It is important to mention though that the flash is noisy on occasion because it comprises a zoom flash head that makes a bit if a buzz every time you use it. In conclusion I would say this is a petty advanced flash unit that gives excellent results. It might be a bit too confusing if you're as beginner and it's not exactly on the cheap side. However, for those wanting to move up a grade, this flash should light up the way. ...This is a good quality product that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most products of this type, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. It's a great device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. After using this product for a few months I have not so far come up against any reliability issues but only time will tell. I therefore would recommend the product. Blinding performance

Advantages: Very powerful and flexible advanced users flash gun, easy full-auto use.

...and a large number of settings that can be changed and most require reference to a manual to decode the meaning. The LCD only allows you to numerically set functions (such as "C.Fn 01 = 1 or 0" for custom function 01 = on or off). You have to refer to the manual to find out what each function does. Basic settings are easy enough though and you can just clip it on a camera and turn it on and it will work in full E-TTL II auto mode. Depending on the type of body used, you might find that most flash functions can be commanded from the body, such as Flash Exposure Compensation, Flash Exposure Lock (similar to normal AE Lock) and 1st/2nd Curtain flash. For bodies that don't have such commands, the 580EX can do all this via the control dial and LCD. The FEL feature in particular can be useful as it can be triggered by the AEL button on the body...
