This review, I'm afraid, comes four years too late, as the Saxo went out of production in the year 2000. It has since been replaced by a more 21st century, bubble-like car, the C3. There no question that the C3 is the nicer of the two, with its chic French curves, however at £9.000 it's not to everyone's liking. And so we come to the humble Saxo. Weighing in at 805kg the Saxo is very small, so obviously would not be suitable for big families, or indeed for people with big legs which invariably get crushed if they sit in the back seats. Saxo- Excellent first car!!!

Advantages: Easy on petrol, Insurance, Ignition code
Disadvantages: None that ive came across!!

...My first car- Great on insurance, Petrol and tax. I would have to say that a major plus on this car is the ignition code.....I recently left the lights on and the battery died (easily done)...(silly girl) but because of the ignition code that only i know it was impossible to push start this car!!! I then had to go and get a set off jump leads but again unless you know the code you will not start this car!! Which is a good thing if you dont have the money to keep replacing your car!!!! It can also if you have a short temper be a bit of a pain because still after 2 months of owning the car i forget to put the code before i start the car!!! Overall i would defo reccommend for first time drivers especially!! :) :)...

...Myself and my son recently visited our local Citroen dealer because we organised a test drive on a 1.1i Saxo First. This was because my son is currently looking for a new car to replace his very reliable but ageing current motor, a Citroen AX. The Saxo has always attracted my son with its good looks and decent performance, but interestingly enough he was interested in the smallest engine option of the First. There are several reasons for this, all unbelievably and unusually sensible coming form my son!! Firstly the 1124cc engine keeps insurance costs down and also it is very light on the drink when it comes to the petrol pump. Citroen Saxo 1.1i SX

Advantages: good looking, decent spec, nice to drive, nippy

...This is a great little car which I highly recommend. Yes, it's got a few faults (which car hasn't) but so far it's given me 2 years of pretty much trouble free motoring. It's nice looking (MUST have foglights or it looks incomplete!), stereo is adequate, has central locking, sunroof, keypad immobiliser, economical (450 miles of town driving on a tank), electric windows. Mine has been nicknamed Saxo-van due to its great carrying capacity. The back seats are quick and easy to fold down, and we managed to get a large sideboard in it (with the boot closed too!) which wouldn't fit in a new golf! It's very nippy, and smooth and quiet to drive. Even when travelling at 70 - 80 mph it's still got some oomph! Two little niggles:- 1) the pedals are too close together - takes a while to stop hitting the accelerator when you want...

Cheap and cheerful car- Saxo is reliable and economic.

Advantages: Very economical to run, responsive, handles well, fits into tight parking spaces.
Disadvantages: No central locking, can be uncomfortable on long distances.

...The Citroen Saxo 1.0 is the car currently sitting on my driveway and is my first ever car. I have been driving for just over a year now and I have no burning desire to upgrade yet. Why? Because the Saxo is incredibly efficient in many ways and is perfect for someone watching their bank balance in these tough economic times. First of all, my car is unmodified and will stay that way whilst I am the owner. This brings me on to the issue of reputation. Many cars of this model are hammered around with bits of plastic stuck on them and can be seen as an undesirable car. Don't let this put you off. If you look after it, it is a great little runner. I purchased this car in September 2000 (X-reg). I chose the colour Poseidon Blue (Metalic). At the time Citroen were giving a years free insurance away with the car, which as a young male driver this I found was invaluable. The basic on the road cost of the car was around £7200 after the cash back deal. (£800 pounds at the time). With a 1.1i petrol engine (1124cc) you will find the Saxo usually does around 45 miles per gallon even when you give it some stick. Citoren Saxo VTR

Advantages: Speed,Comfort,Looks,Drive

...I have had a Citroen Saxo VTR now for 9 months, which I have enjoyed every minute of. The car itself on looks, in my view is amazing, the Mark 2 version which I own has more curved headlights than the Mark 1 version with more rectangular shaped lights, personally I prefer the former. The poseidon blue paintwork shines very well in sunlight, and is very eye catching. The interior is a bit tacky and very rattly at times, especially driving along uneven roads. The rattle does get annoying at times, but with the car's sound system at a moderate volume you do not notice it at all! The seats of the Saxo look like they've come straight out of the 80's, the Peugeot 106 leather seats would have been a lot better option for the car. Saxo VTR pocket rocket that kept stalling!

The Interior of the car This paticular saxo had an upgraded interior with a very nice 'velour' type material, which compared to other saxo's I've driven and been in was much more comfortable and looked a lot smarter. It also had two rear headrests which others do not come with. There was a driver's airbag, which comes with all VTR's, and I would say Citroen should have definitely installed a passenger airbag like on the VTS, due to the amount of crashes I have seen with these cars! Citroen saxo 1.0i

Advantages: Cheap to run, no problems with them.
Disadvantages: not much space in the back.

...The Citroen saxo 1.0i is a great little car for a young person who has just pass their test, i have always loved this car when they first come out in 1996. The little 1.0i engine is a small engine but is still a nippy car around town. It is good for petrol it don't drink that much but the style of the standed one looks abit boring. The boot is big enough to get a good lot of shopping in there or your speakers if you like them in there. The saxo has power steering but thats it, it don't have a ^ sunroof ^ front spot lights ^ allow wheels ^ cd player just a tape/cassette player ^ body kits stuff like that but that don't matter because its still a good little car and cheap and Reliable. they hold their price well, but if you want something better like faster and better looking then go for the VTR OR VTS....
