A good introduction to the world of CCR

...Creedence Gold is a good introduction to the world of Creedence Clearwater Revival. A band dominated by the Fogerty brothers, had huge success in the 70’s and is considered a landmark in 70’s music. This CD includes 8 of their biggest hits, such as Proud Mary Bad moon rising and the Midnight Special. It also includes two of the best covers ever, I heard it through the Grapevine and Suzie Q. Although, big in length the passion and artistic ingenuity of these two, leave every listener satisfied from the quality. In whole, this album is a MUST have, without any doubt. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to listen to something with quality. Also the fact that this is an almost 30 years album shows the quality I’m talking about....

John Elder sets out to find the truth

Advantages: Good acting by co-stars, lovely scenery
Disadvantages: Very average performance by J. Wayne

...With our John Wayne film season continuing the next offering I had to sit through was The Sons of Katie Elder. Hubby says that this is this third favourite John Wayne film so I was expecting quite a lot from it but sadly I was a bit let down. The film see John Wayne playing the role of John Elder. The eldest of 4 brothers. Three of the brothers have met up at the train station in Clearwater to pay their respects at their mothers funeral but the eldest being John is not there. As the funeral is coming to an end we see John is watching from afar and later he meets up with his brothers at their late mothers home. After a lot of banter and petty arguing they all decide that they will go into town to get their mothers debts and things sorted out. They all head into Clearwater town hoping to come away with some money as their mother...

Orlando declining

Advantages: Plenty to do and great theme parks
Disadvantages: Low standards

...My experiences of Orlando have changed my views during the past 20 years. My first visit was in 1987 and I couldn't fault it. However, I have returned several times and each time I notice it declining. The family restaurants that I once enjoyed have become dull and have reached poor quality. To enjoy a decent meal you have to visit the more upmarket restaurants which works out expensive. The atmosphere and appearance seems dull and dirty not at all as I remember on previous visits. My advice is to stay at one of the beach resorts such as St Pete's or Clearwater which remain just as beautiful as ever. I found by staying away from Orlando itself I managed to spread my sightseeing further afield. For instance a trip to Melbourne beach (about an hour's drive from Orlando) made a change too. Disadvantages: Some glaring omissions

...glaring omissions. Most notably, the Creedence Clearwater Revival tracks are nowhere to be found. Maybe they couldnt secure the license for them, but it would have rounded off the album nicely. Ending with Townes Van Zandt "Dead Flowers", this album really does have it all, heart-pulling country, smooth grooves (Logjammin') and rock classics (those Gipsy Kings). Highyl recommended, not just to fans of the film (otherwise known as people who have seen it!) but for anyone who likes their music. Enjoy!...

Naturally, being a US 'virgin' I was intrigued by the sign which plastered "Going Place, for 30% less" and so my girlfriend and I booked 10 days in Florida, staying on the beach for a week (Clearwater) and then travelling up to the Theme Parks in Orlando. The staff at our local branch were very helpful, if a little over enthusiastic, and had all appeared to have visited, travelled or stayed in the actual beds we were to be sleeping in at some time in their lives, cue "you must do this, you must do that, you'll love it, I loved it, my nan had a great time, you can't leave this out, you can't leave that out etc etc etc". Review of Going Places

Don't forget Whistler in the summertime.

Advantages: Excellent resturants, outdoor activities
Disadvantages: A bit busy in the village

...Summary Whistler is a purpose built resort for having fun, lots of summer activities are avaliable in August and the hotels are of a good quality. Resturants are sparse, but the quality is very good. I highly recommend the 'Araxi', but if you are on a budget 'The Spaghetti factory' is the place for you. Just remmber to book either before you go. General information I had heard about Whistler as a ski resort, so when my wife and I where planning our honeymoon to Canada in the summer we missed out Whistler. However our travel agent said our journey from Clearwater to Vancouver would be a killer so we should stop off at Whistler. We agreed and I think we had the best two days of the hoilday here. Playing on my car CD tonite

...I bought the Jethro Tull ‘Original Masters’ CD (single CD) just before Xmas’00 and it has been a regular feature on my car CD multiplayer ever since in between Lauren Hill, David Gray and Coldplay. It can be picked up for less than a tenner from HMV or FreeServe Audiostreet (postage free). Bit of a blast from the past you might say. As I was a JT fan as a very young teenager – no really I was. I had a strange but 70’s unashamedly eclectic taste for JT, T-Rex, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Genesis, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Jeffersons Aeroplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Lindisfarne, Joni Mitchell…..oh yes and Slade and Mungo Jerry would you beleieve…..it all comes rushing back like a seventies ‘technicolor replay’...
