...Clifton Park museum is located on the fringe of Rotherham town centre. The museum is housed in Clifton House, a Grade 11 listed building dating from 1793. This house was designed by John Carr, a prominent architect of that time and it was the family home of the Walker family. The original occupier was Joshua Walker and his wife. Joshua's father had made his fortune in the local steel industry. Following Joshua's death this house was passed through various generations of his family and remained in their possession for almost 200 years. Clifton House stood in 70 acres of grounds and the majority of this land came into the ownership of Rotherham Borough Council in 1891, who opened up this area as a public recreation area called Clifton Park. Clifton Arms Hotel

Advantages: The Best Hotel in Lytham St Annes.
Disadvantages: Whoa! is it pricey!

...This Hotel is in the prime position in Lytham. It faces the 2 or so miles of Lytham Green. There are scenic views of the Welsh hills and the Pennines in the distance and views of the Ribble Estuary. Close by is the famous windmill. The hotel takes its name from the Clifton family. They were the main landowners in the area. There are many references to the Clifton family locally. Their family seat was Lytham Hall. This is open to the public on occasion. It is now owned by an insurance company. (AXA) The Clifton Arms Hotel was first erected on Clifton Street, in the space that is now Park Street, on or around 1794. This was apparently a coaching inn. A SUPERB TRIBUTE TO A GREAT MAN

Advantages: A Lasting Tribute to a Great British Engineer. A National Landmark. Beautiful Setting.
Disadvantages: That I do not Live Closer to it!

...with us from Poland for the summer, a couple of Sundays ago, in late August, we decided to drive down to Bristol and show her the ss Great Britain and of course the Clifton Suspension Bridge. I also wanted to see the Brunel 200 exhibition in the maritime Centre building, which I believe finishes in October. THE IDEA IS HATCHED When Brunel launched the Great Britain from its current home, in July 1843, the Avon Gorge was without a bridge, although in a sense it had already been in the "planning stage" since 1754. A wine trader by the name of William Vick, who had made his fortune in Bristol, died in that year, leaving £1000 in trust, intending that when it had grown to £10,000 it would fund a stone bridge, crossing the Avon Gorge from Clifton Down to Leigh Woods. The mystery is quite why Mr Vicks should want to see such crossing built...

Review of Clifton Suspension Bridge

Three stars for two star service

Advantages: Location, comfortable bed
Disadvantages: Over priced, needs a repaint, breakfast could be better

...I love Bristol, I like its surrounding countryside, I like the people, the atmosphere at night in the city centre, the diverse range of restaurants & pubs, the attractions & the decent climate. The company I work for are based in Bristol & for me it means a regular trip there every two to three months staying in a different hotel & eating out in different restaurants. Last week I stayed there just for one night at the Victoria Square Hotel owned by Best Western in the Clifton area of Bristol. The area is rather nice with its plush Georgian style homes with a lovely park overlooked by the hotel. You are just a short walking distance away from many restaurants & pubs. Clifton Campus oh no!

Advantages: Good teaching, good mix of courses
Disadvantages: clifton campus needs a facelift

...I spent three years based at Nottingham Trent clifton campus site studying a degree in Communication Studies. Now the course was ok, I particularly enjoyed certain subjects, however the actual campus was appalling. This 1991-1994 so maybe things have changed a little now, but everything was so old and dated like the library and the refectory. The city site seemed to get all the refubishment and trendy redecoration and poor old Clifton remained stuck in the eighties! Most of the teaching at the UNI was fine, there was the odd stoned lecturer on a monday morning but genearlly the teachers were enlightening, enthusiastic and very helpful. I enjoyed my time at Nottingham, the city is great for students, however I wouldn't rush back to do an MA there....

...Jurys clifton Ford Hotel is a good 4* hotel. Part of the Jurysdoyle group. There is a website which has some information about the hotel at www.jurysdoyle.com. I stayed there in an Executive room for 4 days whilst in London on Business. The hotel was booked through an online discounter (laterooms.com). I managed to obtain an executive room and pay for a standard at a discounted £80 per night for Bed & Breakfast. The Staff were professional and helpful. Perhaps a little too professional and not warm enough.All of the public areas are furnished to a high standard and spotless The Room was a large well equipped room with excellent furniture, spotlesssly clean and well decorated. I am often a bit reluctant at eating out in chain restaurants, but I went to this Zizzi's and enjoyed it so much I went back again! **The Food** The menu has an extensive range of dishes to suit everyone?s taste- main courses include: 13 pasta dishes 3 risottos 12 pizza's 2 calzone's 6 salads. There is a good range of both vegetarian and meat/poultry and fish dishes. My favourite is the Calzone Clarissa with Aubergine, red pepper, olives, goats cheese, rocket, pine nuts, tomato and mozzerella. It is so good and really filling too! There are 6 'nibble' dishes and 6 starters available. The nibbles range from olives to a selection of Italian breads and cheese. The starters are more filing and are particularly mouth watering...
