Through the front door the first thing that grabs the attention of most diners is the fish pond though maybe I should call it the fish trough. It's a narrow moat-like affair that runs from one side of the restaurant to the other, passing round the corners and under the entrance way. It's quite narrow in places and I suspect that some of the bigger fish have to head for the area near the door just to get space to turn round in though they all look pretty happy and healthy (if a fish can be said to be happy). We were shown to a seating area with lots of couches and brought some menus by a very smiley waiter called Jonathon who kept smiling each time he returned to see if we'd stopped gassing long enough to choose some food. Stylish Chinese Cuisine

Advantages: Good food, service and surroundings
Disadvantages: Not disabled friendly; minimum charge

...unfortunately not suitable for the disabled as there are about three steps up into the restaurant. The ladies is up a flight of red-carpeted stairs at the top of which you will suddenly see yourself in two full-length mirrors. The toilets are very pink and there is a high standard of cleanliness. I would give Tang's five stars for food, service and stylish surroundings. I have, however, removed one star because of the minimum charge and also the fact that the restaurant is not disabled friendly. I certainly recommend it as the best Chinese restaurant I have experienced in Southsea. There is a very reasonably priced one on Albert Road that badly needs a face lift; the one on Osborne Road is good as a take-away according to my son and his partner, but they never see anyone in the restaurant. Roast chicken (half) Chicken omlette.. King Prawn omlette.. All of these are around the £4.50 mark Last but not least are the special dishes.. Deep fried mantou (Chinese buns) Deep fried crab claws Spare rib with garlic salt Onion ring This is just a small selection from this very nice and affordable menu.. When ordering the staff are very polite, you can call on the phone or just turn up. No matter what you order this only takes 10 minutes. No matter how busy they are they will always cook very fast and the food is always piping hot. ...My favourite Chinese dish has to be Crispy Duck - I love it! Whenever I go out for a Chinese meal I always select something that has Crispy Duck as one of the courses. Most meals that I enjoy I like to find out how to cook them at home but with Crispy Duck I must confess that the recipe has so far eluded me so it is a real treat to eat it when I go out. It is quite rare for me to visit the 'ready meals' section in supermarkets anyway as I much perfer to batch cook food and then freeze down my own ready meals. However one day when I saw Crispy Duck in amongst the ready meals on a rare sortie past the fridge at my local Tesco I had to give it a try to see if it could possibly be as good as it is in my 'local' Chinese restaurant. Now I use the word 'local' somewhat creatively because here in rural Suffolk nothing is exactly 'local...

...What! Only 10 foods? Of all the MILLIONS/ BILLIONS of food products out there we can only pick 10? Well, I suppose you'd get bored by my 100th or so one..or tenth... In no particular order; let's begin 1. Fish -Smoked Haddock, Salmon, Cod, sea bass or tuna. Haddock is delcious in a pitta bread with scrambled egg or haselback potatoes. Salmon fillet is divine if you top it with mayo, crushed seasoned cornflakes with garlic and then drizzled with a cheese sauce. Smoked salmon slices mixed into mash with cheese spread! emm. And tuna, mix it with onion and some chutney to get fish fruity. Make your own fish pie or chop it up into an omelete. Fish is sooo nutritional, versatile and delcious. Not a fan of sardines, herring; trout and the lark, or with heads and eyes still on! Prawns - league of there own. Nice just out the pack...

...I only saw a couple of episodes of the 2008 BBC TV series ?Chinese Food Made Easy? presented by the lovely Ching-He Huang but what I saw really impressed me as each week she would go out onto the streets with a portable gas stove and a wok and get a group of ordinary people to cook one of her dishes with her trademark phrase ?Wok On? signalling time to start cooking. The food all looked delicious and healthy and easy to make and I knew I had to get the book when it came out. The book ?Chinese Food Made Easy? is a spin off from the TV series but you need not have seen the TV programmes to appreciate how good the book is. The book dispels the myth that real Chinese food is greasy, deep fried and MSG laden like the offerings that we get from our local take away.
