Claremont Hotel, Blackpool

Advantages: Lovely staff, great location, Facilities, Cost!
Disadvantages: Ummm...oh, parking.

...We have stayed in both the Claremont Hotel and their Motel apartments, both of which we had a great time. A group of us decided that we would take a trip down to Blackpool during the summer for a weekend stay from Friday - Sunday. We browsed through loads of hotels with one thing in mind - PRICE! For the 2 nights staying at the Motel it cost £75 each - but check the website to get an up to date tariff. The £75 was for the room only - we didn't want to pay for bed and breakfast, we just get breakfast if we fancy it, or are awake when it is being served! The hotel has a Motel in a separate building to the back of the hotel, which is laid out like a block of flats. Pricing of food and drinks from the bar is very fair, but you would be cheaper in a pub (as with most hotels). We went to Blackpool in August, and were lucky to have...

A Peaceful Oasis in the Heart of Suburban Surrey

Advantages: Beautifully maintained. Atmsopheric. Tranquil and calm.
Disadvantages: Can get busy in high season.

My knickers smell lovely!

...So there I am wandering around the local garden centre gift shop looking at all the gifts and wondering why people would even want to buy half of them! I get to the display of Claremont and May products and I stopped for a cursory sniff. I can?t resist it you see ? if there is a display of smellies I just have to stop and have a sniff! I rarely buy anything as I know these things loose their smell pretty much as soon as you get out of the door of the shop! I happened to pick up one of those little sacks that you put in with your knickers ? when they are in the drawer not when you?re wearing them (unless you REALLY want to!). ...series, personally I like seeing the alternate universes and the alternate character development, some of the stories are better than others but as a whole series its a compelling and enjoyable read, there are a few storylines that develop over a longer period, and some of the short stories included are reliant on some background knowledge, but generally each book is a fairly self sufficient story, and they mostly conclude in each graphic novel (so do not panic buy them all - you can take you time!) <Spoiler Warning - Some Plot/Story details> Oh, Chris Claremont is here, and look here is ROMA from the 1980's X-men, and owe look they have replaced one of the key characters with his favourite Psylocke, and omigawd what's happening to this book??? Review of Exiles: Enemy of the Stars - Chris Claremont

Exiles: Volume 16 Starting Over

Advantages: it gets good again, the final story is excellent, the iron man joke a classic
Disadvantages: Complete change of characters (so soon!) story concludes in another book

...I want to start buying the new Exiles books based with Chris Claremont at the helm, sure I'm weak and I'll probably have a look but it just won't be the same. The final story in this book is actually really good, probably because Chris hasn't written it, it's a sort of retelling of the legend of the exiles and is a great part of the overall mythology created by the team. There are some great characters and revisiting some of the Exiles saved worlds. Quentin Quire (Omega Telepath/kinetic) is back, Julie Power from Power pack is in here! And Wiccan and the Cuckoos too. Quentin goes on a journey to find the Exiles revisiting their worlds and manages to pick up the Tallus left by Gambit when he killed Hyperion way way back. There are various worlds visited, we even get to see Codename Spitfire from the Starbrand universe. A new Exiles...

Choice Hotels in Blackpool

...I know, I know, Blackpool is perceived as fish'n'chips, bucket and spades, amusement arcades, B&B's. What about something different? Choice Hotels in Blackpool run 3 hotels - The Claremont (near the North Pier), the Talk of The North (near South Pier) and the Cliffs Hotel (North Promenade just up from Gynn Square). My family and I have stayed at the Cliffs Hotel on 6 occasions, ranging from weekend breaks to full weeks. Why? The hotel is large and well appointed - it has a 1920's feel about the facade and interior and is very clean and spacios. There are 5 bars and a large resturant. The food is excellent with a very good selection - the staff are very helpful and friendly. There is a well appointed leisure club - free to residents. Advantages: A good read in the standard MacLean style
Disadvantages: Slightly disappointing ending

Even before the journey starts though there is action as two army officers disappear and Nathan Pearce (US Marshal) arrests the wanted outlaw John Deakin. Pearce and Deakin join the train as it starts to make it's way through Paiute Indian territory. Onboard is a train fall of soldiers under the command of Colonel Claremont, Governor Fairchild and his niece, a vicar and doctor, as well as a number of other key individuals. The book does provide a list of the characters to help the reader place all of them, as well as a plan of the train.
