...If you are young or old, try asking for a motor insurance quotation from the CIS. My vehicle is a Range Rover with an engine conversion. Most companies would not even quote, the CIS insured it at normal rates, and these rates are very competetive. Also, if you do happen to have an accident, I understand that they are very efficient in settling, and this comes not from personal experience, but from a friend in the motor trade who repairs cars, and who often has trouble with other 'all singing, all dancing' companies, who when push comes to shove, literally, don't fulfil their obligations to the customer. Also I know, particularly if you are young the temptation is to look for a cheap alternative, but in the long term, it is best to start a policy in your own name, and start to build your no claims. ...I took out my motor insurance with CIS as it was the cheapest quote - however after paying my first instalment by cheque to the agent (in June), the company kept failing to take any direct debits from me with the result that 3 payments were taken off in September - not on the 1st as stated but on the 29th. Their staff have been completely unhelpful and uncommunicative and I would not recommend them to anyone. The staff in the local office are the rudest I have come across and don't seem to pass on any information.... Read review

...Having trawled the internet for insurance quotes CIS provided me with the cheapest quote by far. My insurance costs me just over £45 a month. Compared to other quotes I am saving (on average) £50 a month. I am 17 driving a K-reg 1.1 Rover Metro. My dad is the main driver, he has had a license for more years than he'd care to remember but due to him having his own car is unable to gain a no-claims bonus. This is where CIS are particularily goo - they give you an introductory 25% off no-claims discount. The downside to CIS is that it's not possible to buy insurance online. ...I first heard of CIS insurance through my parents. My Father was looking for insurance for my mum and stumbled across CIS in the pursuit of the cheapest quote. This was around 10 years ago now but the company at the time was the cheapest. I followed suit when I passed my test - although to keep the cost lower I insured the car in my mum's name (as she was older)…. However the downside to this through insuring with CIS is that the car needs to be registered in the policyholder's name. So my car is now registered under my mum's name! The quote was reasonable, bearing in mind that the policy covered any driver of any age. ...What is the point of having a large insurance company when it appears almost impossible to ever speak to a human being? I have called a total of ten times in two days doesn't result in a single human being, this is one car that is not going to be insuraed with CIS next year! There is no facility for them to take a phone number and come back to you, and no indication what so ever about where you are in the queue. This results in frustration and I have not the time nor the inclination to find out how long it takes. My suggestion is that the CIS chairman tries to ring his own helpline occasionally to discover what his service is like! This would lead to him discovering how difficult it is to actaully speak to someone to get a quote! ...I have been with the CIS for around 3 years now and have had no problems with the service given. I was shopping around to get a better quote and remembered a friend of the family was an agent for CIS. So I called her up and asked her for a quote. Despite her not being able to give a discount for being a friend there was a 10% joining discount available. I think they still offer this but don’t quote me on that! Anyway, the quote I got was better than any others that I had found, so I signed up there and then. This was a fully comprehensive quote with a £150 excess. It includes legal cover. Monthly payments (with interest) are available, however I pay annually. Ow! I was unfortunate enough to have a small bump on a cold icy day and I had no problems sorting my car out. ...Our home insurance was due for renewal yesterday. I chose to ring CIS Insurance for a quote. The lady on the telephone was very helpful indeed. She explained fully what each policy would cover and the cover was pretty comprehensive. The quote she gave me over the telephone was quite competitive and I asked for her to send me the quote through the post. I made her aware that the insurance was due for renewal in a few days. Unfortunately, I received the quote too late to do anything with it. That seems such a shame as the cover was very people friendly. I would advise if anyone wants to take out Co-operative Insurance Society cover that they should call the Service Centre early enough to receive the quote as they seem very helpful and competitive but unfortunately the post was too slow for me.... Bearing in mind i am 19, male and own a 1.6 16v Vauxhall Astra, I still got covered for only £391 a year, this was on my dads policy but his no claims bonus got transferred into my name. (you will have to ask them about this) THE SERVICE - Second to none in my book... Firstly i got a quote through the website, which was really easy to use, then once getting the quote i phoned them. They gave me an even better quote than on their website so its always good to ring them too. My cover came the next day which is unheard of with other insurers, so all in all i got a great service. ...I have been insuring my home contents with CIS for many years, and I have always found them to offer excellent value for money. Of course, the real test is in making a claim, and over the years I have unfortunately had to make several. The largest claim was when the house became flooded overnight by a fault on the washing machine. The water had completly submerged the kitchen floor, and spread all through the downstairs rooms. My 3 year son noticed it first thing in the morning, and came up to the bedroom to tell me that I would need water-boots on downstairs. Luckily I had a vacuum cleaner which could remove water and I spent most of the day salvaging things like books, and lifting the soaked carpet. I phoned CIS and the next day an insurance assessor called. I expected him to try to limit CIS's liability, and was very surprised... Read review

...After passing my driving test i was bought a car by my parents. First though i had the arduous task of obtaining insurance. After shopping around as always i was given a quote by CIS, which was some £500 pounds cheaper than some of the previous astronomical prices i was quoted, and therefore accepted the quote. I did though opt for third party only cover. So whilst commuting home one night, only 2 months after obtaining cover, a large wagon decided to change lanes as i was overtaking him. Only he couldnt see through his mirrors as his vehicle was left hand drive being a Portuguese driver. I luckily escaped with only minor injury, though my car did not.
