Can Clean & Clear really live up to its claims?

Advantages: small number of ingredients, soothes the skin, cleans the skin
Disadvantages: doesn't seem to live up to its claim of eliminating blackheads completely

...Tempted, rather than convinced by its claims to reduce the appearance of blackheads from day one, I bought a 200ml bottle of Clean&Clear Blackhead Clearing Cleanser for just over £3. On comparision with other products too, I noticed that it had less ingredients in it than the others, and on the basis that it was a product that appeared more natural (having less chemicals in it) I plumped for this one. I've been using it for 3 months, and I still have just less than half a bottle (around 85ml) left. Packaging In a transparent deep purpley-blue bottle, this product is quite attractive, It features one of those clip 'n' flip lids which I have found great to use since it means it can be opened and closed quickly and easily, unlike similar bottles with screwtops where the lid can fall and get lost easily. Clean, not that Clear

Advantages: Exfoliates, relatively inexpensive
Disadvantages: Messy, too coarse, not sure it actually *prevents* blackheads forming

...I bought this scrub in Tesco at a price of £3.28 for 145ml. I bought it because the product I wanted to buy (a Biore product priced at £4.98 for 140ml) was unavailable, and this seemed like a reasonably priced alternative. Also, Clean & Clear is a well-known brand made by the giant Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical company. The scrub comes in a blue tube that stands on a purple flip-top cap. The blue is graduated from dark at the top through to a lighter blue at the bottom, where the message "with natural jojoba beads to lift away dirt and oil and help clear blackheads" is displayed. Now, I don't know about you, but whenever I hear the word "jojoba" I think of the Billy Connolly sketch about shampoos, but there is actually a good reason for it being in skincare products. Keep Those Evil Blackheads at Bay!

At first I only used this product once a day on my nose and didn't notice any reduction in my blackheads. But after using it around 3-5 times a day, i saw a definite difference. It solved my blackhead problem and made it much less noticeable. There are 70 pads altogether, the pads come beaded on one side and in the other just soft. I had no more blackheads. ...Someone up there is laughing at me. They sent me all the way through adolescence with wonderful skin and I took it for granted. I didn't really cleanse properly. I just used whatever cleansing lotion as lying around. I got the odd spot but it was gone in a few days. Then I moved to London from my lovely countryside home and my skin went mental. The problem with the air round here is that it doesn't matter how often you cleanse your face, you can still wipe off a fresh layer of dirt a few hours later.
