...I'm not a big fan of crime novels, but with Jasper Fforde and Christopher Brookmyre making such consistently brilliant efforts at subverting the genre, my resistance is being eroded fairly swiftly. Christopher Brookmyre has established a formidable reputation for Scottish crime thrillers. Full of bodily fluids and lurid characters, they're generally hilarious to read, but shot through with such extreme violence that there's no chance of them ever being left in the 'humour' section. ...I have travelled many times with AddLee, and on all occasions I have been thoroughly impressed by the proffesionalism and politeness of the drivers and customer service staff. When I booked my taxi I received an e-mail on my Blackberry and then once a driver was allocated a text message. When my taxi was outside (on time - early infact) I received another text with the cars details and registration, and the drivers mobile number should I need to contact him. I left my house and the driver was dressed in a shirt and tie and opened the door for me, which for a minicab was very unexpected. The driver was very polite and properly (also unusual for a minicab) All the cars are either VW Sharans or Ford Galaxy MVP's - all under 2 years old and are all a sleek black colour and clean. Mercedes are also available at an extra cost...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...As usual Lee Evans is absolutely on top form. This dvd is packed with hilarious lines that will have you laughing until you cry. You also lose the ability to breathe at times as your laughing so hard. Lee Evans has this amazing abillity to talk about normal daily events and turn them into something that you cant help laughing at and also sometimes if you think about it you can remember a time when you have done or seen someone else doing just what he is saying. He also backs up his lines with ridiculous facial expressions. This dvd is definately worth every penny it certainly will give a good evening of laughter and keep you totally entertained.
