Thai sweet chilli sauce

Advantages: Easy oriental cooking
Disadvantages: Too much like Kung Po?

...I still cannot really tell the difference between thai food and chinese. I have been told that different spices are used in thai cooking - but I 'm afraid that I can't really distinguish between the two. I guess my palate is not cultured enough! Perhaps there is a Ciao member out there that can help - and write a review on the difference between thai and chinese. I have developed a passion for world cuisine and on every shopping trip I make an effort to find different sauces. I recently stumbled across thai sweet chilli. Sauce, maybe - chilli, no.

Advantages: cheap and easy
Disadvantages: where's the chilli?!

...I'm back in Cambridge for a few days, and have realised that we have lots of rice that needs using up! Tempting as it was to make my own chilli, it's so much easier to buy ready-made sauce, and they're not usually that bad. The only sauce available in our local Co-op was of the tinned, Homepride variety, so that would have to do! At £1.25 or so, the tin was pretty good value for money - even more so because it's now a "new large size" containing no less than 500g of the sauce! You'll find this stuff in the sauces aisle of your supermarket - it's a blue tin with the little black and white Homepride guy on the front, pointing to a big plate of delicious-looking curry. However, on closer inspection of the tin, I was amazed to see that chillis are not among the ingredients that this stuff contains - I'm guessing that they come under...

...I was looking for something unusual aside from my usual curries and lentil soups when I decided to cook a chicken chilli. This is basically a chilli con carne not with minced beef but with minced chicken to make a healthy alternative. I usually get minced chicken from my local butchers as long as I put in an advance order. Aside from the meat, I know the main ingredients: kidney beans, tomatoes, onions, pepper and chilli. Blu Dragon dipping sauce hits the mark!

...I'm a big fan of anything spicy and I really enjoy eating and preparing Indian, Chinese and South-east Asian food. I regularly cook stir-fries but never use prepared sauces, prefering to rely on soy sauce, sesame oil and the flavours from the herbs or spices I've used in the marinades. So when I first decided to try this some years ago now, I was a bit doubtful. That didn't last long as the first whiff as I opened the bottle made we want to just spoon it down on the spot. ...Feeling lazy again after a hard day at work I decided to cook an east meal . I boiled a pan of water, opened a value pack of pasta. The pasta is in a bag of 500 g. Then I found a little jar (190g), of Sacla Tomato & Chilli Paste 190g. My pasta cooked for about 15 minutes. I then drained and rinsed the pasta with boiling water. Then I twisted the cap off the glass jar and poured in the thick sauce. Next I stirred the Sacla Tomato & Chilli Paste into the pasta and stirred to cover all the pasta. I reheated the pasta on the hob while I stirred the sauce in the pasta covered this amount of pasta quite well. I served some of the pasta in sauce onto 2 plates one for hubby one for me and sprinkled some parmesan cheese on top. We sat down to eat. This was a tasty easy quick meal. ...This is a winter warmer guaranteed to warm you up on these cold winter nights. This is a medium Chilli sauce made by Uncle Ben's and it really is quick, easy and tasty. It comes in a glass jar so very handy for the environmentally aware and has the usual orange sticker over the jar so that you recognise it on the shelves. Uncle Ben's are a popular well known company and available in most supermarkets and smaller convenience stores - usually found in the aisle that contains the cook in sauces and pasta sauces. The jar only comes in one size 500 grams that claims to serve 3-4 and cost about £1.30 obviously depending on where you shop.
