quick filter coffee
Review of Filter Coffee Maker by
boanerges
Advantages: quick, efficient
Disadvantages: drips when jug removed
...We recently replaced our Russell Hobbs filter coffee maker as the valve that stopped the liquid coming through when the jug was removed had fallen off. We replaced it with a Morphy Richards Rapide. It certainly lives up to the rapide part of its name filtering coffee far quicker than its predecessor. It is a fast and efficient machine, easy to use and keep clean and has a permanent filter. My only gripe is that when the jug is removed there are always a couple of drips of coffee that fall onto the hot plate. It is also a little awkward to fill the resevoir with water as the opening is a little on the small side so care is needed to avoid spilling water. There is a coffee strength dial on the lid which seems to make no appreciable difference to the taste of the coffee to me....

Join me for a coffee
Review of Rombout Coffee Filters by
SueMagee
Advantages: A perfect cup of filter coffee for when you're on your own.
Disadvantages: A little on the expensive side!
...Sip.
When I worked for a living I was permanently afloat on a lake of strong black coffee. There was always a steaming cup of Blend 37 on my desk and a spare jar in the cupboard in case I ran out. Looking back I must have spent years of my life on a permanent caffeine high.
Sip.
When work gave me up (yes; that was the way it happened) I found that I could no longer cope with the ridiculous amounts of caffeine that I’d been used to drinking. At about the same time Nescafe changed the blend of Blend 37 and frankly I thought it tasted disgusting, so for quite a while I gave up coffee altogether. No other instant came close to the original taste of Blend 37 and it seemed such a waste to make a pot when all that I wanted was one cup of perfectly brewed filter coffee. Then I rediscovered Rombouts Individual Filter Coffees and I...

Getting steamed up about good coffee!
Review of Hinari CC905 Cafe Continental 2 in 1 Espresso/Cappuccino and Filter Coffee Maker Black by
weetoon
Advantages: A very eye-catching, modern design producing great coffee
Disadvantages: Annoying technical problems
...When the little coffee maker my husband had had for many years finally died on us, we experienced unexpected difficulties in finding a suitable replacement. One machine, bought at the local supermarket, was so badly put together that the panel containing the controls was coming off before we even got to use it. Having returned this, we then proceeded to buy another from our local Woolworth's, their own brand. Well, that one was cheap... Cheap in price and unfortunately quality and the jug, made of very thin glass, smashed the first time we washed it.
After this run of bad luck, when our new Hinari machine arrived (mail order), we were delighted when we took it out of the box. It looked great! This being an espresso/cappuccino and filter coffee maker, it was bigger than what we had previously (about 22cmx43cm). As worktop...

Comet's cheap n cheerful coffee pot
Review of Filter Coffee Maker by
debbie_marway
Advantages: Makes your house smell wonderful
Disadvantages: Does nothing for your waistline
...My friend was loosing weight and I was curious how she was doing it. I asked her what the secret was and she told me it was her coffee pot. She claims that when she’s hungry, instead of eating, she grabs a coffee, as it’s always on hand and always hot. This stops her reaching for cakes and crisps as it fills her up and gives her an energy spurt.
As I am always on a diet and constantly loosing the battle, I thought I would invest in one and see if its helps.
I went to Comet and purchased the Proline Filter Coffee Maker. It was a bargain at £7.99.
It’s nothing special; nothing flash, it doesn’t come with whistles and bells. There are two colour options, black and white but the best bit is that the filter never needs replacing. All you do is wash it between uses, couldn’t be easier.
Six scoops of medium roast are enough...

I Like Mine Strong, Thick And Black ...
Review of Hinari Cafe Continental Filter Coffee Maker by
jo68
Advantages: Stylish, easy to use, cheap
Disadvantages: Coffee could be a little hotter for milk takers ?
...And with this Hinari Filter Coffee Maker, I can make my coffee exactly like that.
I have recently returned from Spain and over there they make proper coffee. None of this instant stuff. They make the sort that you can almost stand your spoon upright in. Of course, most of it is espresso, but unfortunately, I no longer have an espresso machine and instead have to make do with a filter coffee maker. Anyway, the coffee in Spain gave me a taste for " proper " coffee and so on my return, I looked towards the corner of the kitchen where my coffee maker lives, and smiled lovingly at it. Then I retrieved a brand new packet of Columbian ground coffee out of the cupboard, and away I went !
Our original filter coffee maker was received as a wedding present almost 9 years ago. I can't believe that I've been married for almost 9 years, but I...

Fancy a coffee old bean
Review of Whittard's Coffee Beans by
madamois_elle
Advantages: Freshly ground, available in small quantities
Disadvantages: A bit more expensive than other coffees
...steadily been working my way through.
I love to browse and read the labels that often give fanciful descriptions of the flavour characteristics of each blend and the areas in which they are grown. Generally you find that the staff is very knowledgeable about the various blends and can help you to make up your mind.
Once you have chosen the variety you want, and decided on the weight you require, an assistant weighs your beans and asks how you want them ground. You can have them medium ground (for cafetieres), medium-fine (for expresso machines), fine (for filter machines) and, amusingly, “pulverised”, for Turkish coffee.
The beans are then poured into the grinder and ground freshly for you, before being packed into a silver foil bag and hand labelled.
The aroma in the store at this point is divine, and even though I...

COFFEE STAINED WORKTOPS.
Review of Moulinex Solea Coffee Maker by
thingywhatsit
Advantages: It was the right colour for my kitchen.
Disadvantages: Spills everywhere.
...day). It was a pretty mean looking machine and I was proud of my acquisition.
Coming with a sealed plug, it was almost ready for up and away, but I have this thing that new coffee makers should be first washed out and having done this, I was ready for impressing people.
I placed the filter into its little slots which was easy. I was not sure about strength although I piled in a couple of spoonfuls of coffee, filled up the container with water, and “Voila”. I, like the perfect hostess, waited for my guests to settle in and listened to the hissing sound of the coffee maker with glee.
The jug that comes with it is pretty neat and has a lid that you lift to fill. Simple. It holds about 7 cups of coffee (smallish ones) and is made of a tough Pyrex kind of material. Another thing I like here in France is the availability of extra jugs...
