Christopher Pike- final friends trilogy

Advantages: long, lasting and thrilling read
Disadvantages: none

...Christopher Pike is an absolutely fantastic writer, i have read many of his books and have been sad to finish them. Final friends takes you through 3 books: Final Friends 1- the party Final Friends 2- the dance Final Friends 3- the graduation In the first book of the trilogy, a young girl called Alice dies from an aparant suicide at her own party but her close friend michel thinks otherwise. He thinks she was murdered. The books then follow the lives of Alice's friends including Michel who has taken the role as a detective to find out the truth about his friends death. More people die, others get hurt but eventually the truth is revealed. I loved all three of these books, they kept me hooked all the way through. These are not just your average mystery thrillers, they are much more. Pike does not just focus on the one issue...

That pain is old, it has seen a million dawns.

Advantages: Amazing author, great writing style, great charecters
Disadvantages: Some sex scenes

...This is not like my usual reviews recently, I sat down to do a music review tonight and just wasn't able to write one for some reason. Ciao has only just accepted this product proposal, never done a book review with this much information before, tell me what you think. Rating's appreciated as are comments. For those of you wondering about the title, the book starts off with this wonderful quote and I really thought it was quite fitting. Coming up with a decent title was hard, so I chose this. It's by an unknown author. Christopher Pike- Falling I remember the first time I read a Christopher Pike book, I was around 11/12 and it was the first book I've ever read that it didn't have something kiddy or a romance tale to it and I was hooked. Pike is most famous for his teen-thrillers, which is what a lot of my book collection...

Langdale Pikes Report

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, fresh air...
Disadvantages: None

...Suddenly, you find yourself in the Lake District? You are heading along the A592 with Windermere to your left. You look to the north and in the distance you see a curious mountain formation. Two hill tops strangely positioned against each other. What is that? You wonder. It is ? or should I say they are - the Langdale Pikes. And today, constant reader, I am going to take you by the hand and guide you across this beautiful terrain. Hope you have brought your boots and some food and water. Best make you sure you have your waterproofs too, it can rain a bit here, as I am sure you might know. We move onto the A593, heading towards Coniston. But before Coniston we turn right for Dungeon Ghyll (B5343), where our destination is. If you have arrived here not knowing where the Lake District is, then I shall briefly tell you that the Lake...

"The dream became a nightmare..."

Advantages: you'll keep reading to find out what happened
Disadvantages: loose ends tied up a bit too nicely...

...reliving that night months ago at a house party when Robin got sick. What's worse is that someone else wants to know what happened at that house party, and who is to blame for Robin's condition. Someone who will not rest until they find out the truth to exact their revenge... + MY OPINION (which is the only opinion worth knowing, obviously) + An excellent Pike book with more characters than usual, but each crafted well enough to stand out in their own way. Robin can do no wrong even before the 'accident' and doesn't seem to have a bad bone in her body, Park is a bit of a prick for ditching her and going with easy Angie, Lena is rather likeable despite being the popular bitch, Kerry is a bit pathetic/pitiful with a chip on her shoulder, Angie's a tart with no morals, Sol is the bad boy but with more going on than he shows. Bert... well...

High School Hell

Advantages: Good introduction to horror for kids, lively, funny, easy to read
Disadvantages: Stereotypical characters [the good kid, the bad kid, the intellectual kid etc]

..., listens to the word suicide used, and tries without success to make someone aware that she didn?t commit suicide. She was murdered, pushed off the balcony to the concrete below and is determined to investigate who killed her and why. Remember Me is book one in a series of three tales about Shari Cooper, but it is wrapped up to a satisfactory ending and therefore doesn?t necessitate reading the sequels unless you wish to. (The sequels were actually published around 5 years after the first book so I think they were more an after thought, than an originally planned follow on). Christopher Pike?s books are aimed at teenagers, a step up from ?happy ever after? books... horror on L-plates if you like. Most of the plots are very basic, although you don?t fly through his work thinking that as such. You are carried along on a premise of mystery...

You'll need more than stakes or Buffy...

Advantages: Different take on the usual vampire story, compelling...
Disadvantages: a bit short...

...***cHRISTOPHER PIKe*** Christopher Pike (real name Kevin Mcfadden) is a best selling author of teen fiction who specialises mostly on thrillers and horrors. He has written over 40 books in his career including Chain Letter, Slumber Party, Sati, Remember Me and probably most popular of all, his Last Vampire series which ran for 6 hugely successful novels. The one I will be reviewing here is for the first, The Last Vampire. It was first published in the USA and UK in 1994 and went on to become a best-seller. ***wHATS THE STORy*** Firstly we are introduced to Alisa Perne who is the last vampire. She has been called into the office of Detective Michael Riley who has been asked to research Alisa by a mystery person. Things don't quite go to plan though for Riley as after he attempts to bribe Alisa, she kills him but not before she...

Review of The Last Vampire - Christopher Pike

Revenge is sweet, but the ending ain't

Advantages: No patronising tone, keeps you guessing, character willing to get revenge!
Disadvantages: Perhaps not for those still sensitive to past betrayls

...years and read it about three times now but alas, is not a Pike favourite of mine. Still a good read though! The ending's a nice wee surprise - well, not nice... but y'know what I mean. And although I did say I felt a bit squiffy while reading this, it just goes to show that Christopher Pike is such a convincing author - sometimes I think that the best artists or writers are the ones who aren't afraid to make their readers / viewers / listeners / themselves feel ill at ease. Confronting feelings you'd rather forget, and all that! Recommended for thriller fans and Christopher Pike fans, perhaps not those who are still a wee bit emotionally scarred after absolute bastards fecking you over in school, college, work, wherever. Mine was a gift from a pal, so hurrah for freebies! But you folk who need to buy things yourself, or who don't want to...

Is Jessica Fletcher out of a Job?

Advantages: nice, likeable main character
Disadvantages: ending feels like a bit of a cop out

...had the odd one-liner that made me chuckle although it was a bit difficult to totally identify with him regarding his feelings towards Shelly (when Christopher Pike writes from a female's perspective, he mentions the funny feeling in your stomach you get when you see someone you find rather dashing (fancy the pants off)... but with Marvin there seems to be some jitters - nothing descriptive regarding physical reactions, but some amusing little thoughts as if he's talking to himself. Like being completely excited that Shelly remembered his name then realising it would be a bit daft if she didn't since they'd had five dates the previous year). However, when Marvin got mad then decided to exact his revenge on someone... that's the part I sat up and took notice, till Marvin began thinking how all the preparation involving in committing such...

A Warning To Peeping Toms

Advantages: Easy to read, nothing patronising despite 'teen book' status
Disadvantages: Stupidity of characters resulting in you shouting at the book in frustration

...'t consider this to be one of Christopher Pike's strongest offerings, but is still readable nonetheless. I adored his Last Vampire series and a couple of others, but was glad this had been a gift and I didn't spend any money on it. Mind you, I must have enjoyed it more than I'm letting on since I've read it two or three times now. On eBay, copies are going from the princely sum of 25 pence on the UK site and 1 cent on the .com site. On the UK Amazon site, used and new copies are available from 1 pence and from 1 cent used and new on the .com site....

Review of Die Softly - Christopher Pike

Christopher Brookmyre's Schooldays

Advantages: Great characters, situations familiar to all of us
Disadvantages: Slightly unsatisfying ending

...I'm not a big fan of crime novels, but with Jasper Fforde and Christopher Brookmyre making such consistently brilliant efforts at subverting the genre, my resistance is being eroded fairly swiftly. Christopher Brookmyre has established a formidable reputation for Scottish crime thrillers. Full of bodily fluids and lurid characters, they're generally hilarious to read, but shot through with such extreme violence that there's no chance of them ever being left in the 'humour' section. A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil is told entirely in the present tense, and follows two linked story strands - the progress through school of a group of Scottish children from their first day right through to their leaving 'dance', and a murder investigation about twenty years later. Brookmyre's previous works have often made a big deal...
