...We recently replaced our Russell Hobbs filter coffee maker as the valve that stopped the liquid coming through when the jug was removed had fallen off. We replaced it with a Morphy Richards Rapide. It certainly lives up to the rapide part of its name filtering coffee far quicker than its predecessor.It is a fast and efficient machine,easy to use and keep clean and has a permanent filter.My only gripe is that when the jug is removed there are always a couple of drips of coffee that fall onto the hot plate.It is also a little awkward to fill the resevoir with water as the opening is a little on the small side so care is needed to avoid spilling water. There is a coffee strength dial on the lid which seems to make no appreciable difference to the taste of the coffee to me....

Ideal basic coffee filter

...I bought this in a spur of the moment "i need a coffee maker and it can't wait" decision. It was the best size available as i have a kitchen with limited space i didn't want one with an espresso maker on as well, i also needed one that looked easy to clean, e.g. no fiddly parts. This machine has a strength selector on the top of the unit, although i've not noticed very much difference whether it's on strong or light, that really depends on how much coffee and water you put in. It's quick to filter and keeps the coffee hot. i generally don't leave the machine on allday to drink the same coffee. I like to make a fresh pot when i want it, so i can't comment on whether it burns it or not. The milk frother uses a whisk rather than steam to froth it, so there isn't the chance of scalding, but i did forget to turn the hot plate off...

The smell and taste: Open the jar and you are hit with a very rich and dark smell, that is unmistakenly coffee, but also has a distant smell of chocolate in my opinion. I also love the paper tops that coffe jars have and the smell that hits you when you pop them. The smell when you pour boiling water over the granules is divine, one spoon is adequate, I use two. The taste is rich, I was surprised at how much like filter coffee it tastes as I am not a great fan of instant, it is smooth and strong and leaves an aftertaste that is pleasant and decadent. Being from Witrose, you might expect that it is expensive, but in fact this 227g bag costs no more than £2.09, and having tried it several times, I'm willing to pay much more than that for it. As you see in the picture, it comes in a black bag and it has a white sticky tab by which you can recluse the bag after you use it. As is the case with other kinds of coffee, once opened, the bag can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
