved Chicken Korma with Pilau Rice, I just had to try it.
Upon a visit to Sainsbury's a while ago I found that they have now updated there range of frozen Indian Cuisine ready meals and that the Chicken Korma with Pilau Rice is one of the new and improved products. I could not help myself I had to try one.
About the Product.
Sainsbury's sell these in the frozen ready meal aisle and they are priced £1.85 each or you can buy four and save £1.00. You do not need to buy...
As Good As Any Restaurant Curry.
Advantages: Nice Tasting, Quick To Cook.
Disadvantages: High in Sugar and Fat, Not Safe For People With Nut Allergies.
...The first thing that made me buy this product was the price. It was on offer at Kwik Save for 99p. Now come on, that’s a bargain, and I love a bargain. I’d not bought this range before and sometimes frozen curries have a synthetic taste so I only bought one to start with.
The Box ~ Bright cerise and blue colours with a delicious looking Korma and rice on the front. It also says made with 100% chicken breast and that’s better than the browny pieces you get from the legs and wings. There are 400grams in the box and this is just enough for one.
Sell By Date ~ was October 2004 so plenty of time there. It is a frozen product of course so needs to be in the freezer. It does state for best results cook from frozen.
Ingredients ~ Cooked Basmati Rice 36%
Chicken 20%
Water, Cream 7%
Then Creamed coconut...
