...Being a serious caffeine abuser I am constantly on the look out for interesting confectionery to accompany my coffee to make my habit seem a little more acceptable, and not the sad drug addiction that it really is. The odd cake or biscuit also lengthens the period between that first sip of espresso and my first fag of the day. Well, in truth, my first five of the day. So cakes and biscuits are in fact health foods when compared to the five roll ups that they replace. I have tried most of the trendier confections; Blueberry Muffins, Danish Pastries and even the humble but majestically dunkable digestive. ...For years, the Terry's chocolate orange was one of those chocolate products I loved both for it's taste and it's uniqueness in it's presentation...... but very rarely got my mitts on (probably 'cos older generations of relatives viewed them as expensive for chocolate / special treats only, or whatever). Then not so long ago, a new Mint flavoured one came along.... I'd had my eye on trying it for quite a while, and come Easter earlier this year (or just after, when one of the local supermarkets had them on clearance offer) finally took the plunge. It's not too different to the original orange one, except the other packaging cardboard is Green instead of Blue on the original..... and the wrapper is silver with green dots on it (instead of Orange). Inside the wrapper it looks pretty much the same too.... a ball of chocolate...

Mint and Chocolate: Always a Winner?

Advantages: The combination of mint and milk chocolate is always wonderful
Disadvantages: Might be too sweet for some, E numbers and calories galore!

...The idea of comfort food can mean many different things to many different people. One thing that can be certain is that it's always junk food; stuff that is high in calories and not necessarily eaten as a 'treat' but as a pick me up for when things are going badly and we want to indulge our guilty pleasures. This week started off on a bad foot and since then, I've decided to declare this week my official 'food is my pick me up week'. However, when I saw that the Cadbury's Minty dessert was the Product of the Week, I knew I'd be heading to the shops as soon as possible to get one (or two!). I love anything with mint, whether it's a scent, colour or taste, and I knew from my many previous experiences that mint chocolate desserts are always a winning formula. Review of Dairy Milk Mint Yoghurt

Apple, More like mint chocolate!

Advantages: makes lots of bubbles, more for the men, looks good on the shelf
Disadvantages: Does not smell like apples

...Loving bath time as it is really the only time I get peace and quiet I have a thing for nice bath foams and I am always on the look out for then. This was my latest find as it looked and sounded lovely. ~~THE BOTTLE~~ The bath foam comes in a clear plastic cylindrical bottle which is ideal as it allows me to see how much I have left of the product. The top of the bottle has a black flip lid which makes for easy opening and pouring and does keep the bottle clean. The front of the bottle has a label which has the product name at the top and the n-spa Fruits logo at the bottom. In the middle of the label is a lovely short paragraph which reads as follow:- ?What if apples had never grown on trees? said the wise man, ?Would mint be crumbled and topped with cream instead. Imagine if mint was not green, would chocolate creams be icy...

...TRIDENT SWEET KICKS CHOCOLATE MINT GUM I'm not really a fan of chewing gum, my jaw aches after a short while and I soon get bored. But my son loves his 'chuddy' - as he and his school friends call it - and gets through tons of the stuff! So when I was shopping in Home Bargains and saw a selection of Trident packs of chewing gum (usually around 50p a packet) at the bargain price of 5p a packet I bought some, thought they'd keep him quiet for a while. ...Having reviewed the original Belgian chocolate flavoured 'Options' hot choc, it's time to move onto the other flavour in my cupboard - 'Mint Madness'. The Options Hot chocolate range is aimed at those trying to reduce calorie intake, or like me, for an indulgent guilt free treat. I have been drinking these in the morning before work recently because it's been chilly and they've really warmed me up for my bike ride to work. There are only 33kcal and 0.9g of fat per 11g serving. 11g may not sound like much but it provides a sufficient delicious flavour and equates to about 3 heaped teaspoons. There's also only 4g of sugar per serving so it isn't going to hype you up before bed. These are traditionally made with water only. They thicken fairly well but I always add a touch of frothed up milk, as it recommends on the back of the tub...

Feel the bubbles melt- Aero Mint

Advantages: tasty, cheap, yum
Disadvantages: too moreish

...These bars are currently on promotion in every supermarket for £1, In Morrisons they are on offer; 2 bars for £1.50. The Aero chunky comes in two different flavours; milk chocolate and mint/milk chocolate. I bought a bar of each, I haven't had Aero for a long time and now i've enjoyed the bar of mint I wish I'd bought 2 of this flavour! I will review the Mint version, my favourite. The chocolate is wrapped in a foil fresh wrapper which is sealed. The packaging is white and green with bubble shapes around the edges, in the middle is the Aero writing in brown which also has a bubbly texture. Nowhere on the front of packaging does it mention that this is a mint flavour, I suppose you just work it out from the colour. The only place Mint is mentioned is in tiny writing just above the ingredients. Mint Aero is milk...

Advantages: Good quality, Decent value for money, A fresh twist on Baileys

...Shortly before Christmas 2005, I was wandering around the drinks aisles of my local Tesco with the wonderfully vague remit of buying ?some alcohol? for imbibing over the impending holidays. Having already seized the obligatory seasonal bottle of De Kupyer cherry brandy, I was moving in the general direction of the rum section when my eyes fell open something strange and new. They were bottles of Baileys Irish Cream, but oddly some had brown labels and caps, whilst others were green. Tesco's mint mousse

Advantages: tasty
Disadvantages: high price, high fat content

...Since I haven't had a nice chocolate pudding in a while I went to see what goodies Tesco's had. To my delight I saw they had bought out another mousse, this time mint chocolate. The Product: Taste - Put it in your mouth and you suddenly get a rush of mint and then the chocolate, which is okay but for me the mint is slightly too overpowering. Texture - Thick, but not as stodgy as the plain belgian mousse. Smell - It doesn't smell as strong of mint as it tastes but it still smells rather gorgeous. Sight - Dark brown mousse with medium sized bubbles. The Packaging: The mousse comes in a clear pot with a silver label on the front showing the name, and that it is from the Tesco's Finest* range. Chocolate Orange - No this is Minty

...I was very lucky this Christmas and due to many shops selling three of Terry's Chocolate Oranges for £4 I received three different varieties all for myself, thanks to my lovely bloke - the plain chocolate, the milk chocolate and the new mint type which has nothing orangey about it at all. ***The Background*** Terry's of York were the original makers of this gorgeous novelty chocolate, which I always seemed to get one of in my stocking each year as a child. Much nicer than the fruit alternative, which, traditionally you are meant to find in there. Since 1993 though Kraft Foods have been in charge of the Terry's products.
