A Merchants Tale
Advantages: Lovely surroundings and great food
Disadvantages: The location of the toilets
...I think that you could eat out for a year in Lancaster and be able to find somewhere new to eat everyday. One place that you must not miss out on if visiting the city is the wonderful little pub that has recently changed it's name from The Merchants to Merchants 1668.
Built in 1688 ( hence the name!!) the building was originally used as a wine cellar for Lancaster Castle and is part of the same building as the tourist information office. This tiny little pub is in Market Street just a stone throw away from the railway station in the road to the Castle and Priory. Set in Castle Hill opposite the main post office in Lancaster it is lovely little pub full of character and old world charm.
Recently taken over by new management the Merchant offers an incredible menu of locally produced food - and fits into the Gastropub bracket...

The Merchant Adventurers' Hall, York
Advantages: Lots of history
Disadvantages: Admission charges
...I have been to York many times but prior to my most recent visit I had never been to The Merchant Adventurers Hall. I had seen the signs for it but I was never too sure what it was and since its tucked away out of sight from the main thoroughfares it's a place I always forget to check out. A friend recently told me that this is a 14th century timber framed building that is the largest building of its type and age in Britain so I figured that this time around I ought to check it out.
Built as a medieval guildhall in 1368 this is probably the oldest surviving building in York, although in an historical city like York there are several other places that also stake this claim. It is not to be confused with the nearby Merchant Taylor's Hall, which was a mistake that I initially made.
The Merchant Adventurers' Hall is tucked away down...

'Merchant' shows Will power
Advantages: Great story; fine acting from main characters
Disadvantages: Modern viewers may find Anti-Semitism disturbing
...***This opinion reveals major details about the film's plot, but they can be avoided.***
The time
Mid to late 16th century. There is tension between the Jews and the Christians. The Jews can lend money and demand interest; the Christians cannot.
The place
Venice, place of barges, canals and far more water than modern viewers will be used to; also home to a gaggle of bare-breasted prostitutes who appear occasionally
The players
Antonio, the merchant after whom the play and film are named: Jeremy Irons
His protégé, Bassanio: Joseph Fiennes
Bassanio's friend Gratiano: Kris Marshall
Lorenzo, another member of Bassanio's retinue: Charlie Cox
Shylock, a Jewish moneylender: played magnificently by Al Pacino
Portia, Bassanio's love interest: Lynn Collins
Nerissa, Portia's maid: Heather Goldenhersh
Jessica, Shylock's daughter...

The best restaurant in Glasgow??
Advantages: Delicious food, attentive staff, central location, best haggis in Glasgow!
Disadvantages: Bit expensive!
...City Merchant is my personal favourite among restaurants in Glasgow. It is located in the Merchant City (confusing I know!)part of Glasgow which is centred around Merchants square - so named as was originally built for the Glasgow Fruit Market. Merchant Square is found on Candleriggs, Bell Street and Albion Street with entrances to the square from each street. This is only 5mins walk from George Square. There are numerous bars located in Merchant square which are good for a drink after your meal if you fancy it!
Opposite the candleriggs entrance of Merchant Square, you will find the City Merchant restaurant. This restaurant is known as a seafood restaurant, but for the non-fish lovers out there like me, I assure you they have plenty of other dishes! (see below for details and a link to their website for menus)
The exterior...

CITY CHIC
Advantages: smells nice, fantastic staying power
Disadvantages: too strong and heavy for some
...City Glam is a fragrance which was first released in 2005 by Giorgio Armani; I have always liked the Giorgio Armani fragrances and have quite a few of them in my perfume collection so as soon as I spotted City Glam in my local Chemist's I had to buy it, and I knew I would like it. I paid £25 for a small 30ml bottle of City Glam Eau De Parfum approximately 7 months ago although Boots sell a 30ml bottle of the perfume for £22 according to their website.
As you can see from the picture at the top of this review the bottle of perfume is supplied in a tall cylindrical pink bottle, which City Glam written in silver lettering. I think that the bottle looks quite stylish and plain because it is supplied in a metal tin as opposed to a glass bottle. Most of the Emporio Armani fragrances for both men and women are supplied in the metal tins...

City of Ember Smoulders Without Really Catching Light
Advantages: A fun, well told family adventure
Disadvantages: Underdeveloped characters. Understated ending.
...INTRODUCTION
Every now and again a film will kind of sneak up on you and take you completely by surprise. I knew my wife had wanted to see ?City of Ember? at the cinema, but I had taken one look at the trailer and dismissed it out of hand. However, when it made a recent appearance on the Sky Movies schedule, I relented, thinking that, without the added investment of having to buy cinema tickets, a bucket of popcorn and perhaps more importantly, using up a rare night out, I could always fall asleep on the couch if I wanted to.
SYNOPSIS
The film starts out with a flashback to a time when the fate of mankind is in the balance. An unidentified catastrophe is soon to make the earth uninhabitable, so a group of scientists (American obviously ? they?re always American) create an underground city, called Ember, to which...

Lego City 8401- Mini Collection
Advantages: Cost, Design,
Disadvantages: Choking Hazzord
...Lego City 8401 Minifigure Collection
If your child likes Lego then this is something that will be well received by them, this set can be added on to any current set to enhance the child?s enjoyment whilst playing.
I am reviewing Lego City 8401 which is the mini set of people and posts
This is now my third review of a Lego product and as always I will include a link to the Lego website at the bottom of the review to allow you to obtain more information on Lego.
Assembling
Firstly parents this particular product is aimed at children over the age of 5, Even if your child is over 5 I would always recommend you supervise them when assembling.
This set is different from the rest as it has many little items to be made up; when you open the box as usual you will have a very colour full instruction booklet which will...

a surprising city
Advantages: a few gems - worth a short visit
Disadvantages: after a few days you may be struggling
...Kansas City is not the first city that would spring to mind for a city break, you may even be hard pushed to find it on the map and even more surprised to find that it is actually in the state of Missouri and not Kansas.
However an American Travel organisation has recently named it as one of the top ten overlooked cities and while it most certainly is not like a new york or san francisco there are some gems to be had in this city.
It is often nicknamed as the city of fountains as there are seemingly over 200 in the city and who knew that Kansas City is the BBQ capital of the world. And boy do they do BBQ restaurants, never being one to miss out on a speciality i paid a visit to a recommended BBQ restaurant Jack Stack Barbecue, one of 4 in downtown Kansas City. I have to admit the food was pretty good, great beef, pork and chicken...

The Merchant of Venice
Advantages: Shakespeare's timeless genius.
Disadvantages: A difficult read for some.
...King Lear claims to be a man 'more sinned against than sinning' and in 'The Merchant of Venice' we meet Shylock the Jewish money lender who fits that description perfectly.
The decadent adventurer, Bassanio, has lost the money his friend, Antonio has lent him and has the cheek to borrow more. Antonio is forced to borrow off Shylock in order to make the loan. The condition Shylock stipulates is a pound of flesh should the loan not be repaid when agreed. It's an odd choice but the Christians are pretty nasty to him so he is very bitter.
Off Bassanio goes in search of a rich wife again and does very well.
He meets Portia who is loaded and all he has to do is pass a guess-the-casket test to win her heart. She fancies him so she cheats the test with a poem in which all the rhymes end in 'ed' and therefore point him to the lead...

Lego City 7686 - 3 for the price of 1 -
Advantages: Cost, Design, Look, Fun Factor
Disadvantages: None So Far
...Lego City 7686
As many people will be aware Lego has a huge selection of sets available to buy, my now 6 year old son has fallen in to the City range. The range is very extensive and prices range from as little as a few pounds for a simple set to the rather upmarket sets which cost a few hundred pounds. This set sits nicely in the middle of the set when you compare the amount of pieces, value for money and the overall design of the product.
I am reviewing Lego City 7686 which is Helicopter Transporter
Just like I add to all my Lego reviews, if you want to read any of the history of the Lego Company I have included there link at the bottom of this review for you.
Assembling the products
Firstly this particular set is aimed at the age range of 5yrs ? 12yrs, the box is a fair size and your little one will struggle to...
