City University, expensive and exhausting.

Advantages: good rep, ..... ?
Disadvantages: Expensive, poor facilities, lack of student support, student union,

...I looked at a few Universities, Greenwich, Coventry, Birmingham and City University. Initially I worked out the costs of all the Universities and City/ or Greenwich was the cheapest of them. I'd live at home, commute, and work weekends. 1st problem is that commuting doesn't take the average hour that it used to, especially in the morning, I have commuted befotre at this time but obviously not continuiously throughout the week, boy was I in for a shock. 2 hours each way, if your lucky from Southend to Islington, costs are now £87.50 per week, which rose from £69 per week, which I hadn't realised could happen. The next is that I visited other Uni's to see what factilities they had and if they were helpful, City came outright the top, next was Greenwich and the others followed. I would have to say I was pleasantly surprised...

Review of City University London

Shop and dine at Universal City Walk!

Advantages: Great fun and things to do after a long day in the theme park
Disadvantages: Not as good as Downtown Disney

...What is it?? Universal City Walk is located at Universal Orlando in Florida, USA and is Universal's answer to the Downtown Disney complex at Walt Disney World. It is nowhere near as large as Downtown Disney, but nevertheless offers a ranges of shops, dining and entertainment experiences to keep you busy after a day in the two Universal theme parks. Universal City Walk is located between the two theme parks (Universal Florida and the new Islands of Adventure). If you walk out of either theme park you can't miss it!! Shopping There are quite a variety of shops here that are interesting to browse around and buy from, but as with shops at Walt Disney World, you won't find too many bargains!! Review of Universal Studios City Walks Orlando

City University

Advantages: Compact area of study, easily mix with others
Disadvantages: Spread out campuses, not much interaction with these

...The University of Central England, the former Birmingham Polytechnic has now been rebranded yet again as Birmingham City University to give it that metropolitan edge. Its main campus at Perry Barr is a 15 min walk across playing fields to where I live. City University, by sheer student numbers is one of the largest Universities in the country, matching that of many of the 'red-brick' universities. Moreover, its size is not apparent when you arrive at one of its campuses. This is because it is the only university with campuses spread out over a city wide area (I think at least 6 campuses) totalling to about 25,000 students. Financially, it has been one of richer universities and certainly one of highest cashflow universities from the former polytechnics. And yes, it is true their was talk of taking some more of Aston University...

Review of Central England University

City uni with country appeal

Advantages: Nice campus, friendly feel.
Disadvantages: Accomodation is expensive compared to others

...I did a 3 year law degree at Exeter and am now about to finsh my LPC qualification. 4 years at this place has given me a fair idea of how it works. There are 2 campuses; the main one which is about 15 minutes from Exeter St Davids train station, and about 15 minutes from the city, with the bus station; and St Lukes (sports science, teacher training and medicine) which is about 10 minutes from town in the opposite direction. There is a bus service (currently the 'D' route-although the bus company do keep renaming it) which connects the two campuses and town every 15 minutes or so. The main campus contains all subjects other than those mentionned above. One thing to note is that Exeter Uni is built on a big hill. This is not really a place for those adverse to walking. Although it is not a big campus, and everything is easy to get...

A Universal experience

Advantages: Great rides, lots of fun

...as the heavens decided to open so we had to take shelter under a picnic table umbrella for about an hour while the rain stopped. Once it had we headed through the City Walk (the area between the parks which is filled with restaurants and bars) to Universal. The first thing we did was have a photo outside the famous Universal sign (see picture)! Once we had got through the gates with our passes (you scan them to get through) we headed straight for our first attraction, Shrek 4D. For those of you who may have visited Universal in the past, some of the old rides have been changed to keep up with new films. This one used to be the Alfred Hitchcock attraction 'The Birds', which I used to find quite scary! Great city, great uni

...Edinburgh is a fantastic place to live, in fact as an American tourist said to me the other day 'what a great little town'. Well yes, i can see where he's coming from because Edinburgh doesn't FEEL like a city at all. Particularly if you live in Pollock Halls you have the countryside (Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags) on your doorstep and there is always the Meadows by George Square campus and (studentville) Marchmont. Edinburgh has lots to do - The clubs are pretty good and there is always somewhere cheap and cheerful to go. 'Scrubway' (sorry, thats Subway) West End on Lothian Road is your best bet for that, but if you want somewhere a bit classier but equally cheesy I would recommed Eros&Elite (A big two-room club with a free bus from Pollock Halls) or Espionage (on about five floors so you are guaranteed to get lost inside...

...I have completed my first year at City University and I am heading into my second year! My experience of City has been overall positive. The year before I did a year at Goldsmiths University and decided it was not right for me and did not go back. Everything that I thought lacked in Goldsmiths for me, I found at City University! City is a decent university, admittedly not one of the very top but is still respected in its own way. I stayed at Walter Sickert Halls, and they were enjoyable especially when you make friends obviously. The rooms were very nice; I had a very big room too, much to the envy of my friends! Oxford Brookes is a good University in a beautiful city

Advantages: Good facilities for teaching, socialising and sports

...As a Postgraduate Student at Oxford Brookes I had high hope when I enrolled. I have found the the teaching facilities and equipment very good. The buildings themselves in some departments are a little old fashioned on the exterior, but the interior makes up for it. There are many societies and clubs which are very active within the Students' Union. The nightlife on campus is good with events happening on most nights at the different bars around campus. Being within easy reach of the city, I feel, means that you can tailor your student experience in the way you want. Oxford itself has more of a pub than club culture, but there are some good clubs out there too, which I think compliment the club nights at the Student Union very well. Life in the City

Advantages: Being in the heart of London, diversity of its students

...I studied at City for 3 years, and have to say I enjoyed my time there very much. It was very daunting at first - arriving as a fresher, first time away from home, family & friends into a pretty harsh looking concrete jungle. I spent my first year in halls (Finsbury Hall) which was definitely the rigth decision. Although the rooms are nothing to write home about, and neither is the 'meals' provided for those with catered accommodation, the social aspect, location and relative cheapness of rent more than makes up for it! Located just off Goswell Road, you are around 5-10 minutes walk from the main part of the University, about 30 minutes walk to Oxford street and the West End, and with some of London's most famous landmarks are within 20 minutes walk (St. Pauls, the Guildhall, the Thames). ...I would not recommended this Uni, and would definitely think twice before spending or going into dept to get a degree from Westminster University. Getting the right degree from a good University these days is very important and Westminster University cannot provide it (again based on my experience).
