Coconut Bay Resort & Spa (And NOW Photos: 19/2/08)

Advantages: Close to the airport for transfers, Great Food.
Disadvantages: Lots of seaweed gets washed up on the beach.

...Flight Out: I used Virgin Atlantic who fly out here. The flying time is 8 hours but, because of the time difference, it was the equivilent to a 4 hour flight (great). Of course this means the opposite coming back. Its 8 hours flying but you have to add 4 hours onto the time. Not so good Landed: The resort is within a 10 minute drive of the airport. Once there, the drive with the coconut palm trees gives you the clues that you've well and truely arrived. All in: The hotel is fully-inclusive so all the food (even in the 2 specialist food restaurants) is all in, as are MOST drinks. If you want a bottle of 'champers' with a meal, this is extra. ...We booked a Sala Pool Villa for our 10 day honeymoon stay at the end of August 2006 and it was definitely the best hotel we've ever stayed at. From our arrival to departure our visit was totally hassle free and couldnt have been more enjoyable. The service given by the staff was amazing, they couldnt do more for us even if they tried. On arrival i was given a gorgeous bouquet of red roses and even though we were very early we were taken straight to our villa. What can i say but wow, the pictures do not do it justice. The bed was scattered with red roses petals and there was a bottle of sparkling wine and some chocolates waiting for us too. ...I have been to this resort twice, the first to get married and the second just to see if our recollection of the place lived up to the memories of the first time. Both times I have to say were excellent. The staff are very helpful and attentive but not in a pushy way. The rooms vary according to the grade you have booked, the first time we had a garden view Jacuzzi room which was fabulous the second time we had an ocean view room which was great except we missed the Jacuzzi. The beach is down some steps and across a small road and is Ok! It is a sandy beach but sometimes the waves and undertow can be a bit strong. The daily spa treatment is amazing. ...Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa is located approximately 60 minutes drive from Dubai International Airport. Transfers can be organised with your tour operator, but will be in two stages. The first stage is a transfer from the airport down the highway and into the desert and onto the perimeter fence of the resort - this should take no more than 45-50 minutes. Once at the perimeter of the Al Maha estate, you will pass through security and await the arrival of the hotels jeeps, who will then transport you up to the main resort, which will usually take another 15 mins or so. Despite the transfer time, particualrly after a 7 1/2 hour flight from the UK, this was not uncomfortable or irritating like some transfers can be, so I hardly noticed the time.
