Clowning around

...Clown' is a picture book ? that and only that, as it consists solely of pictures without text. It tells the story of a clown that is dumped in a dustbin along with other unwanted toys. Managing to escape, he is befriended by a little girl, but her mother is less than impressed when she takes him home. She throws him out of the window and he is chased by a dog. Things seem to be going from bad to worse when the dog's thug of an owner tosses him right up into the air. He is in luck, however, as he flies through the window of a poverty-stricken family. After helping the daughter with the chores, he takes her out with her baby brother in a pram to the dustbin where they retrieve the rest of the toys. The Clown

Advantages: Great for fans of the TV show
Disadvantages: None

...The clown is a book which has been written based on the children's television show Balamory. The cover of the book is green and has a circle at the bottom with a picture of a clown in and above this is a picture showing the hoses along the sea front and the title in coloured bubble lettering. The back cover of the book is also green and has a square which has colourful balloons at the top and then a paragraph telling us about the book. This is the paperback edition of the book I am reviewing. The story starts with Miss Hoolie introducing herself and telling us that today is a work day and everyone is busy going to work and school. She then goes to her cupboard where she finds a makeup box. She says that this is just what Giggles the clown needs and he is coming to the nursery today. CLOWNing around!!

Advantages: Great pictures that will appeal to young fans of the TV show...
Disadvantages: None really..

...One pastime that my young nephew really enjoys is reading his extensive collection of books. Because of this, we often buy him books or magazines to encourage him to read as much as possible. He has recently started watching the children?s television programme ?Balamory? and seems to enjoy the short programme and its array of colourful (yet cheesy) characters. For this reason, I snapped up a small selection of second-hand books from the ?Balamory? television series when the opportunity presented itself at a car boot sale I attended recently.
