Cisco IP Phone 7941
Advantages: ease of use, strong, durable, linking into GAL, remote managment and upgrades from call manager.
Disadvantages: Call quality is dependant on quality of the Network. Duplex settings, over utilized network, etc
...In my experience with the Cisco IP phone 7941, which has been for 5 years or so, has been nothing but pleasure. There features to link into AD and the ability to log onto any phone in the building and look up a user on the GAL on AD is very handy indeed. Call Transfer,Conference, Mute are the standard features.
The Phones will have to be set up to work with a call manager, Which is a centre point to manage the phones, and has the ability to record conversation for quality control, etc.
They have 2 options when it comes to powering these phones, on is to buy a power adapter, the other is to buy a Cisco Switch that can supply power to the phones via Ethernet.
They are strong and reliable, they have been used as call centre phones, and we know what kind of abuse they would be put through in that environment.
All in all, i would rate...

Cisco IP-Phone 7941
Advantages: works well, has all features expected from a modern phone, easy user interface
Disadvantages: head phones are very expensive
...I have this phone on my desk and it is really excellent. I don't have any problems. It looks like new and it is used every working day.
The user interface is very easy and intuitive.
The phone has a small light which is red when the phone rings. This is great becuase all my colleagues have the same phone and sometimes we don't know which phone rings. In addition it is possible to change the ring tone.
The display has big letters, you may see what was the last missed calls.
You may forward the call to an other number.
Nothing is missing - all functions are there. I didn't manage to create my own phone book but maybe because this is an IP phone.
The phone fell on the floor more than one time and it is still working.
The speakerphone works well and you may set the volume and save the settings.
There are some variants with a colour...

Mac OS X (Complete Package)
Advantages: Very similar to Windows XP
Disadvantages: Very different from Mac OS 9
...I use an Mac for work purposes and a PC at home. On the Mac, time is of great importance and every feature that saves time saves money and there are quite a few great time saving features on Mac OS X that do just that!
If you are a PC user and currently use Windows XP then the new operating for the Apple Mac will be very appealing to you. It is very similar in many ways to that of Windows XP. One of the main differences that Mac OS X has which is one of my favourite features is that it has what is called a dock. This is a bar that can sit either at the bottom of the screen or on either side and you can use it to add in short cuts to all your software. Also if you have folders that you access alot and you don't want to keep trying to find them all the time then you can add them to the dock. All you then have to do is go to the dock...

Ulead VideoStudio 8 Complete Package
Advantages: Ease of use, SmartSound, improved audio and titling
Disadvantages: No background rendering, some new features a bit fiddly.
...and convert them to a different format in one hit. Nice to see is the support for MPEG4 (DIVX) and AC3 Dolby Digital audio as well as 16:9 footage. Note though that the first two options require plug-ins at additional cost (£13.78 each).
Ulead have done their best to ensure you have as much at your disposal as possible when it comes to creating your video masterpieces. One things still sorely lacking though is background rendering. Until you prepare your final output either to tape or DVD/CD, no rendering is done. Pinnacle's Studio 9 does this in the background as you work and it's a great time saver when filters and effects have been used.
Conclusion
Whilst I felt some of the newer features could have been more intuitive in use, they all added to what was already an impressive package. I wasn't much impressed by the Movie Wizard but that...

BackUp MyPC Deluxe Complete package
Advantages: Supports a wide range of devices and media types
Disadvantages: Limited scheduling
...scheduler offering the ability to do a full backup of all files on a designated day of the week and optionally to do an incremental one on the other days. I wasn't very impressed with this and felt this option seriously lacked flexibility. The only saving grace it had was that you could specify the user account and password this task would run under to ensure it completed successfully even if someone else was using the PC
Finally, there is Disaster Recovery Preparation. This analyses the PC before recommending exactly what you need to do a full recovery from scratch in the case of total loss of the hard drive or a similar catastrophic failure. I tried it on a test laptop which it duly analysed before advising we needed a Windows XP Pro CD, 4 floppy disks and a blank DVD-R. All well and good but the laptop had no floppy disk drive so that was...

Basic Cisco Course
Advantages: More money @ work, More Knowledge
Disadvantages: !!!!!!
...I work in the Network Security Industry & work for a company called Equant (Who provide Global Network solutions & own the largest privately owned Network in the World), & was looking for a basic level Cisco course to achieve an acreditation.
The ICND course (Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices) is an ideal course to start. Although very Cisco orientated (as you could imagine), it doe sgive you a valuable basic knowledge of how the Cisco products interact with each other & other devices & networks (ie: Novell, which has recently dumped it's own IPX protocol, in favour of IP, this makes things easier as you can now deal with IP addressing & not just MAC addresses).
I went on an ICND course provided by a company called Getronics, based in Milton Keynes, I am now planning to take the Cisco CCNA exam, which is the first Certification...

Obsolete, but perfect for Cisco exams
Advantages: Very Cheap, with lots of features
Disadvantages: Will help with CCNA, but may stuggle with CCNP
...I bought one of these routers off ebay to help with my upcoming (Cisco) CCNA exam.
These are by no means cutting edge routers, and are obsolete now as they only support 10Mbps via their AUI (lan) port and support a limited amount of protocols.
The router itself has one AUI port, which when used with a transceiver can connect to either another router or a switch (at 10Mbps); 2 serial ports which can be configured with a routing protocol such as frame relay to connect to another switch or ISP data terminal equipment, a console port to configure the router itself, and an AUX port for modem connection.
Though well past it's sell by date, the switch is perfect to get to grips with Ciscos IOS (internetwork Operating System) and set up simple routed networks in conjuction with other routers and switches.
One thing to be aware of when buying...

Microsoft's XP Package
Advantages: Great new feel, built in firewall, virus protection & automatic updates
Disadvantages: Slow at times, hackers target it
...connection or a DVD player, these are just extra things that allow you to do more with your computer. You DO have to have all the things in the System Requirements part, though, otherwise the computer won't work very well.
--- Which package? ---
You are now probrably wandering whether you should get Home or Professional. To be completely honest, you don't really need Professional, it's just got a few extra features, but comes at a much higher price. I have XP Home and I use the computer for business, and it works completely fine.
But when it comes to upgrading that's different. You must be completely sure that the current operating sytem can be upgraded to XP. Please look below for information about this.
Upgrading to Windows XP Home:
Windows 3.1 - NO
Any Evaluation Version - NO
Any Server Version - NO
Windows 95 - NO
Windows 98...

Death by a thousand cuts or a brilliant presentation package?
Advantages: A great tool for the creation of formal and educational presentations.
Disadvantages: Takes time and practice to become a confident, competent user.
...Death by a thousand cuts or a brilliant presentational package?MS PowerPoint
MS PowerPoint is a powerful graphics programme that has transformed the manner in which we prepare and deliver presentations. You can create, customise, animate and print presentations. It enables you to communicate information clearly and effectively. Many computers come with this package already installed. The MS PowerPoint version that I use is the 2003 package for Students and Teachers, working on an XP laptop. This package costs £40.00 from Amazon, if bought separately, and is operated through Windows. The 2003 version has been superceded by newer, more sophisticated versions, the latest being MS PowerPoint 2007. However, I still find the 2003 version perfectly adequate for my present needs.
There are many online training packages, much...
