Lovely Large Coffee Shop

Advantages: Free Parking, Hot and Cold affordable food, No expense spared in furnishings, great atmosphere

...Brambles is a beautiful setting for a coffee shop on the banks of the River Wear with affordable hot and cold food. You could have lunch/dinner or snacks here and the food has been tremendous everytime we have visited. The staff are very polite and I think it holds about 100 inside (in a lovely cosy atmosphere) and also around 50-60 outside in a large outdoor seating area. In summer it becomes so busy that they put up a 50 seater marquee also which provides extra shade and shelter whilst eating your scones or sandwiches. I can highly recommend the paninis though, and my partner loves the fact that everything is locally produced and homecooked. If you are ever in the North East Brambles Coffee Shop is a great way to relax after looking round the adjoining Poplar Tree Garden Centre....

Gripes of a Shop Assistant

...this is still available. Head Office doesn't reply to paperwork sent to them unless you constantly chase it up. I had an road accident. on 2 years ago, and returned to work in two months ago. My Solicitors have written to the Head Office in Enfield several times, and unless I phone Enfield up to chase it, they don't do anything about it. For example, I am trying to claim my lost wages from the other party, and Gregg's had the request form (signed by me) sitting on the wages/personel managers desk for a good few weeks, without it being dealt with. I hate this job, because although your shop colleagues treat you okay you don't feel appreciated by the management - who just want you to work like a robot. Confessions of a Shop Assistant

Advantages: You meet nice people, lots of time to think, pretty girls in short sportswear, these kind of jobs are very easy to get, management don't usually have the intelligance to question it when you decide to pull a sickie.
Disadvantages: Boring, soul-destroying, mind-numbing work, stupid customers, ugly women in short sportswear, everyone else has pulled a sickie too, so you have to go in anyway.

...If you're looking for a coffee, then Bill's Coffee Shop is an odd place to look. It's a bar, for heaven's sake, so why they call it a "coffee shop" beats me. Perhaps they do sell coffee, but I've never seen anyone drinking the stuff there. The grandly named Clinton Plaza is a relatively new, smallish, maze of open bars, shops, and a little bit of sleaze too. It's right on Sukhumvit Road, between Sois 13 and 15. If you're staying in the Manhattan Hotel (recommended), then it's within very easy crawling distance home. Although they periodically have people on the street handing out maps of Clinton Plaza - nice graphics but a little bit rude - it's easy to find Bill's, as it's right at the front on the corner. A European Starbucks! (I'd never heard of them!). For a coffee specialist what surprised me most was the limited range of coffee for sale. Basically there were two options Mild or full strength...available as grounds for use in filter machines or instant. Ground coffee was £2.29 for full strength (250g)the mild being a couple of pence cheaper! Instant cost £1.80 (100g)full strength,again mild was a couple of pence cheaper! I opted for one of each in the full strength. So I got out my faithful mastercard and submitted my order.
