catalysts speed up reactions yes ?
Advantages: easy setup ( if know what doing )
Disadvantages: easy to break.
...Another entry onto the cisco scene is the catalyst 4948 switch. 48 ports with four G-bic options for either fiber optics or standard RJ45 cables.
setting up:
this is made quite simple by the console port on the back. Using a program such as hyperterminal willl allow you to access the flash drive, and change the settings
ease of setup:
quite an easy switch to setup, it has the usual kind of cisco program, with the easy option to upgrade the firmware/ software on it. To setup a Vlan, you use the configuration terminal within. (conft)
Breakabiltity:
as it says on the box really: fragile. It can stand the usual bumps and scratches with its metal casing, but if dropped will usually break one of the ports.
Flashing:
using the console port, you can set it up to flash the firmware, and put either an upgrade or downgrade...

Cisco IP Phone 7941
Advantages: ease of use, strong, durable, linking into GAL, remote managment and upgrades from call manager.
Disadvantages: Call quality is dependant on quality of the Network. Duplex settings, over utilized network, etc
...In my experience with the Cisco IP phone 7941, which has been for 5 years or so, has been nothing but pleasure. There features to link into AD and the ability to log onto any phone in the building and look up a user on the GAL on AD is very handy indeed. Call Transfer,Conference, Mute are the standard features.
The Phones will have to be set up to work with a call manager, Which is a centre point to manage the phones, and has the ability to record conversation for quality control, etc.
They have 2 options when it comes to powering these phones, on is to buy a power adapter, the other is to buy a Cisco Switch that can supply power to the phones via Ethernet.
They are strong and reliable, they have been used as call centre phones, and we know what kind of abuse they would be put through in that environment.
All in all, i would rate...

Basic Cisco Course
Advantages: More money @ work, More Knowledge
Disadvantages: !!!!!!
...I work in the Network Security Industry & work for a company called Equant (Who provide Global Network solutions & own the largest privately owned Network in the World), & was looking for a basic level Cisco course to achieve an acreditation.
The ICND course (Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices) is an ideal course to start. Although very Cisco orientated (as you could imagine), it doe sgive you a valuable basic knowledge of how the Cisco products interact with each other & other devices & networks (ie: Novell, which has recently dumped it's own IPX protocol, in favour of IP, this makes things easier as you can now deal with IP addressing & not just MAC addresses).
I went on an ICND course provided by a company called Getronics, based in Milton Keynes, I am now planning to take the Cisco CCNA exam, which is the first Certification...

Obsolete, but perfect for Cisco exams
Advantages: Very Cheap, with lots of features
Disadvantages: Will help with CCNA, but may stuggle with CCNP
...I bought one of these routers off ebay to help with my upcoming (Cisco) CCNA exam.
These are by no means cutting edge routers, and are obsolete now as they only support 10Mbps via their AUI (lan) port and support a limited amount of protocols.
The router itself has one AUI port, which when used with a transceiver can connect to either another router or a switch (at 10Mbps); 2 serial ports which can be configured with a routing protocol such as frame relay to connect to another switch or ISP data terminal equipment, a console port to configure the router itself, and an AUX port for modem connection.
Though well past it's sell by date, the switch is perfect to get to grips with Ciscos IOS (internetwork Operating System) and set up simple routed networks in conjuction with other routers and switches.
One thing to be aware of when buying...

Dell PowerEdge 2950, universal server
Advantages: Very easy to set up and maintain
Disadvantages: Can't see any
...Power Edge is main line of Dell servers. 2950 is most universal base server from that line. If you are not sure what spec should your server have, just order it with one dual core CPU (1333MHz bus, not 1066; makes big difference), RAID5, three HDDs and 2GB of RAM (in two sticks preferably), two power supplies (it's server, reliability is it's second name).
You may find, that it's actually all you need. If not, thanks to superb case and internal build you can easilly upgrade its spec. It has two CPU slots, eight DDR2 banks, can take up to six SATAII or 8 SAS drives. It can also take any two PCI or PCI Express cards (depends which standard riser you ordered).
It come with minimum 3 years next business day onsite response warranty but it can be upgraded (althow it cost a lot more). From personal experience I have to say that Dell server...

Low Cost Enterprise Security Firewall Router
Advantages: Powerful, Easy to configure, Good support, Low cost
Disadvantages: Needs extra 'modem' for each broadband Connection, Occasional reboots required
...upgrade
- Requires a Draytek Vigor 100/110 or other router set up in a non-NAT configuration
VERDICT
I do not like the fact that you need to purchase a non-NAT router in conjunction with the 2950 for the setup and I could have done without the occasional problems but overall, I feel the 2950 is a very good router/firewall. It?s quite cheap for an Enterprise level router, especially when compared to CISCO products in the same price range, which would probably not even have the VPN function as that would most likely require an extra box to be purchased just for the VPN functionality. Otherwise, a much more expensive CISCO router with the function would be required, which would probably cost £1,000+, making the £320 for the 2950 and the £100 for the two Vigor 100s (for use with two ADSL broadband lines) seem like peanuts. However, I see...

The return of the Catalyst and the White Prophet
Advantages: It is an excellent piece of Fantasy
Disadvantages: Something really sad happens
.... The only person who can teach Dutiful to control the Skill and hide the Wit is Fitz and he does not want the job. He is free at last of his duty and doe not want to be drawn back into the intrigues of the Six Duchies Court.

However he has come to see Fitz with worrying news. The future has changed again and if Dutiful does not inherit the Six Duchies throne the world will be destroyed. Failure's Not Flattering
Advantages: A terrific album of bouncy pop punk fun.
Disadvantages: If you dislike nasal vocal performances then you probably won't like this.
...'Catalyst' is a brilliant album from New Found Glory and one with which the bands sound comes blasting out right from the word go. It's the bands fourth studio album and was released through Drive-Thru Records/Geffen back in 2004. The album consists of sixteen tracks which therefore provides for a fantastic 50 minutes of music. The albums introductory track 'Intro' is incredibly hard hitting in its approach, the guitar playing is powerful in its approach whilst the drum sound also is incredibly fast and furious; after the initial explosive introduction the band does however go back to what it does best and puts to record fifteen excellent pop punk anthems.
The bands front man Jordan Pundik possesses a very distinctive vocal tone, his vocal performance is quite nasal and this is something that you'll either love or hate. Personally I...

To network or not to network????
Advantages: can get you a very well paid job!, world wide
Disadvantages: alot of info to take in, can get very confusing!
...First of all, What is Cisco?
Cisco is a networking course, which is split into four parts, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) 1, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) 2, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) 3, and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) 4. In each CCNA, there are around 15 online mini tests which helps you to pass the final exam. In my Cisco class, we aim to do 1 mini test a week, and on the final test for each CCNA part, we must obtain, 70% or more, for a pass.
Cisco in general teaches you how to connect two or more personal computers to each other and enable them to communicate, which can be used to share a internet connection, share printers, to send files, or even have a massive game, against all your mates! which is also known as a LAN party!
Types of networks
