I'm in the mood for the Nolans!
Advantages: amazing tracks, wonderful price
Disadvantages: n/a
...I am a huge fan of the Nolans, but up until recently I had been relying on Youtube when it came to listening to their music. However only a small percentage of their music has actually been uploaded so I was unable to completely enjoy what they had to offer. I decided it was time to buy their music, and purchased three Nolans albums, which gave me a complete collection of their songs. One of these albums is the Best of the Nolans.
Who are they?
I'd be very surprised if somebody nowadays hadn't heard of the Nolans, but just in case, I'll share this information. The Nolans are a group of Irish sisters, originally known as the Nolan Sisters. Their parents were both musically talented and each of their daughters had adopted this. Over the years, right from 1975 when the group were formed, it consisted of sisters Maureen, Bernie, Coleen...

Relax your Spirit, Body and Soul with the Nolans
Advantages: songs, price
Disadvantages: n/a
...I've been a huge fan of Loose Women for about two years, and now it is the main thing in my present and indeed my future. Over the years I've learned so much about the panel and particularly about Coleen Nolan. It was she who got me listening to the Nolans music, which I have fallen in love with since. I've bought a ticket to go and see them live at Hammersmith Apollo later this year and in an attempt to clue myself up with their music a bit more I went on a search for their albums. In the end I bought three albums which meant I owned every song ever released by the Sisters, and one of these is Disco Party Classics.
To look at, the album cover is very attactive. The main colour is pink, with 'The Nolans' written in a thin gold font. Underneath there is a picture of four of the Nolan sisters: Linda, Coleen, Maureen and Bernie. They look...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Christopher Brookmyre's Schooldays
Advantages: Great characters, situations familiar to all of us
Disadvantages: Slightly unsatisfying ending
...I'm not a big fan of crime novels, but with Jasper Fforde and Christopher Brookmyre making such consistently brilliant efforts at subverting the genre, my resistance is being eroded fairly swiftly.
Christopher Brookmyre has established a formidable reputation for Scottish crime thrillers. Full of bodily fluids and lurid characters, they're generally hilarious to read, but shot through with such extreme violence that there's no chance of them ever being left in the 'humour' section.
A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil is told entirely in the present tense, and follows two linked story strands - the progress through school of a group of Scottish children from their first day right through to their leaving 'dance', and a murder investigation about twenty years later.
Brookmyre's previous works have often made a big deal...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

Christopher Robin Goes to Skull
Advantages: nice litle adventure with Pooh and friends
Disadvantages: not quite up to the standrard one associates with the franchise
...Poor Pooh! It's the last day of summer, and wanting to have a another grand day of summer playtime with all his friends, he discovers that Christopher Robin cannot come to play. Christopher Robin has left him a note instead, which Pooh and his friends read with great alarm. he has gone to Skull! Oh no! They must save him from the dangers of Skull before something dreadful happens! What follows is a story of friendship and bravery as Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and the gang set out to save their best friend, Christopher Robin. But just where is Skull, and what dangers might this scary sounding place have? They don't know, but they decide to face it all anyway, out of love.
This is a feature length film for young fans of Winnie the Pooh, and it's one of the better ones though by no means the best. The animation doesn't have the look...

Nolan cool!
Advantages: lots of products, quite cheap
Disadvantages: not the largest store
...I always love it when the Iceland advert comes on TV. Why? Because it stars the wonderful Coleen Nolan! That woman is amazing, and indeed I am shamefully one to be sold by celebrity advertising! If Coleen were selling a smelly old sock, no doubt I would buy it! So there's no surprise that I often take a trip to the local Iceland here in Aberdeen!
When you enter the car park for Iceland, which is situated right outside the store, you will find it is very small! At most I have seen seven cars in there, which isn't really a lot at all! When you cross this small space to the far corner you will find a row of trollies. Taking one, you can then enter through the small double doors to enter the shop.
When inside you will find that the shop is in aisles, as most are! In front of you there are two tills, which have long runner belts. In total...

A dark side in the showbiz story
Advantages: Interesting and sometimes poignant story, sensitively and well told
Disadvantages: The Nolans have never been that hip - but don't let that trivialise the more serious issues
...To most of us, the Nolan Sisters probably conjure up wholesome cheesy visions of TV light entertainment shows, 'I'm In The Mood for Dancing' (top three early in 1980), and the wholesome image of a squeaky-clean family act ? rather like an Irish female version of the Osmonds, perhaps. But scratch almost every showbiz story, and somewhere there's going to be darkness. So it is in this case.
There were eight Nolan children, two boys and six girls. Anne, born in 1950, was the eldest. From this memoir, she seems to have enjoyed a relatively normal, happy childhood until she was seven, when she spent a year in hospital with aches and pains immediately below her knees ? a condition which was never diagnosed or completely cured.
Far worse, when she reached the age of eleven, was the sexual abuse which she had to endure from her father. It was...

All the King's horses won't stop me from listening!
Advantages: lots of great songs, price
Disadvantages: n/a
...I was left gobsmacked a few days ago when I 'met' somebody who had not heard of the Nolans. I couldn't believe it was even a possibility nowadays - they're the topic of conversation wherever you turn. Whether you watch TV or listen to music more, I'd have thought everybody had heard of them! I personally adore the Sisters; their music is amazing! I wish I was old enough at the time to enjoy their hits as and when they were released, or even wish I was born at the time! I've found people don't seem to like admitting to their liking for the Nolans, and I cannot see why - they're fantastic through and through. I think they're amazing, and I don't hold back when it comes to admitting it!
In my quest to discover all of the Nolans songs, I went in search of their CDs. In the end I found three of their albums which would give me all of their...
