China - Unforgettable

Advantages: Great Sights, Changing Culture.
Disadvantages: Difficult Language

...Introduction = Two years ago my wife and I decided that we were going to go all out and have a big holiday before we started a family. After setting ourselves a budget in the region of £4000 (including spending money) we finally decided to take a 12 day all inclusive tour of China's highlights and a three day extension in Shanghai. Going with Kuoni we would have transport, a guide and meals included as well as a cruise down the Yangtze river. I hope in this review to give you an impression and some handy hints shold you choose to visit yourselves. The Country China is the worlds most populated (1.3 billion) and third largest country (after Russia and Canada). It encompases a huge variety of climates from deserts to rainforests. Temperatures also vary greatly depending on where you are in the country...

Go easy on the eye liner, China!

Advantages: cute
Disadvantages: retired

...From about the age of ten, my friends and I were addicted to collecting TY beanies. For those of you who do not know for some strange reason, TY Beanies are a collection of little teddies in all forms, from animals and teddy bears. Once you start a collection they are quite addictive. Their cute little faces draw you in and indeed they are all adorable! One of the Beanies is a Panda, named China. China sits on his fours, and looks so adorable! His fur is black and white, as you would expect, with the arms and paws black alond with his ears and patches over his eyes, the rest of him white. He looks quite sad, his mouth upside down with his beady little eyes hidden in the blackness of the patches. Though he looks adorable all the same. If you give China a stroke, you will find that he is very soft indeed. His fur is so warm and fuzzy...

China Lake

Advantages: Witty, fast paced, full of suspense
Disadvantages: Maybe a little bit hard to get into

...The story unfolds in Santa Barbara, home of our heroine, Evan Delaney. Evan's six year old nephew currently lives with her, his Dad being posted to the Naval Air Warfare Centre in China Lake and his mum's whereabouts unknown. Unfortunately, events turn sour when a funeral of a family friend gathers some unwanted attention from a religious cult called the Remnant. Sassy Evan, definately no shrinking violet, has a few choice words for the groups leader, Wyoming and from here, her adventures begin. Why does she get involved? Well, here comes the crunch (and I promise you this does not give away too much of the book!) - guess who has joined the Remnants? - Luke's Mum Tabitha! Guess what else? - They want Luke back! Now, who would trust an evil, gunweilding religious cult with a six year old? Not Evan! Unfortunatley, the Remnant are...

Bone China by Roma Tearne

Advantages: Interesting easy to read novel
Disadvantages: None

...The author, Roma Tearne, was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Britain when ten years old. Before becoming a writer she trained as a painter and her work has been widely exhibited. Bone China is her second book and is a very enjoyable and moving story, following four generations of the de Silva family, from the 1930's onwards. The de Silva's are a Tamil family living in Ceylon, or Sri Lanka as it was. Grace is the family matriarch to a somewhat dysfunctional family and is the link that bonds all the characters of the book. Grace was born into a rich land owning family but she marries Aloysius for love and watches with great dignity as, over the years, he drinks and gambles away her family's fortune. Always trying to maintain the traditions and customs of her time, in a country every increasingly torn apart by political and civil...

Imperial China - Excellent Value and Well Worth the Visit

Advantages: Great Location. Good Food. Excellent Value. Great Service.
Disadvantages: Minor compaint about Beef Satay starter, but otherwise no issues at all.

...on the Imperial China on Lisle Street. FIRST IMPRESSIONS The first thing that strikes you as you walk up Lisle Street from Leicester Square is that every second business appears to be a restaurant, all of which (from budget canteens to more posh eateries) were pretty busy. The character of the streets changes as soon as you head into Chinatown as well, so its very easy to forget you are in central London. The entrance to the Imperial China is through an alley, so it can be easy to miss despite the signage outside. Unexpectedly, you cross a little red bridge over a small pond chock full of impressive looking Koi. It gives you the impression of ?crossing over? and leaving the bustle of Lisle Street behind you. We were courteously met by the waiting staff and immediately seated. The restaurant seems to have two main areas. The front...

China China Swansea

Advantages: All you can eat at a reasonable price
Disadvantages: It's so tasty you'll probably eat too much

...In my humble opinion China China offers an exceptionally varied, delicious buffet menu at a reasonable price. The freshly cooked food is constantly being added to the hot serving tables, the 'Seafood' in particular is delicious and it's a real treat to have such a well prepared aray of tasty Mussels, King Prawns, and Squid. If you'd rather the more conventional meat dishes there are plenty of Chicken, Beef, Spare Ribs etc. and all sorts of side dishes, from Special Fried Rice or Spring Rolls to plain old boring Chips for the less experimental of you. Even lots of pretty average but tasty Cheese Cakes. Ice Creams or Fruit Salads for afters (if you can fit them in). My only criticism is of me not China China, and that is I keep confusing 'All you would like to eat' with 'All you can eat' and as it's so tasty I made a right pig of myself...

Nightmair China

Advantages: errr???
Disadvantages: See Opinion

...I am writing this for you on behalf of my brother who recently came to vist me in Sydney over the Christmas period and I don't mind if you don't rate it very highly I just wanted to share the experiance. We booked this flight with him through our travel agents, it was very expensive for an economy seat at around 1000 pounds but this was mainly due to the time of year he was traveling. He was flying via Bejing and the travel agent called Air China to confirm any visa requirements, a nice lady called Rebecca advised him that the only thing he needed was his Australian Tourist Visa to travel through Bejing. The day of the flight my brother checked in and there was no problems, this was his first ever flight and they went through everything with him, and told him wher to go. There were no delays in take off, and the first part...

Review of Big Trouble In Little China (DVD)

China Carpentry

Advantages: Always something to keep interest, Humour
Disadvantages: N/A

...Big Trouble in Little China is undoubtedly Kurt Russell's best yet. The tongue in cheek humour throughout a deadly supernatural, subterrain conflict is sublime. John Carpenter has hit a gem in this production. Kurt Russell acts as Jack Burton, a run-of-the-mill type guy who works as a truck driver, fancying himself as an entertainer and woman charmer. He crosses by an old friend, Weng Chi (Dennis Dun) in China Town, San Fransisco, on a dark and stormy night, and after a fun night of drink and gamble, and ten green bottles still standing on the wall, Burton is persuaded to accompany his bud to the airport the following day. Weng's fioncée is arriving from China, Mau Yin, with a rare characteristic for a chinese girl, green eyes. However, an old, evil, ghost magician is weaving his powers down under and to appease his spiritual rulers...

Review of Big Trouble In Little China (DVD)

The Suffering of the Women of China.

Advantages: Easy to read, split into stories, informative.
Disadvantages: You'll need tissues!

...Now, I get through at least one book a week just on the train into and home from work Monday to Friday. I usually read something quite light... you know the sort of book - murder mystery, sloppy romance etc etc. something that isn't too taxing anyway, my university course does that for me. However, for some unknown reason, this book caught my eye so I decided to make an exception. I was quite surprised, though, at how compelling this book actually was. I finished it in a day! If you have a similar lifestyle to me then you'll know how big a deal that actually is because I barely have time to fit in food or sleep some days. Xinran, the author, was a journalist in China during the Cultural Revolution and subsequent phase of 'Opening Up'. She worked for a radio station and had her own late night show. At that time, the media was...
