MARIE CLAIRE.
Advantages: A great magazine with good content.
Disadvantages: At the dearer end of the market.
...-MARIE CLAIRE-
"Marie claire presents new, innovative and inspirational ideas, combining style with commonsense. A magazine of contrasts, it beckons its readers with pages of the finest fashion, beauty and food. It's a winning formula of serious journalism and a healthy dose of glamour".
Marie Claire is a thick glossy monthly magazine from IPC Media and it is Jam packed full of interesting articles that are topical and highly interesting. It celebrates its 15th year of production and it is aimed at the prime 25-39 age market. Marie Claire is a high quality, better than average, woman's fashion and beauty magazine and Its readership is over 15 million each month worldwide. -
I have been buying Marie Claire on and off for quite a few years now. They always have such great gifts offered with this magazine and the month...

MARIE CLAIRE
Advantages: HIGHLIGHTS ISSUES ABOUT WOMEN IN OTHER CULTURES
Disadvantages: FULL OF ADS, PATRONISING!!
...MARIE - CLAIRE
I used to buy this magazine in my twenties, but then stopped. I now only read it at the hairdressers. This is why:
***WHAT DOES IT OFFER?***
Marie-Claire is a fashion magazine with special interest articles aimed at women. It's motto is "Fashion With Heart" and it is priced at £3.30. This month's issue (Jan) has 244 pages, plus a 32 page special about hair at the back (confusingly upside down).
It has an expensive glossy feel to it with heavy quality pages. However a rough estimation tells me that over 50% of it's content is ads!!. In fact, I leaf through 8 pages of ads before I even get to the editorial. Many of the ads are for high end designer companies such as Prada, Gucci and Armani.
The magazine aims to publish stories about inspirational women and takes an ethical stance (also having a 'green...

Blooming great
Advantages: nice maternity clothes
Disadvantages: a bit pricey
...Being pregnant puts you in a bit of a tight spot wardrobe wise. I don?t want to wear a bin liner whilst I expand to the size of a small house, but going overboard on a wardrobe that is only going to be worn for about five months seems a waste of money.
I never realised just how limited the choice of maternity clothes are. Few high street shops stock maternity clothes and those that do don?t necessarily have a maternity collection in all their branches.
Blooming Marvellous is a bit of a godsend. Unfortunately there are only ten branches throughout the country. They have an internet site www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk, where you can order items and see a range of their clothes. Half the stock is maternity wear, whilst the other half is baby wear. So it?s very tempting to pick up some baby clothes whilst I?m looking for things...

It's not Claire's, it's MINE
Advantages: Cheap an cheerful goodies
Disadvantages: Sometimes a little busy!!
...I don’t have a daughter, I would have liked one but someone, somewhere decided to punish me and ‘bless’ me with 3 sons instead. LISTEN UP……I am only joking!!!!! I love my boys to bits and wouldn’t change them for the world….!!
But not having a daughter I had no idea that places like Claire’s Accessories existed! What have I been missing? Well I know now! When the one on our nearby town opened up years ago I briefly noticed it on one of my rare visits into town, but dismissed it as another, here-today-gone-next-week junk shop!
Oh how the mighty fall!
I found myself in the town the other week, well I didn’t really ‘find’ myself there, (I am still looking and doubt now that I will ever ‘find’ myself!) and had some time to kill. Now I usually visit...

Claire's untidy, expensive accessories
Advantages: No queues as they're never busy
Disadvantages: expensive and cluttered
...Claire's accessories moved to Harlow a few years ago, much to the delight of everyone as it was a welcome newcomer being that it was the first specialist hair-care and odds'n'ends shop in the town. Up until then we had to rely on a market stall or small ranges offered by various other shops and supermarkets.
I give it fair ratings that the stuff they offer is in keeping with current trends, keeping today's girls whatever age kitted out in the fashion, but (always a but) the shop needs a little attention in the following areas:
It's not just school age girlies who want to be trendy so how about making it a little less cluttered for us 'mumsies' to get a pushchair around inside without the worry of knocking the person next to you out with the swing of a Tesco's carrier? I've only got a single pushchair so I pity those with a double...

* Get Fit With Claire *
Advantages: Fun
Disadvantages: Not many!
...yet , although having said that , I havn't really been strict with my exercise regime , only doing the DVD now and again. Although after a few regular uses , I could see that my arms and legs looked a little more toned which was good.
One thing that annoys me about these celebrity fitness DVDs , is that they put their names on these DVD as though they are the presenters. Although when you actually turn on the actual DVD , it's a fitness instructor that presents it , which is annoying considering most people only buy it because they like the celebrity who's promoting it, even if they only 'dance' alongside the instructor. One thing I liked about Claire though , was the fact , that she was quite quiet and didn't talk much at all which I thought was good because it meant I was concentrating more on my moves rather than what she was saying...

Covering my Blooming Bump
Advantages: Good selection, decent value, stock available
Disadvantages: Fashions could be more up-to-date
...When you are pregnant, choosing clothes can be a bit of a nightmare. Even for someone who loves to shop, like me, when you?re carrying around a big bulge and none of your clothes fit you anymore ? desperation can sink in.
I am now 3 months pregnant and all but one of my trousers have stopped fitting me. I knew it was bad when the flies on my jeans started spontaneously unzipping themselves!
But as a first time pregnant woman, I wasn?t sure where to head in a hurry. So my first stop was the mail-order catalogues: Blooming Marvellous and JoJo Maman Bebe. In this op, I?m going to tell you about my experience of Blooming Marvellous.
** CHOOSING WHAT YOU WANT **
Blooming Marvellous has a 100-page catalogue, full of maternity fashion, baby clothes, furniture and toys for the nursery, and maternity ?essentials? such as...

Absolutely Blooming Marvellous
Advantages: Great devices for making Life with a baby easier
Disadvantages: can be pricey
...Blooming Marvellous is a great shop for helpful baby items that I have never found elsewhere.
I first heard of Blooming Marvellous when a friend told me about it, when my son was only 3 months old (he is now 2). I was out with him and trying to warm up a bottle for him using a bottle warmer I had purchased from boots. It was one of these where you press a little button and set off an exothermic reaction. It wasn't that great at warming the bottle and once it had been used once that was it. My friend suggested I try Blooming Marvellous where they sold special designed flasks for warming bottles. I bought one and it was brilliant it was a flask with a long lid that you could fill with boiling water and stand the bottle in, can be used more than once. That was my first of many purchases from Blooming Marvellous
What can you buy in...

Marvellous... Blooming Marvellous
Advantages: Great selection
Disadvantages: A bit pricey
...I was desperate to start showing when I was pregnant and then when I did, I was desperate for decent maternity clothes. A few people recommended that I tried Blooming Marvellous. I?d never heard of them before but then again, why should I have?

CHESTER STORE LAYOUT:
Unfortunately, if you?ve ever visited Chester, you will know that some of the shops, being in very old buildings, have to work with the space and do what they can. Because of this, Blooming Marvellous is on two heights with a few steps down half way in the store. It is really inconvenient if you have a pram but if you haven...

Ear Piercing @ Claire's
Advantages: quick, painless, friendly staff, good hygiene
Disadvantages: too close to display window, can be crowded in some places
...After almost 27 years with half-healed non-usable odd pierced holes on my earlobes, I decided today to get girly again and get them re-pierced (and partly preparing for my wedding next year!).
After searching on the net to find local ear piercing service I found Claire's. I did pass a couple of 'body-piercing' shops in town but both do tattooes as well, and the sight of that made me shudder a bit hence never even walked into these shops.
Claire's seemed less intimidating (apart from the area they do it is right next to the entrance to the shop at the display window, so if you don't mind being watched then enjoy your 10 minute fame!)
I have to say the staff are very friendly and helpful. Pre-procedure hygiene is adequate and maintained throughout (we are not talking general anaesthetic operation here so 'full consistent...
