Credo - I believe in cinema
Advantages: Beautiful, artistic, accessible
Disadvantages: Some may be put off by the subtitling
...FILM ONLY (with brief reference to the Director's Cut)
Foreign language films are rarely top of my watch list although I have seen some cracking examples. Invariably those that I like tend to the arty side of cinema. Occasionally there'll be a foreign language breakthrough like Amelié which brings this genre to the attention of a wider audience whereas films such as Tous les Matins du Monde will remain forever in the background.
Cinema Paradiso is, however, a film that is both accessible and beautiful and cannot fail to be appreciated by anyone with a love of cinema. That it is subtitled is far from distracting, the photography taking care of the story for the most part and one is quickly subsumed into a world that is all encompassing.
Post-war Italy was a very different place to the society in which we live...

A world of cinema... for £162
Advantages: Great facilities, great Unlimited deal
Disadvantages: Expensive
...I am fortunate to live right next to a large Shopping Centre, that not only contains many good stores but is itself surrounded by many other retailers, restaurants, cinemas, etc.
My favourite attraction: the Cineworld multiplex.
Cineworld is Britain's second largest multiplex cinema operator in the United Kingdom, with 74 cinemas and over 800 screens.
It also has one cinema in Jersey and another in the Republic of Ireland.
Its first cinema opened in 1996, and the company has since integrated the UGC cinema chain.
I like the "ambiance" at my local Cineworld. There is another huge cinema complex down the road, and even though everything in it is more spacious (lobby, screen rooms, washrooms) and boasts a slicker, more sophisticated decor, it feels colder and less welcoming.
Cineworld, on the other hand, has...

Love cinema? Cineworld Unlimited Card
Advantages: Great value if you use it
Disadvantages: Can be cheaper to pay as you go
...NOTE - THIS REVIEW RELATES TO CINEWORLD'S UNLIMITED CINEMA CARD RATHER THAN CINEWORLD IN TOTAL OR THEIR WEBSITE. I REQUESTED THIS TOPIC AND HAVE BEEN DIRECTED BY CIAO TO WRITE IT HERE SO PLEASE DON'T RATE IT AS OFF-TOPIC - IT'S THEIR FAULT NOT MINE.
*************************************
I used to live in Suffolk not far from Bury St Edmunds. For many years there had been proposals to build a multiplex cinema and the fighting by both sides had been intense. In Suffolk the yes/no camps for a multiplex were as firmly entrenched as the yes/no campaigners for fox-hunting, adoption of the Euro or banning smoking in public places. The situation appeared intractable and so the only local cinema option was an inappropriately named ABC Cinema - I say inappropriate because it only had two small screens - more of an 'ab' than and 'ABC...

Better than the cinemas! Fresher too!
Advantages: Real cinema sweet taste.
Disadvantages: No re-seal option on the bag.
...After a busy week of looking after children, house and husband I don't mind admitting to looking forward to Sunday evening, Sunday is my other halves day off and once 6.30 hits it's just us, peace and quiet! We usually like to sit in front of a film or play the ps2 with a varied selection of snacks spread out in front of us.
I discovered Butterkist cinema sweet popcorn just before Christmas; we do a huge shop every year and buy in tonnes of naughty things to see us through the Christmas period. Normal toffee popcorn can sometimes be a bit too sweet so I thought I'd give the new cinema sweet variety a try, i've not had toffee popcorn since.
Produced in Pontefract, West Yorkshire Butterkist is the UK's leading popcorn brand, it is made by Monkhill Confectionery which is part of the Cadbury Schweppes group. Butterkist popcorn was...

Maidenhead Odeon Cinema - stay away!!
Advantages: there wasn't any!
Disadvantages: no food or drink, dirty, screens didn't work, didn't show any of the top movies
...I don't know anything about Maidenhead to be honest, but I'm pretty sure this is the only cinema there. I was away staying at me girlfriends Nan's last week, and we wanted to go to the cinema. We went swimming first, which is why we were at Maidenhead in the first place.
Anyway, we got there at about midday, and couldn't wait to sit down and enjoy our movie... At the time we weren't one hundred percent sure what we wanted to see... I wanted to see the new Batman film, however my girlfriend hadn't seen any of the other Batman films and wanted to see them before spending £7 on seeing the newest one. So we decided we'd see that another time. We both wanted see Wall-E, and had both heard pretty good things about it - and we'd both been laughing at the films trailer the night before when we saw it on TV! So we'd finally decided what film...

Europes tallest cinema
Advantages: price, location, choice
Disadvantages: lack of parking
...[Updated 01/01/03, details at bottom]
Opened on 21 September 2000, as Europes tallest cinema at 12 storeys high, with 18 screens.
Typically showing 22 films this is by far the biggest choice in Central Scotland.
Located next to Cambridge Street carpark, Buchanan Bus Station, Queen Street Railway Station and Buchanan underground these are the best ways to travel to the venue, as parking in Glasgow is severely restrcited and pricey. (If driving into Glasgow the Odeon at The Quay will be cheaper, but not as good)
The cinema opens at 10:45 (unless there are early screenings for new releases).
"Early bird" tickets are available for all screenings before 12:00, currently £3.
Sign postings to the screens is amazingly poor, but I think they assume you know you have to go upstairs!
Access is via escalator or lifts.
The screens...

UGC: Unbelievably Great Cinema
Advantages: 19 screens means loads of films to choose from!
Disadvantages: Sweets are rather expensive.
...When this monstrous building was erected in the heart of Glasgow, I was a few years younger than I am now and not much of a cinema-goer. My dad told me it was the tallest cinema in Europe and I was impressed, but when I was dragged along by him to see a film there, my first experience was horrendous. First of all, their listings displayed on Teletext and outside the cinema were wrong and the film I was wanting to see wasn't actually playing, although Teletext and their billboards outside said it was. Then, when we finally decided on something else (as there was hardly anything on until later that night), we had to wait in a huge, slow-moving queue to get our tickets. The place was jam-packed with people and you could barely get moving, and it was just entirely unpleasant.
It's no surprise, then, that I was somewhat reluctant to go...

Odeon cinema - The Quay
Advantages: modern, clean
Disadvantages: access by road only
...Although located about 2 miles from the city centre, The Quay is in a retail park based around the Odeon cinema, making ideal for city centre visitors without having to pay parking charges.
Ideally located for access from the M8 (eastbound Kinning Park exit), and from the M77.
12 screens, from 89 to 279.
Normally showing between 14 and 18 films, at various times.
Adult tickets are £5, students/children are £3.50.
No further discounts are currently offered (as at 01/06/02).
After entering the foyer, a rather vast servery is available in the centre of the floor.
You are permitted to bring your own food/drinks onto premises.
No alcohol is permitted, and there are no bars/licence.
I have made several visits to this cinema and been in most of the screens, from the small cosy 89 seater to the massive 279 seater. All films...

LaCie LaCinema - enjoy your divx on TV!
Advantages: reliable, silent, practical, it's getting cheaper, very good remote, 2yrs guarantee
Disadvantages: doesn't support MP4 or MKV
...LaCie LaCinema Premier my review
I already owned a 500GB version of this LaCie LaCinema but when I was in Asda and saw the 750GB for more or less the same price I paid for the other one (£129 I think) I couldn't resist the tempation. I gifted it to my in-law and she's super happy! So what's this LaCie LaCinema Premier? It's a multimedia hard disk that you can plug to the TV and it allows you to watch your media files (video, music, pictures) on your TV, it plays the most commonly used codecs such as DivX, MPEG, JPG, MP3 etc (see them listed later on). I will never praise this product enough, it's simple to use, it's durable and has a very good remote control. What does it change from the 500GB version that I already reviewed? Nothing really, only the size, it allows you to store many more media files, that's all.
For who hasn...

Classy Lady! YSL Cinema Perfume
Advantages: Wonderful smell! Attractive bottle
Disadvantages: None I can think of
...the day.
The perfume comes in a gold box which looks very glamorous! The perfume bottle itself is rectangular in shape with 'Cinema' written across the front in gold letters, and 'Yves Saint Laurent' at the bottom, also in gold letters. The lid is made of gold plastic in a square shape. I find the shape of the bottle quite minimalist and classy.
I personally use this as an everyday scent and I think it is an appropriate perfume to wear for all occasions and in all seasons. I highly recommend it!...
