Cisco IP Phone 7941

Advantages: ease of use, strong, durable, linking into GAL, remote managment and upgrades from call manager.
Disadvantages: Call quality is dependant on quality of the Network. Duplex settings, over utilized network, etc

...In my experience with the Cisco IP phone 7941, which has been for 5 years or so, has been nothing but pleasure. There features to link into AD and the ability to log onto any phone in the building and look up a user on the GAL on AD is very handy indeed. Call Transfer,Conference, Mute are the standard features. The Phones will have to be set up to work with a call manager, Which is a centre point to manage the phones, and has the ability to record conversation for quality control, etc. They have 2 options when it comes to powering these phones, on is to buy a power adapter, the other is to buy a Cisco Switch that can supply power to the phones via Ethernet. Basic Cisco Course

Advantages: More money @ work, More Knowledge
Disadvantages: !!!!!!

...I work in the Network Security Industry & work for a company called Equant (Who provide Global Network solutions & own the largest privately owned Network in the World), & was looking for a basic level Cisco course to achieve an acreditation. The ICND course (Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices) is an ideal course to start. Although very Cisco orientated (as you could imagine), it doe sgive you a valuable basic knowledge of how the Cisco products interact with each other & other devices & networks (ie: Novell, which has recently dumped it's own IPX protocol, in favour of IP, this makes things easier as you can now deal with IP addressing & not just MAC addresses). I went on an ICND course provided by a company called Getronics, based in Milton Keynes, I am now planning to take the Cisco CCNA exam, which is the first Certification...

Hello Moto ROKR E1

Advantages: good little phone, with everything you need
Disadvantages: slow transfer, heavy, poor camera quality

...Well i had the previous version of this phone (the black one, with a more simple MP3 player and no video) and i liked the look and feel of the phone. So when i upgraded i chose the ROKR E1. My first thoughts were "I'VE GOT AN IPOD ON MY PHONE", however, the songs take forever to transfer from i-tunes to the phone. But do not get my wrong the quality of the MP3 player is good, it is louder than the previous version. I do find the earphones that come with it very uncomfortable though, so i usually annoy people by playing my music out loud. The previous version came with software to move your pictures from the phone to the computer, but the ROKR does not, and this is a huge disadvantage if you do not wish to delete pictures from your phone. The phones camera is ok but it is not the best, in some situations it can be very very poor...

Obsolete, but perfect for Cisco exams

Advantages: Very Cheap, with lots of features
Disadvantages: Will help with CCNA, but may stuggle with CCNP

...I bought one of these routers off ebay to help with my upcoming (Cisco) CCNA exam. These are by no means cutting edge routers, and are obsolete now as they only support 10Mbps via their AUI (lan) port and support a limited amount of protocols. The router itself has one AUI port, which when used with a transceiver can connect to either another router or a switch (at 10Mbps); 2 serial ports which can be configured with a routing protocol such as frame relay to connect to another switch or ISP data terminal equipment, a console port to configure the router itself, and an AUX port for modem connection. Though well past it's sell by date, the switch is perfect to get to grips with Ciscos IOS (internetwork Operating System) and set up simple routed networks in conjuction with other routers and switches. Refit old Cab with the WAVE MASTER TAC-T01-E1C

Advantages: Better Cooling & OPtional Directional Door Hinge, Great Looks
Disadvantages: Non

...-E1C were very easy to follow & also on inspection of the cabinet that the main cooling fan (12cm ) was mutch larger than the original fan & also there was an additional fan set in the front of the cab. I found Installing the motherboard very easy & also the CD & DVD drives which just click into place without any screws, also this was the same when installing the 2 hard drives. When connecting all the cables there was plenty of room to run th componants to each other without straighning any of the connections. The door on the WAVE MASTER TAC-T01-E1C is fitted with a movable hinge so you can alter the door on the front to open either to the left or the right "brilliant". I found that I had rebuilt my computer & had it up & running within 2 hours from beggining to end, the easy fit brackets which you do not need any screws...

...Although Slovenians do like to eat out, they tend to stay local in the evenings except for very special occasions, most favouring a particular gostilna (a local inn serving traditional fare) which they go to regularly. As a result many town centre eateries only open for lunch or until mid-evening. The lack of buses after 10pm (at least outside the capital) also has an effect on the number of city centre restaurants where you can get a meal after nine pm. For all these reasons (and possibly even in spite of) a good city centre restaurant that opens in the evenings is a rare and popular thing. In the second city, Maribor, there are a few such places, my favourite being Novi Svet pri Stolnici. It appears to also be the choice of business people entertaining guests from out of town, and large family group celebrating a special occasion...

ISDN & Win2k ?? NO !!

...After upgrading to the ISDN communicty not so long ago, and hearing so many wonderful things about Windows 2000 it dawned on me as Network Administrator that an upgrade would be a BENEFICIAL step. This cause of action brought me so many problems you would not believe... At first I had an ISDN card that promised 'Full Compliancy' so naturally I wasn't worried, WRONG !! Win2k couldn't find it present in my machine.. ok Buy a new one (coz it's faulty).. once again WRONG !! Win2k couldn't see it.. even swapping slots with network cards etc didn't help.. So eventually I made a phone call to Microsoft "..the only ISDN service available is via a USB modem.." so that's what I did, bought the modem, installed it (very easily), Win2k picked it up no problems.. and I've never had a problem with it since !!
