BBC1 - losing their grip?

Advantages: Best soap, news and sport at the moment
Disadvantages: Losing bits every year when money becomes more and more involved

...What is there that can be said about BBC1 these days? First they lost Des Lynam to ITV, now they have lost Match of the Day in its old form to ITV. They need to come back on track. Until the recent excellent cricket coverage on Channel 4, there is no doubt that BBC1 had a stronghold on almost all sports in terms of the quality of their presenters and their coverage. Currently the Sydney Olympics is being handled remarkably well by the BBC, on both 1 and 2. The sad thing is, soon all that will be left of this will be news, darts and table-tennis if they carry on in this vein....

Nurofen for Children

Advantages: A great pain relief for children
Disadvantages: None

...My 6 year old son has been prone to ear infections since the age of two years old. He really suffers when an infection strikes and we have had nights where he has literally been screaming in pain all night. I rang my local Primary Care unit but they refused to see him until he'd had the pain 24 hours! They recommended that I keep him warm, comfortable and give him regular doses of Calpol alongside Nurofen for Children if possible. I regularly gave him Calpol when an ear infection occured, but it didn't seem to touch the sides with him with this kind of pain. However, I had never tried Nurofen before so sent the other half out to get some. ~The Product~ Nurofen Medicine for children is supposed to be the strongest medicine on the market that is suitable for children of a young age. Forget ITN News - BBC1 have it sorted

Advantages: Excellent news readers, reports and coverage, same time every night
Disadvantages: Not on at 9pm any more

...I was angered when BBC1 moved their main news programme from 9.00 p.m. to 10 p.m. I was used to the news at 9 and was happy with it there. Luckily for the BBC, the 10 o'clock news has proved to be very informative and the format well thought out. The link to the local news at 10.25 p.m. is also good - allowing the regional news a whole 10 minutes for their late broadcast. Conversely, what have ITN been up to? Do they even know? First it's the 11 o'clock news and now it's back to the 10 o'clock news - but when is it actually on at 10 o'clock? Mostly it seems to be on around 10.20 ish - sorry but then shouldn't it be renamed the 10.20 o'clock news? The format of the programme is poor, concentrating more on advertising the Tonight Programme with Trevor MacDonald and worrying about what will be read (briefly) after the ad break. I...

Nurofen for Children

Advantages: Symptoms disappear within minutes
Disadvantages: stains if it catches the clothes

...In my opinion I think Nurofen for Children is a very good product and value for money. I have been using Nurofen for children with my two daughters. I have used it when they had fever and when they had pain or teething discomfort. On each occasion that I have used it their symptoms disappeared within a short period of time. I think it is a very good product and would recommend it to any parent. If something is not valuable to me, I do not buy it a second time. However, I think Nurofen for children is very good and so I will continue to buy it. I also find that it has a great taste so the children do not shy away from it as much as they do with other medicines....

The Children of Men

Advantages: A chilling story, menacing atmosphere
Disadvantages: Can be a bit slow at times

...P.D. James is a successful British crime fiction writer but having never read her work before, I picked this book up out of interest after vaguely hearing about the film based on it. "The Children of Men" is not a crime fiction novel but is instead a dystopian novel set in a future England where no-one has been able to have a child for twenty-five years. The novel is all about the consequences of this mass childlessness on society. I have to say I quite enjoyed it and thought it had a nicely menacing air. It was quite indebted to Orwell's "1984" in some ways but was by no means a replica. The main character is Theo, who isn't always a sympathetic protagonist as he can be quite irritating and also cold. He is the cousin of the Warden of England who is basically a dictator. It also is available to buy in 6ml sachets which is great if you are going on holiday or just for keeping one or two in your handbag in case of emergencies. The good thing is, that it is sugar and colour free, when you open the bottle and pour it out, it is a white thick syrup. It can be used for you child from the ages of 6 months to 12 years with doeses as follows. Babies 6-12 months- 2.5ml 3 to 4 times in 24 hours. Children 1-3 years- 5ml 3 times in 24 hours. 4-6 years- 7.5ml 3 times in 24 hours. 7-9 years- 10ml 3 times in 24 hours. 10-12 years- 15ml 3 times in 24 hours. Each 5ml dose of Nurofen contains 100mg Ibuprofen. As this contains Ibuprofen and is a syrup it works very quickly which is great if your child...
