...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.

Christopher Brookmyre's Schooldays
Advantages: Great characters, situations familiar to all of us
Disadvantages: Slightly unsatisfying ending
...I'm not a big fan of crime novels, but with Jasper Fforde and Christopher Brookmyre making such consistently brilliant efforts at subverting the genre, my resistance is being eroded fairly swiftly.
Christopher Brookmyre has established a formidable reputation for Scottish crime thrillers. Full of bodily fluids and lurid characters, they're generally hilarious to read, but shot through with such extreme violence that there's no chance of them ever being left in the 'humour' section.
A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil is told entirely in the present tense, and follows two linked story strands - the progress through school of a group of Scottish children from their first day right through to their leaving 'dance', and a murder investigation about twenty years later.
Brookmyre's previous works have often made a big deal...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Advantages: long, lasting and thrilling read

...Christopher Pike is an absolutely fantastic writer, i have read many of his books and have been sad to finish them. Final friends takes you through 3 books:
Final Friends 1- the party
Final Friends 2- the dance
Final Friends 3- the graduation
In the first book of the trilogy, a young girl called Alice dies from an aparant suicide at her own party but her close friend michel thinks otherwise. He thinks she was murdered. The books then follow the lives of Alice's friends including Michel who has taken the role as a detective to find out the truth about his friends death. More people die, others get hurt but eventually the truth is revealed.
I loved all three of these books, they kept me hooked all the way through. These are not just your average mystery thrillers, they are much more. Pike does not just focus on the one issue...

My tribute is to Christopher Reeve.
Christopher Reeve was born on 25 September 1952 in New York City. His mother (Barbara Johnson) and father (Franklin Reeve) divorced when Christopher and his brother Ben were four years old, and his mother took them away from New York to New Jersey.
Christopher's love of acting shone through from an early age, when joining as many school clubs and after school committments as possible at Princeton Day School.
After graduating high school, Reeve toured the country and attended the Cornell University where he majored in English and Music Theory. Reeve appeared in theatres such as...

Arise, Dragon Rider!

...Eragon is the first book in what was originally the Inheritance Trilogy, written by Christopher Paolini. Having now written the third book, Paolini has realised that his saga needs a further book, and thus it will now become a quadrilogy.
In terms of describing the saga, and its setting, it is set in a fantasy world not dissimilar to that of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, an old world where magic and elves and dwarves and other monsters and creatures feature heavily, with importance given to destiny and lore. The tale starts off rather innocently with farmboy Eragon, as he stumbles across a strange, purple stone.
This is the beginning of the adventure for the young Eragon, as the stone turns out to be a dragon egg. When it hatches, Eragon becomes the latest Dragon Rider, a legendary title, and one that could decide the fate of others...

Pat was enjoying the unusually mild weather, sitting on a bench and listening to the squeals of excited children. She was so weary with the long hard winter and relished a few moments to herself.
